Ryan’s pov

Mother lets out a broken sob, collapsing to her knees beside the bed. “Ryan, son please…” she begs, her hands shaking as they reach for me but stop halfway, like she’s afraid I’ll break them off. “Don’t do this Ryan. Don’t become this. You don’t have to become this.”

Become this….

It was already far too late.

“Look at you now,” I said coldly, releasing Father’s throat with a shove that sends his weak body sinking back into the mattress. His eyes are wide in disbelief, completely stunned that I said those words to him. “Look how pitiful you got because of the consequence of your actions.”

Father coughs violently, clutching his chest as he struggles for air. Crimson blood stains his lips, his breathing ragged and uneven but his eyes never leave mine.

Still stubborn to not back down, even now when he could barely breathe. “You dare speak to me like that?” he rasps. “You have no idea what we’ve carried…what we’ve sacrificed to keep this pack alive.”

A humorless laugh leaves my throat. “Sacrifice?” I mocked, shaking my head slowly in disbelief. “You didn’t sacrifice anything. You stole the life I should’ve had with her.”

My chest tightens as her face flashes in my mind again. Evie. The way she looked at me earlier, so guarded, so hurt. Like she didn’t trust a single word that came out of my mouth.

“Ryan…please…” Mom cried, her voice cracking as her finger try to reach for me again. One cold glare had her retracting them quickly in fear. “You must understand we did it for you. For your future. For the pack-”

“I don’t give a damn about the pack!” I roared, my loud roar bouncing off the walls from the force of my voice.

Apex surged forward, furious and restless from the anger running through us. The air in the room grows heavy, suffocating under my fury. I could even hear the pack doctors scurrying away behind the door, scared.

“All this time…” I laughed darkly, dragging a hand through my hair. “All this fucking time I thought something was wrong with me. I thought that I was a bad Alpha because I didn’t love the woman who wasn’t my fated mate. All along…my fated mate was erased from me.”

My chest tightened painfully. My gaze snapped to my mother who shrunk back, her face flushed with shame. My canines pushed out of my gums as I snarled at her. “You! The second she set foot here you, acted like she was some fucking enemy! I knew something was wrong the moment I set my eyes on her!”

“The way I felt around her…the way my wolf reacted…” My voice dropped in an angry pitch. “You tried to make me believe she was my enemy.”

Mother shook her head frantically. “No! We knew you’d think badly if we told you the truth! You wouldn’t believe that we were trying to protect you-

“Protect me?” I snorted, my gaze snapping away from her to stare at my father. “Protecting me would be you and father allowing me to have my mate. Protecting me would be you two telling me the truth! Instead, you masked it with a lie about some fucking rogue attack!”

Silence slammed into the room heavily and even Father stopped struggling to breathe for a moment.

“You took her from me,” I continued, my tone growing more furious by the second. “You fucking took her from

me!” Apex snarled, pushing against my control.

Mother’s crying grows louder, tears staining her cheeks. She looked at father helplessly before returning her teary gaze to me. “We were trying to save you from the prophecy-”

“The fucking prophecy was wrong!” I snapped. “Or did you miss the part where your ‘perfect Luna’ got her ass handed to her?!”

Her lips trembled but no words came out. Because she knew I was telling the truth. She knew they had made the wrong choice and we were now suffering because of it. The entire pack was suffering because of this horrible decision on their part.

I turned back to Father, grabbed his collar and yanked him up harshly despite his clear weakened state. His breath rattled fragilely but I didn’t give a damn. He could choke on air for all I care.

“You chose wrong,” I said coldly, voice so icy I see the way he shivers. “And now everyone is paying for it.”

His eyes flickered with something close to regret when my words reach his ears. It was now too late to feel that

way.

“The bond is breaking free…” I continued, my voice dropping into a more dangerous pitch. “Which means everything you did, every lie, every fucking manipulation was all for nothing.”

My grip tightened and his face grew more pale. “I’m taking back what’s mine. She will be the Luna of this pack. The very same woman you tried to erase will rule alongside me.”

Father looks visibly shocked for a moment before his eyes narrowed. “Good luck,” he coughs, blood splattering across my face.” She won’t accept you. You’re barely an alpha. You’re an alpha with a broken pack.”

A/smirk curls on his lips cruelly as though he was satisfied with his words. I shake my head, ashamed that this man was my father.

I wipe the blood from my face slowly, my thumb dragging across my cheek before I wipe it on his shirt like it disgusts me. Because it does.

Everything about this….. them…. disgusts me.

A slow, dangerous smile curls onto my lips as I look down at him and then release his collar and let him fall back against the bed like he weighs nothing.

He wheezes, his chest rising unevenly as he struggles to recover but I’m already stepping away. Already done with him, already done with them.

“For once in your life,” I continue coldly, “you’re going to sit back and watch me take back the life you tried to keep away from me.”

Mother cries behind me, begging me to forgive her and forgive them but I don’t even respond. They were not worthy of my words anymore. They weren’t even worthy of being in my presence.

I stormed out of the room and out of the infirmary, my steps harsh and quick, leading me to her….my true mate. My true Luna.

I didn’t know everything but I knew that she was mine.

‘Ours.’ Apex growled in my head and purred in satisfaction.
