Evie’s pov
She stalks my way and lets out a quiet scoff. I straighten, thinking she was about to come towards me but she turns to the sink and grabs a glass.
As the water fills the glass, Lisa suddenly utters softly.” Do you honestly believe a word he just said?” Her voice was fake sweet. Mocking me.
I frowned a little, still shaken, still trembling from the earlier panic. “Believe…what?”
She watches the water rise instead of looking at me and then shuts the faucet. “That he cares enough to protect you.” Her words were meant to break me and have my thoughts rage inside my head but I’ve grown stronger now. I won’t break for any little thing.
So I said nothing and leaned against the counter. I had more pressing matters to deal with than an obsessed jealous teenager.
But then my quietness must have irked her even more because Lisa let out a quiet laugh, shaking her head. “You must be more naïve than I thought. The dumbest bitch I know.”
My fingers curled slightly at my sides as Serena stirs.
“He doesn’t care about you,” she continues bluntly as if her words would strike me down. “You’re useful. That’s it, ” she shrugs.
Her words now intrigue me. I straightened. “Useful?”.
Her lips curled into a smirk as she turns to face me fully now. Her eyes, they were so pretty but peers into my soul with a nasty glare.
“You’re a white wolf Evie,” The way she said it made it sound like I was some kind of disease. “Do you know how rare your kind is? How powerful you’re supposed to be?”she continued. “Do you know how much knowledge your existence alone could give him?”
My brows draw into a furrow. What was she getting at? I knew she was trying to stir trouble because of her jealousy but I can’t help but be intrigued to know what she’d say more.
“Spit it out Lisa,” I grumble and she rolls her eyes, letting out a breath.
“He’s an Alpha,” she said dryly as if that alone explains everything. “Alphas seek power. Advantage. Control. And you….” her eyes swept over me slowly in disgust and pity.” Are nothing more than just an opportunity.”
Her words slipped under my skin a little. The fear of just being nothing more than someone who they can toss out.
“He’s studying you,” she added. “Watching you. Protecting you. Not because he cares… but because he wants to understand what you are,” she giggled dryly.
“No one knows much about white wolves,” she went on. “What they can do. How strong they can become. What makes them……different,” She leaned slightly against the counter. “You’re a mystery Evie. And he loves a good mystery.”
Serena growled softly inside me.
Lisa’s eyes flickered briefly to my stomach. “And once he figures you out,” she continued, her voice lowering now a lot crueler. ” Once you’re no longer useful…” She shrugged. “You’ll be nothing. You’ll be thrown out of the pack

like the stray you are.”
I would’ve believed her words if I hadn’t seen that flicker of hope in her eyes before she curtains it away. Hope. that I would believe her words. Hope that her words had landed blow after blow.
I couldn’t let her be satisfied.
I take a step toward her and watch her eyes widen before she conceals her shock. “Lisa don’t you find yourself to be a little childish?”
Seeing that I was getting to her, I continue.” Stop trying to hurt every female alpha Gavin speaks to. That won’! make him see you the way you want him to Lisa.”
I watch her hands fists at her sides and see her wolf flicker in her eyes. She leans closer to me as if she was about to let out a secret and then utters coldly. “Like the way Alpha Ryan didn’t see you?”
Serena snarled low and furious inside me, but I stayed still and stayed silent even though those words hit a small place in my heart I thought I shielded. But it seems Lisa caught the brief vulnerability because she smiles faintly, seeming to be satisfied with the damage she’d done. Even though it was a little.
She pushes off the counter and walked past me, her shoulder bumping mine deliberately. “Don’t say I didn’t warn you,” she said sneers as she walked out, leaving me with thoughts I wished never consumed me.
Gavin’s pov
I forced my expression into a neutral one as I walk back outside. Quincy was now out of the pool and in Jonah’s arms while the others were in the pool. The second she spots me, her eyes narrowed.
She pulls away from Jonah and struts over to me with him hot on her heels like a fucking puppy. I can’t help but cringe. I’d have to live the rest of my life seeing these two together. Though I was happy for them, I was still shocked they were fated.
My best friend and sister? Who would’ve thought?
“What did you tell her?” Quincy asked immediately when she’s before me. Straight to the point like always.
I glance back at the house briefly before turning back to her. “She’s pregnant,” I said calmly. Quincy inhaled sharply and Jonah stiffens beside her, his arm tightening protectively around her shoulders.
“I knew something was off with her scent earlier,” Quincy breathed faintly. She didn’t want the others to hear. “I told her to go check the pack doctor to confirm. Did she look scared?” She asked worriedly.
“She’s terrified,” I nodded. “She thinks she’ll be cast out.”
Quincy frowned instantly. “She won’t be,”
“No,” I agreed. “Of course not.”
Not while I live. Not when she was now part of my pack. Not while she carried a child inside my territory. My pack protects our own.
Silence settled between us for a moment. But then Quincy’s eyes shifted into one of hesitation. I could tell she wanted to say something.
My eyes narrowed slightly. “What?” I asked flatly.
She swallowed. “There’s something else I wanted to ask you brother.”
