The Alpha Slipped Inside The Wrong Sister novel Chapter 45

Evie’s pov

As they all cheered and laughed I took a slow step back. My throat burned. I took another step backward and then another until I’m almost in the shadows.

No one noticed. No one noticed the girl quietly breaking. No one noticed the girl who was now carrying a life inside her.

My lungs burned and my throat was slowly closing up as I fought off tears. I turned around swiftly before anyone could look at me too closely and notice. I walked slow at first, trying to seem normal then faster until my feet got me back inside the house.

My trembling fingers were trying to grasp for anything to hold on to as I head for the kitchen. This can’t be happening right now. It can’t be true.

‘It’s true Evie,’ Serena whispers.

‘You should’ve told me!’ I growled. My vision was blurry, my breathing raspy. My heart slams violently against my ribs, each beat loud and frightening.

Pregnant.

The word echoed over and over inside my skull, pounding hard and making me all the more woozy.

Pregnant.

With Ryan’s baby.

My fingers brush against my stomach unconsciously. ‘You were not ready to know,’ Serena says softly.

‘And right now was the perfect time?’ I asked sarcastically and she remains quiet.

I reach the kitchen and grip the edge of the countertop, my fingers trembling so badly the marble felt like it was about to crumble under the pressure.

Water.

I needed water.

I stumbled to the sink and grabbed a glass, nearly dropping it as I turned on the tap. The rushing sound fills the silence. It was sharp and the sound irritated me. I let out a hiss and gritted my teeth. My hands shake as I lift the glass to my lips and gulp down everything in one go.

The cold water slide down my throat but did nothing to ease my panic. My stomach twist violently and for a second I thought I’d hurl into the sink. I placed the empty glass down, glared at it and immediately filled it again.

I gulp it like I hadn’t had water in days.

Calm down. Calm the fuck down Evie. You can’t panic. You can’t afford to panic now.

The sound of footsteps coming closer froze me in place, making my heart drop in my stomach. My entire body went rigid. I didn’t need to turn to know it was Alpha Gavin. His power reeked as he draws near.

He was coming here…..

Now….

My heart stopped when a thought pushes into my mind. He’s an Alpha. Alphas can smell everything. My fingers tightened around the glass so hard I thought it might shatter.

Did he know?

Can he smell it?

Can he smell the baby?

Can he smell Ryan seed inside me?

I turned around slowly when I hear him closer. Gavin stands at the kitchen entrance, his large frame filling the doorway. His dark eyes immediately found mine. “You left abruptly,” he pointed out and panic explodes inside me. He knows.

He knows doesn’t he?

I begin to sweat as I lower my gaze quickly, staring at the counter, unable to breathe. “I just needed some water, I said which wasn’t a complete lie. “I was parched.”

Silence stretches between us before he walks closer and my heart pounds. I turn around quickly and fill that empty glass once more, goosebumps of terror raising on my skin. I downed it in one go, nearly choking. I coughed, placing the glass on the countertop.

Each step he takes feels like a countdown to some kind of bad news. I braced myself as my head spins. I was certain he knew. If Quincy could smell it, he could too.

“I won’t tell him,” Gavin suddenly utters. It wasn’t rough or soft, but firm.

My head snapped up and I whirl around to stare at him, my heart slamming violently.

He knew.

He knew I was pregnant. How long had he known?

My throat tightened painfully. “I…” My voice broke. “I don’t understand-

“I know you’re pregnant Evie,” he said softer now, as if careful. The man who they said was the most ruthless alpha seems soft in this very moment as his eyes swirl with knowing and understanding.

Tears burned my eyes instantly, but I forced them back. “I won’t tell Ryan,” Gavin repeated. “This I promise you.’

Ryan’s name nearly shattered me. My fated mate. The one who rejected me. The one who wanted me dead. The one who put this life inside me. My fingers trembled as they slowly moved to my stomach again.

“I can smell it,” Gavin continued quietly. “It’s faint, still growing. But it’s there,”

Of course he could. He was an Alpha. His senses were stronger and faster. He was more powerful than any of us. Fear crept up my spine.

If he wasn’t going to tell Ryan, then what happens to my position in the pack now? Would he still accept me or throw me out? I was now going to be a liability. One I was pushing to never be again.

“What……what happens now? Must I leave?” I whispered.

One of his brows raised in confusion and shock. “Leave? We take care of our own in this pack Evie. Nothing happens to you.”
