Stephie’s pov

Javon had left the room about a minute ago and headed for Ryan’s room. A few more minutes pass with us hearing the shuffles of feet rushing down the hall and then a roar rips through the house.

It shook the walls and even shook me..

Ryan. My son.

My heart dropped into my stomach. I knew what we were about to do was for the future of this pack and him and I had to endure the sound of his rage filled roars.

Another roar follows right after, louder this time. A lot angrier. Then the sound of something heavy crashing against a surface echoes behind it.

The sound of wood splintering, furniture breaking and then more snarling fills the air. I looked at Ryker who had a stoic expression on his face.

“Ryker,” I move close to him so he’d reassure me that what we are doing was okay and that it would be fine. But Ryker doesn’t stare at me, he only looks at the door. Waiting impatiently for them to drag Ryan in.

More crashes follows.

Shouting.

The Warriors yelling. “Hold him down!”

“Don’t let him shift!” another shouts.

“Restrain him!”

A sickening crack echoed through the corridor followed by a warrior’s cry of pain. I grab Ryker’s arm then, my heart pounding in my chest. “He’s fighting them off. What if they hurt him?”

Ryker did not move, he did not react, instead his eyes remain fixed on the door. “This is for his own good Stephie, ” he said coldly.

Another roar ripped through the air. Closer now. A lot closer than before. They were bringing him here.

Ryker looks at me for the first time since the witch entered the room and gives me a reassuring look. “Everything will go back to normal after this. I promise.”

I wish he hadn’t promised me that because I knew deep down that if Evie wasn’t six feet under, there was a chance betraying Ryan this way would be fruitless.

Ryan’s pov

The line went dead.

Again.

I lower the phone slowly from my ear, staring at the blank wall as silence fills my room. Another Alpha. Another lie. Or perhaps the truth. I didn’t know which one to believe.

My jaw clenched as I forced myself to breathe through the frustration clawing at my chest. My fingers tightens around the phone until the plastic creaked under the pressure as I remembered the alpha’s words.

“I told you,” the Alpha’s voice echoes in my head. “I haven’t seen any girl matching that description. We have no stray on our territory. Besides, I thought Kimberly Gold was your mate? We saw your engagement announcement.”

I had said some words I admit were a bit hostile as a response and he then had ended the call,

But it’s not like he had the answers for me anyway because every alpha I have contacted said the same thing.Every single one of them.

No.

Haven’t seen her.

Don’t know who you’re talking about.

She’s not here.

My wolf paced violently inside me, restless and furious.

They’re either hiding her and doing my father’s bidding or worse……Evie was really all alone and gone.

“Fucking hell baby,” I muttered under my breath.”Where the fuck could you be?” My fingers run through my hair as I begin pacing the floor. I let out a sharp irritated exhale.

She couldn’t just disappear. She couldn’t just vanish from existence. She was out there, somewhere. She had to be. She was my mate. And even though I marked Kimberly that night, Evie was still my fated mate. A bond, even though small after what I had done, still flickered.

My chest tightened painfully at the thought.

My mate.

That word alone made my wolf push forward again, slamming and clawing against my control with enough force to make my vision muddy for a short moment. I breathed out sharply through my nostrils and brace my hands on the desk

Where are you, Evie?

You couldn’t have gone far……could you?

As my thoughts rage inside my head, suddenly the door bursts open. I spin around instantly, my wolf rising to the surface in immediate warning.

Javon stood there, along with ten warriors behind him. Their expressions were tense and alert, as though they were about to approach a threat.

My eyes narrowed on them all. Why were they here? I didn’t send for anyone.

“What is the meaning of this Javon?” I asked coldly. I don’t trust anyone in this pack anymore. Not since my very own parents betrayed me..

Javon bowed his head slightly but he did not lower his gaze completely. “Alpha Ryker has asked for your presence immediately,” he said.

Asked for my presence? He couldn’t mind link me himself? He had to send eleven warriors to come fetch me? Yeah, something was clearly up.

That alone made my wolf rise in alert as he snarl..

‘They’re up to something,’ Apex, my wolf growls.

‘I know,’ I answered him as I study the warriors. ‘We can try to fight them off but there are too many.’

‘We won’t cower.’ He roars and I agree with him.

“I’m busy,” I said flatly to Javon.

No one moved and no one spoke as the air grew thick with tension. Javon lifted his head fully now. “That wasn’t a request, young alpha. That was a command.”

A command. I nearly snorted. How dare he!

My lip curls into a sneer as my teeth flash dangerously. ” I said,” I growl, my voice dropping dangerously low. I’m busy.” Apex pushes harder against my control, sensing the threat.

Javon stepped forward anyway despite my warning and that was his mistake. “Do not,” I warned, my voice now barely above a whisper. “Take another step.”

He froze and the warriors behind him tensed. But then Javon spoke the words that shattered what little restraint I had on Apex.

“You’re coming with us.” And then they moved all at once. They rushed me and my wolf rips forward with a savage snarl.

I grabbed the first warrior and threw him across the room. His body slammed into the wall hard enough to crack it. He groans in pain as he drops to the floor.

Another grabbed my arm and I drove my elbow into his ribs, hearing the sickening satsifying crack as he collapsed. Two more grabbed my shoulders.

I fought them off as fury takes over. Apex was now at the surface, raging. “Let go!”I roared but more of them rush towards me, grabbing and trying to drag me out the door.
