Ryan’s pov
*after the phone call*

“Who were you talking to?” Mother questions as she enters my room and closes the door behind her. I had just ended the call with alpha Gavin abruptly. I had been calling all the neighboring packs to ask about Evie. She must be somewhere…..
“None of your concern,” I snarled as I stood up and pointed at my door. “Get the fuck out!” I snapped.
Mother looks surprised. “You would kick your mother out of your room this way!?”
My wolf stirs. “No mother of mine would make me suffer the way you and father have made me. You are no mother of mine!”
Her eyes narrowed, her back straightening. “You basically promised your father war for a girl-
“Not just a girl,” I cut in sharply, seething inwardly. “My mate. My mate goddammit! Give her back to me where ever you two have her!”
“Your mate is Kimberly! You’ve claimed her! You two are going to wed soon!” She’s argues back with irritation.
My wolf surged forward violently. “She’s not my mate! Never been my mate! Will never be my mate! I’m tired of fucking playing you and father’s games! Give me Evie or I will let the pack crumble!”
My nails dig into my palms as I fight for control of my wolf. But that little control…..it was slipping. The room suddenly felt too tiny, too damn suffocating as I felt like the walls were closing in, pressing against my damn sanity. Well, the bit I had left that is.
Mother takes a step back. She must have smelt it. The sudden dangerous shift within me. Her eyes widened slightly, not with fear for me but fear of me.
“You are losing yourself because of this girl,” she said, her voice trembling as she inched closer to the door.
My lip curled into a snarl. “No,” I growled. “You and father made me lose myself!”
“We are trying to protect you!” She retorts, her eyes widening in shock as she watches me.
My bones ached and my skin burned as my wolf slams against the cage inside me, furious, desperate and ready to tear through flesh and bone just to get free. Mother sees it. She sees the exact moment my control slips from my
grasp.
“Get out!” I roared because even though they’ve hurt me in ways I didn’t think they’d ever, I didn’t want to rip through her skin and make her bleed on the floor.
She didn’t say another word, whips around quickly and rush out of the room. The door slams behind her, loud.
I stood there staring at the closed door, shaking as my breathing became uneven and animalistic. My vision flickered, sharpening…… Everything became sharply clear now.
Her rushing footsteps. Her racing heartbeat. The scent of her fear clinging to her.
Good.
Let her be afraid. Let them both fear me.

Stephie’s pov
I shoved the door open to the office without knocking. Ryker sits behind the desk, completely oblivious to everything as he reviews the documents on the table calmly.
I slammed the door shut behind me, exhaling sharply through my nose. “Our son has become unhinged and lost control of his wolf back in the room. Ryker, we must do something quick before he actually does wage war on this pack.”
Ryker doesn’t look up yet, only flips the page like I had not said a word. For a moment I considered repeating myself but he replied before I could.” He won’t do anything.”
Ryker leans back slowly in his chair and stares at my confused expression as I let out a breath. “You did not see how he lost control back there Ryker! He is very serious. I’ve never seen him look at me with such hatred. I was an enemy in his eyes.”
I pause and the room goes still for a few beating moments.
Then I whisper. “He was on the phone before I entered his room. He’s looking for her Ryker. It’s only a matter of time until he finds her if that bastard Gavin didn’t kill her like we thought he would.”
Ryker stiffens before he speaks again, this time his voice firm and cold. “I told you I have a plan Stephie,” he interlocked his fingers under his chin. “Calm down, our son will not hurt you or get that useless girl back.”
I frowned. “A plan? What plan is that Ryker? He has refused to let that poor girl Kimberly into his room. He is rejecting the prophecy. He-
“He will no longer remember Evie,” Ryker stands up. “He will no longer remember that there was even an Evie here to begin with.”
My frown deepens, unsure of how he’d accomplish something like this. “What do you mean Ryker?” I asked slowly.
Ryker stepped around the desk, his movements calm and nonchalant. “I have already sent word,” he said. “She will arrive tonight before midnight.”
A bitter chill runs down my spine. “She?” I repeated.
His eyes held mine. “The witch. The one who gave the prophecy isn’t alive anymore but her daughter will do.”
My breath caught. For a moment, I could only stare at him as I wonder if he was serious or not. “You’re serious?” 1 whispered. We’ve been forbidden to use the witches for magic. The one who gave us the prophecy died years back and after her death, the council revoked any wolf to interact with the witches. It was forbidden.
If they found out…..
“I have never been more serious,” he replied. My fingers curled against my arms.
“We’re not supposed to interact with them, far less invite one into our territory,” I utter to him, shifting on my feet. “The council will-
