Stephie’s pov

The wait for the witch was unbearable and uneasy. It was like every second stretches with tension and somehow the air tightens thinner.

Ryker stood near the window, his hands clasped behind his back as he stared into the darkening territory beyond. The fading sunlight painted his face in a warm golden glow that makes him look less like the feared alpha and more like a father. It had softened his features drastically.

I remained near the desk, my arms on the wooden surface as my ears strain for any sound of incoming footsteps.

The witch had rescheduled the time for evening. Six p.in to be exact. It was now 5:57 pm and we were counting down the minutes in our heads.

Her presence was already here. Cold. Powerful. The witches always had a stench to them.

She took her time walking towards the office and I can hear our warriors close beside her. There was no sense of fear coating her being and as she drew closer I notice Ryker stiffen.

Three slow taps against the door follows. Ryker spoke up, his voice hard and firm. “Enter.”

The door opens slowly and the first thing I feel is a the bask of cold. Ryker turns around as the small woman is ushered in by the warriors.

She was smaller than I thought she’d be with bright red hair spilling over her shoulders in waves. She was clothed in a dark purple dress so long that it brushes the flooring as she walks. It clashes prettily against her pale skin and clashes even more beautifully with her amber eyes.

She looked so much like Ester. Her mother and the woman who told us about the prophecy years ago.

The warriors behind her closed the door quietly and remain outside. The young woman did not bow, she did not even greet us. She simply just stood there, staring at Ryker and I. Something that should’ve ticked us but didn’t. We needed her help.

“You summoned me Alpha,” she said. Her voice was soft yet her eyes were cold.

Ryker straightens and gestures toward the chair across from his desk.” Yes, please have a sit.”

The young woman did not sit. Instead, she remains standing, waiting. Almost impatiently. Ryker didn’t seem bothered by her coldness.

“Do you by chance can tell a prophecy?” He questions, clearly intrigued. The woman stiffens and replies with no emotion in her voice. “It’s rare for a witch to possess that kind of power. Only my mother could do it. 1 unfortunately didn’t get the gift. I can’t see someone’s future or past. There are no more witches who possess the power to.”

Ryker frowns, “Can you erase someone’s memories? I’ve heard you could. That’s why I summoned you here

The woman’s eyes flicker with question, “I do. But it depends.”

Ryker’s eyes harden then. “I want you to erase someone from my son’s memory,” he said bluntly, going straight to the point.

The witch’s amber eyes sharpen slightly with intrigue. “Who?”

Ryker didn’t hesitate to answer her question. “His fated mate.”

Silence follows quickly after his words and the witch studies him carefully. “Why do you want to play with a bond given by your moon goddess?” she seems intrigued now.

Ryker answers quickly. “Your mother once gave us a prophecy that could be his downfall. He must mate with the strongest female in this pack or the pack will crumble. His fated mate is a runt who has no wolf, She’s weak.”

The witch’s eyebrows lift slightly and Ryker continues. “We have done all that we could to save him and this pack. We’ve made him mate with the strongest female here and we’ve banished the girl from ever stepping foot here again. But he still wants to look for her and still wants her by his side.”

Ryker lets out a sharp exhale. “He will destroy himself trying to find her,” he continued. “He will destroy this pack if we don’t stop him and get him under control.”

Silence settled over us for a short moment and her gaze flicker to me briefly then right back to him. “And you want me to remove her from his memories?” She asked with a tight edge in her tone.

“Yes.” Both Ryker and I said simultaneously.

She goes quiet for a long moment and just watches us. I can see the gears in her head shifting. Perhaps weighing the pros and cons of what we are asking her to do. As the silence stretches, Ryker grows restless.

But then she spoke words that made him calm down a bit, “I can do it.”

Relief flooded my chest and I breathed out the air I didn’t know I was holding in my lungs. But the relief vanishes just as quickly when she continues. “Under one condition.”

Ryker’s eyes narrowed slightly as he stiffens in alert. “What is that condition?”

Her voice did not change. “He must never see her face again and she must never set foot in this territory ever again. You must not ever utter her name again in these halls.”

Ryker’s expression remains hard.”Explain.”

The witch stepped closer now, the ends of her dress kissing against the floor. “Memories can be buried,” she said calmly. “Sealed and locked away.”

She tilted her head slightly, her eyes narrowing. “But they are not destroyed.”

“If he sees her again,” she continues. “The seal I will place will without a doubt, weaken.”

Ryker’s jaw tightened and his hands fists at his sides. This wouldn’t be permanent, that’s what this witch was. trying to say.

“If he hears her voice…smells her scent… and even looks into her eyes…” She paused.” Those memories…they will

return.”

The words settle like stones in my stomach. There was a chance that we would go through with this and his memories of her would return once he catches a glimpse of her face.

“I can suppress those memories. I can bury them deep enough that he will forget her name. Her face. Her existence,” she continues, eyes flickering to me. “But I cannot erase the bond itself.”

Her eyes move back to Ryker who had grown uneasy about the revelation,

“He will remember everything if he sees her,” She continues. “The spell cannot be permanent,” she finished.

Ryker stared at her. “And if he never sees her again?” he asked.
