Evie’s pov

Ryan’s eyes flicker to me briefly when her words snapped through the air. I didn’t miss the warmth his gaze brushed my way before he tore his eyes away from me.

I shrug it off.

Gavin stepped forward slightly, his tone cold and firm. “Now that your Luna threatened the life of my head warrior, perhaps we should involve the council,” he said. “Attempted murder. Abuse of rank. This isn’t something that should get handled quietly.”

The word council made the air in the room heavy. Margaret went pale and Kimberly’s head snapped toward Gavin, panic flashing across her face. “No- wait,” she gasped.

“You crossed the line Kimberly,” he said in rage. “You tried to poison someone in my territory. You compromised the pack treaty by doing so!”

Her face went ghostly white. “I didn’t mean to-

“I should involve the council,” Ryan gritted his teeth thoughtfully. “But then that wouldn’t serve the punishment you deserve.”

Kimberly’s eyes widen in horror and Margaret being the darling mother that she is, rushes to her and falls to her knees beside her. “Wait alpha please. Let me take all the punishment-

“And you,” Ryan snarls angrily.” Trying to poison your own daughter. How more disgusting can you be? Your mate is injured on the hospital bed but instead you’re be by his side, you’re trying to kill the daughter you birthed. “/

Margaret flinches as though Ryan had struck her physically. “I-I didn’t- “her voice broke, hands trembling as she clutched Kimberly.

How pathetic. They both were.

Kimberly’s eyes glisten with tears. “Ryan please-

Her voice breaks but there’s no regret in her voice. No fucking guilt. “I’m your mate. Your Luna. The Luna of this pack. You can’t punish me. You can’t-

“Watch me,” Ryan grits out, eyes blazing with the color of his wolf. In a few seconds, four warriors from his pack enter the room and Kimberly tries to scurry to her feet.

“Bring them both to the dungeons,” Ryan orders coldly.

“Ryan!” Kimberly cries, tears rolling down her face.

Margaret let out a soft sob, bowing her head. “Alpha… please,” she whispered. “Punish me. I’ll take it all. Just don’t do this to her.”

Ryan’s gaze flicked to her boredly. “If you think sacrificing yourself will erase what she did,” he said coldly. “Then you’re more foolish than I thought.”

Margaret’s shoulders shook and Kimberly stared at him like she didn’t recognize him anymore. Ryan looks at the warriors who gripped both Kimberly and Margaret. “Place them in separate cells.”

“Yes, alpha,” they nod. But Ryan wasn’t done. He took a step forward and Kimberly instinctively shrank back.

“You wanted to act like a Luna?” he said, voice low. “Then you can face consequences like one.”

He acknowledges the warriors. “Take them away and out of my sight now.”

“Wait Alpha please,” Hannah starts to plead to Ryan.

He snapped his gaze to hers so quickly I thought he’d break his neck. “So you want to join them Hannah?”

She shrinks back and quickly shakes her head no. Kimberly sends her a glare, clearly showing her disappointment. I snorted, amused at the situation and how it had backfired on them.

Kimberly never really had brain cells to begin with so I wasn’t surprised her plan had failed.

“Take them out,” Ryan ordered, his tone now impatient and frustrated.

The guards moved on his order, tugging their Luna and female beta away. Kimberly fights this time, really fights them with her claws.

“I am your Luna, you must stand down!” She snarls at them but they only shake their heads. “You can’t throw your Luna in the dungeon!”

“It’s the alpha’s orders Luna. Your authority doesn’t surpass his.”

“No! You can’t do this to me!” she screamed, struggling against their grip. “I’m your mate! You’re supposed to protect me! Ryan don’t do this! Ryan!”

Ryan didn’t react to her words and regarded her so coldly that it exposed how much he truly

didn’t care. That stunned me for a moment because I got a flashback of how he used to defend me against her. Until….that night.

‘Maybe he changed,’ Serena says.

Or maybe this is all an act,’ I reply dryly as I eye Kimberly and Ryan.

Kimberly caught the cold look he gave her and the realization seemed to hit her harder than the guards restraining her because her resistance began to falter.

Tears filled her eyes, ghosting with the look of pure fear. Her voice breaks. “Ryan…please don’t….” she whispered, her voice shattering.

Nothing. Absolute silence from him.

Margaret was crying louder now that she saw Ryan wouldn’t cave in to Kimberly and reach for her daughter. The warriors begin to pull them apart. “Kimberly! Kimberly.”

“Mom!” Kimberly cried back, panic rising as they get dragged in opposite directions. Their fingers slipping.

Hannah runs after them, crying and pleading for them to release her master. I rolled my eyes at the dramatics. The second they leave, the room falls into uncomfortable silence. I let out a slow breath, tension easing from my shoulders.

‘Well,’ Serena muttered sarcastically. “That went…wonderfully chaotic, don’t you think?’

I ignored her.

Ryan stands there for a moment, completely still as the tension stiffens his shoulders. Then he turned and his eyes landed on me.

His brows furrow into that line of worry. “You’re hurt,” he said, his gaze dropping to the faint line of blood on my shoulder.
