Ryan’s pov

I didn’t stop walking until I was inside my room and only then did I release the breath I’d been holding. “Fuck,” I muttered under my breath.

My hands curled into fists as I paced the floors, trying to get my body under control as my heart thumped hard. My wolf was restless inside me. No……restless wasn’t even the right word to describe what he felt. My wolf, he was….. fixated….on her.

‘Go to her,’ he nearly panted.

“Shut up,” I growled quietly to him out loud. Anyone in hearing range would think I had completely lost it.

What he was asking me to do was impossible. We already had a mate. Even if the bond with Kimberly had never been fully sealed and even though my wolf Apex had never truly accepted her.

Even if….

I dragged a hand down my face, trying to shake the thoughts of her away. But her scent was still in my nose.

Vanilla.

Honey.

So warm and so intoxicating.

My body reacted instantly again and my jaw tightened in frustration. What the hell was wrong with me?

A woman I barely knew shouldn’t make me this aroused.

Just as my thoughts raged on, the door suddenly opened, and Kimberly’s screeching voice bounced off the walls nastily. “You fucking humiliated me out there Ryan!” She snaps. “In front of the enemies for crying out loud! What will they think and say now that you’ve embarrassed me in front of them?”

My jaw clenched and I ignored her. That seems to upset her even more. “Ryan!” She barks, her voice straining with fury.

I turn to her slowly, deliberately taking my time to respond and when I do, my voice is cold. “You went against my orders. You humiliated us out there by throwing that many warriors into one single room,” I take a step forward, my boots thumping against the flooring. “What would happen to our reputation if the council got involved?”

Her eyes narrow into slits. “They deserved it. Especially her. She drew my blood.”

My brows raised in surprise. No one informed me that anything like that had occurred. “When?”

She lets out an annoyed breath. “When you went to the infirmary to check up on your father. I wanted to speak to her alone and she, being the bitch that she is, challenged me.”

My jaw pops. Not in anger that the woman dared touch my Luna but in frustration that I don’t feel enraged by the information. Why do I not care that she hurt my Luna?

Not even Apex cares. He should care.

But he doesn’t.

“Aren’t you going to say anything!?” Kimberly hisses when I remain quiet for too long.

I stare at her for a few silent tensed moments, trying to summon the anger that should be there. That should be raging inside me fiercely. Fighting to feel the instinct every Alpha is supposed to feel when someone lays a hand

on their Luna.

But there’s nothing. No rage. No protective fury and no urge to hunt down the woman who hurt her. No urge to make her pay.

Instead, my mind betrays me by replaying the scene that happened a few minutes ago. The woman’s flushed angry face. Her blazing furious eyes and the way she stood her ground even when Kimberly tried to belittle her and her people.

My wolf stirs again. Fuck.

“You went to speak to her alone?” I question and Kimberly’s face flushed with frustration.

“Is that all you got from what I just said?!” She snaps angrily and storms towards me. I raised a brow, unflinching and uncaring that she was irked by my disinterest.

“Ryan, she hurt your Luna!” She pressed and I fought the urge to roll my eyes. Knowing Kimberly, she was the one who pushed the woman to react.

“What do you expect me to do Kimberly?” I asked dryly. “You seem unharmed,” I scan my gaze over her body.” You’ll live.”

Kimberly’s mouth opens and forms an ‘o’ shape. She was clearly stunned by my lack of outrage. Her face reddens in rage instantly.”That’s all you have to say, Ryan? After what she had done to me?”

“What exactly do you want me to say, Kimberly?” I ask calmly.

“I want you to act like an Alpha!” she snaps. “She disrespected your Luna!”

My patience snaps then. “I will act like an Alpha when my Luna starts acting like a Luna and not an egoistic bitch.

She flinched, clearly taken aback by my words before she controls her emotions and straightens her spine. Her face hardens and the once beauty turns ugly. “You’ve become weak. An alpha would-

“Not risk his pack getting further destroyed because the Luna couldn’t keep her head out of her ass long enough to see that we need this alliance. We are to be allies with them and you’re stirring up trouble. This is not about you Kimberly,” my eyes narrowed angrily on her face. “This is about the pack!”

The words echo harshly in the room and if anyone was close by, they surely heard. Kimberly stares at me like I’ve just slapped her across the face. Her chest rise and falls rapidly, her fingers curling into tight fists at her sides. For a pending second I believe she might actually lunge at me but instead she utters.

“Why aren’t you taking my side?”

I breathe out through my nostrils hard. I was becoming very impatient with her and her actions recently were further running that line even thinner. “Kimberly-
