Evie’s pov

Kimberly froze for a second before she lets me go quickly as though I was dirty. Her posture straightens immediately. “Oh Ryan-

She whirls around to speak to him, obviously aiming to lie but one glare at him made her shut up. I smirk and lift the apple to my mouth and bite into it once more. The crunch echoes in the room.

“What is going on here?” Ryan demands, shifting his gaze between Kimberly and me.

Kimberly stiffens. “Evie and I were just having a sisterly conversation.”

I snorted and Ryan’s gaze snapped to mine instantly. I try not to feel the shiver the tingle down my spine when his

gaze rests upon me.

“Well, I will leave you two to it then,” I cleared my throat mockingly and ripped my gaze off Ryan to look at Kimberly who looked ready to bury me with her eyes.

I giggle. “Goodnight alpha Ryan and Luna Kimberly,” I bowed my head slightly and tilt my head to show my neck. I hated every single second of bowing to them but it was more so as mockery.

I turn to leave but Ryan’s voice stops me. I closed my eyes tightly for half a second and cussed inwardly. The moon goddess was testing me a lot tonight.

“Wait,” he called out.

I turn slowly to face him. He looks snugged that he was irritating me. That arrogant piece of shit. “I want to have a word with you. Can you spare me a few minutes of your time, I promise I don’t bite.”

I raised a brow, not amused at his light almost playful tone. And by one glance at Kimberly, neither was she.” It’s late Ryan, this conversation can wait for tomorrow. Come on baby,” she wraps her arms around him possessively. “Let’s go back to bed.”

My stomach twisted at the sight and Serena growled in my head.

Ryan’s eyes flicked briefly to Kimberly’s hand before he gently pry it off him gently. “You go on ahead,” he told her. Her head snapped toward him quickly and she looks pissed off. That alone satisfied me and made me actually want to stay just to get her angry even more.

“You’re going to stay down here?” she asked sharply, her voice pitching higher due to her anger. “With her?”

Ryan didn’t even glance at me this time. His eyes stayed on Kimberly. He looks calm as he responds dryly. “I said I’ll be up soon.”

Her jaw tightened as her anger grew but she fought to keep her composure.

I leaned casually against the kitchen counter now and took another loud bite of my apple as I stared at the two like I was watching some kind of drama series unfold.

Kimberly noticed my relaxed expression and glared at me. “What are you staring at?” she hissed under her breath.

I smiled sweetly and lifted the apple slightly in a mocking toast, knowing it would irk her more. “Don’t mind me Luna, I’m only staring.”

Her nostrils flared before she spun back to Ryan.”You’re choosing to entertain her over your own mate?” she demanded and for a second, I thought she’d stomp her foot on the floor like a child.

Ryan’s brows furrowed slightly into a frown.”I’m not entertaining anyone, I just need to discuss something with the head warrior.”

Kimberly’s lips pressed into a thin line. She didn’t like that. Her wolf flashes briefly behind her eyes before she finally steps back.

“Fine,” she said coldly. But before leaving, she leans closer to him and places a quick possessive kiss on his cheek, her eyes sparing mine to watch my reaction. She was basically telling me that he was hers.

My stomach twisted violently and I looked away.

“I’ll be waiting upstairs for you baby,” Kimberly says in a flirty tone, then turned and walked out of the kitchen, her nightgown swishing dramatically behind her.

The moment she disappeared around the corner, the entire room fell silent. I took another bite of my apple, chewing softly. I won’t be the first to speak.

Ryan slowly turned to face me fully. “You enjoy aggravating her.”

I shrugged nonchalantly. “A Luna is supposed to be more composed of her emotions. She makes it too easy to ruffle her feathers. In her case, her fur.”

Ryan studied me quietly before he suddenly uttered. ” I heard what you told her.”

I froze mid-bite, my heart leaping. What had he heard? Why does he look at me so intensely?

Slowly, I lowered the apple from my mouth and chewed as if nothing had changed. Like my pulse hadn’t suddenly started pounding in my ears.

“Oh?” I said lightly after swallowing. “And what did you hear, alpha? Your Luna said a lot and said many stuff too.

Ryan didn’t shift or blink, his eyes remained locked on me like he was trying to figure me out like a puzzle piece. ” You told her I was your true mate.”

The words landed sharply in the quiet kitchen and my grip on the apple tightened slightly. Of course, that was the part he heard. Out of everything. I got too sloppy with my words.

I forced out a small laugh. “Oh, the joke I told her? I just wanted to poke at your Luna.”

Ryan’s jaw flexed. He didn’t buy my lie. “That’s not something people usually joke about.”

I leaned back against the counter, chewing my apple like this conversation bored me, even though my heart was racing inside my chest and I knew he could hear. “Well, I’m not like most people.”

Ryan ignored those words completely and shifted closer to me. His eyes serious. “Is it true?”

Serena stirred restlessly. ‘He feels it Evie. The bond isn’t fully gone.”

I swallowed the apple, pushed off the counter and questioned. “Why would you assume it is?”

Ryan took a slow step toward me.”Because when you said it… you didn’t smell like you were lying.”

My breath caught for a split second before I forced it back under control. ” I was joking. And even if I wasn’t, why does it matter? You already have a luna and a wife.” I begin to walk away but before I could, his hand shot out and grabbed my wrist.

The contact sent a jolt straight through me and my breath hitches before I could stop it.
