Ryan’s pov

I watch her walk away and I don’t try to stop her this time.

My feet stay planted where I stand, my tongue heavy. It was like something inside me knew that if I chased her….it would make things worse.

And Goddess it hurt to stay and watch her walk away because I wanted to so badly to stop her and pull her into my arms. Ask her why. Ask her why I would ever let her go.

My wolf snarls. ‘Go to her!’

He was restless but so was I. But I don’t move, I can’t.

Because suddenly, something rushes through my mind sharply. A flash of the past. A flash of her….

Her eyes. They were teary, pained as she stares at me. I had turned around to leave but then her words had stopped me in my tracks.

“I accept your rejection Ryan,” her tone had been shaky then and I could feel it in my bones that I wanted to turn back around and draw her in my arms. I wanted to comfort her. I wanted to tell her I loved her.

I didn’t want to reject her. I didn’t want to let her go.

But I did….

I stepped out of that room and walked away with my heart bleeding furiously the more I put distance between us.

I winced, lifting my hand to my head as the flashback stops abruptly.

Why did I do that? Why did I reject her?

I could’ve felt it then when I stared into her pained eyes. I had loved her. So badly that it hurt to see her teary. But why did I-

Kimberly. Kimberly must know. They all knew something. Mother, father. They all knew the truth.

And since Evie refused to tell me herself, I was going to find out the other way.

With a hiss, I turned on my heel and headed straight for the dungeon. My steps are quick and heavy as frustration buzzes through my being.

In a few minutes, I am already drawing closer to the dungeon. Two warriors are stationed on each side of the entrance. The second they see me their form goes rigid and they share a nervous look. I don’t even acknowledge them and dare not slow down.

I could hear Kimberly’s sobs from here and her mother’s too. What she had done could have gotten her banished but I wasn’t done with her yet. Not when I needed answers. Not when I wanted to see her suffer for hurting Evie.

“Alpha-” They started, but I cut in.”Open her cell,” I ordered them coldly.

The keys fumbled slightly in the warrior’s hand before the iron door creaked open. The sound grated against my nerves and I grit my teeth.” Hurry up,” I snapped impatiently.

I stepped inside the second he opened the cell. I spot Kimberly in the corner, her form small and curled as she trembles from crying. Perhaps I would’ve felt sorry for her before but I can’t feel any ounce of sympathy towards

her now. Not when she hurt….her.

Now all I want is for her pain.

Now she looks pathetic.

Her head snapped up the moment she sensed me in the cell. Her red, swollen eyes pin on my cold face as tears streaked her face. She stumbles to stand up, legs wobbly as she tries to run towards me. “Ry-an I knew you would come to get me out of here-

I lift my hand to stop her, my palm slapping her forehead before she even touches me. The words die in her throat and her tear streaked face looks at me in sorrow.” You didn’t come to take me out of here…did you?” It wasn’t really a question because she already knew the answer to it.

“I come for answers,” I said coldly and she tears her eyes away, peeling back. I set my hands to my side, fisting them as my wolf stirs in my being. He was agitated. Furious that she dared hurt Evie.

She shakes her head, tears flowing down her face. “What will you do to me and my mother?” Her voice shakes and I can hear the fear curling in the pitch.

My eyes narrowed on her, taking in how pitiful she looks now.” Answer me first, Kimberly,” I take a step forward and she flinches back. “What do you know about Evie being my mate?”

I heard her sharp intake of breath before I see her stumble away like I had physically struck her. Her eyes widen, the sobs dying in her throat. Her act had finally come to a halt. “You know?” She gasped, eyes swimming with fear but then they suddenly narrowed. ” Did that bitch reveal it to you-

I wrapped my hand around her throat so quickly she hadn’t even had time to move away. She hisses in pain as I choke her.” Ryan-” she gasped for air.
