Ryan’s pov

+30 Bonus

A low, furious growl ripped from my chest before I even realized it. The sound was loud and harsh, causing the birds in the trees to fly out of the trees out of fear. Some of my warriors that had been running around froze, staring at me in fear.

‘Mine.’ Apex pushed forward violently, claws scraping against my insides as his rage exploded inside me.

‘She’s ours!’ he roars, seeing red. My gums throb as my canines threaten to push out and my claws tingle to rip through flesh. My vision narrowed, locking onto one thing. His arms. Around her. Holding her like he had a right

to even touch her.

Like she belonged in his arms.

Something inside me snapped when his smirk only widened, as though he found my anger amusing. My feet were moving quickly before I even made the decision.

The warriors nearby froze, their instincts screaming at them to get the hell out of my way. They looked between each other, some gossiping and wondering what was going on but I didn’t see them. Hell, I wasn’t even focused on them. I was focused on her. And him. The bastard that had his arms wrapped around my true mate.

All I saw was red. “Get your fucking hands off her!” I snarl, my wolf rippling with anger.

Gavin didn’t move, if anything….his smirk deepened. That alone sent a violent pulse of rage running through me.

Evie stiffened in his arms then, like she finally felt me. Slowly, she pulled back from him, turning around and Goddess…..that look on her face. Guarded, cold and unaffected. Like I was nothing more than an inconvenience.

It hit harder than anything my father had said. But I didn’t let it show, I don’t dare let it show. I couldn’t. Not now. Not when another male had just been touching what was mine.

“Ryan,” she said flatly. There was no emotion in her eyes, no warmth. Nothing. Like I meant nothing.

Apex snarled viciously. ‘Why does she say our name like that? Does she hate us that badly?’

My jaw clenched and I tear my eyes away from her. “I said,” I repeated, my eyes never leaving Gavin’s. “Get. Your. Hands. Off. Her.”

Gavin finally dropped them…..but not because I told him to. No. He stepped slightly in front of her instead, protectively. Like he was shielding her from me.

But that wasn’t what made me fucking lose it. It was his next words that unleashed my beast. “Why should I listen to you? You don’t own her. She’s mine.”

That fucking did it.

Before I could control Apex, he stepped forward and slammed into my mind. In seconds, I am no longer human and a snarling wolf, jaws snapping for Gavin’s neck.

Evie’s pov

“Five more!” I yelled at the warriors as I watched them run laps around the huge field. Most were barely able to keep their legs going and it was quite funny. Were they always this weak before? Why weren’t they properly trained?

No wonder they got so demolished by the vampires.

Javon clearly had them slack off.

“In fact, ten more!” I snapped again, crossing my arms as I watched them struggle through the last stretch of the

field.

Their breathing was uneven, sloppy, shaky and weak. My jaw tightened with frustration and I crossed my arms over my chest.

This…was supposed to be a pack of warriors? The second strongest in the region? They could barely do five push- ups without stuttering for a breath. How pitiful and embarrassing.

“No wonder you all got your asses handed to you,” I muttered under my breath but loud enough for a few of them to hear. “A bunch of sissies.”

A couple of the guys straightened instantly and forced more strength into their stride. I bit the inside of my cheek to not laugh at them.

“Pick it up!” I barked, my voice sharp as a whip. “If this is your best, then you all are dead the next time someone attacks!”

They murmured a lot of complaints but their pace quickened. Barely, however, it was something.

I exhaled slowly and dragged a hand through my hair in frustration. “They need a lot of work,” Gavin’s voice pulls me out of my thoughts.

I turned my head slightly and glanced at him as he walked up beside me. His expression was stony as his eyes scanned the field briefly before settling on me.

“You okay?” he asked quietly in that protective manner.

I let out a short breath and nod once before looking away. “I’m fine.”

Evie,” Gavin utters softly.” I know he annoyed you back there. Did this guy really lose his memories or is he just pretending?”

I looked away from Gavin and set my eyes on the warriors, pretending not to care about anything concerning Ryan. “I don’t know and honestly….I don’t care,” I shrug. “I just want him to leave me alone.”

‘Liar,’ Serena stirs inside my head. ‘You don’t want him to leave you alone.’

‘We don’t know what we want.’ I confess, as I recall how Ryan looked at me back there. He looked so hurt by my

words.

“Evie,” Gavin calls again and I look at him again, but this time, my vision is a bit blurred. Fuck. I hate this. I hate showing weakness.

Gavin doesn’t say another word; he didn’t have to. He opened his arms and that alone beckoned me to step right into them. The second I do, his arms envelope me protectively. ” It’s okay to still feel emotions for him, Evie. You two had history,” he says softly and I bury my head in his shirt, hoping to hide away the evidence of my tears.

I had tried so hard not to be affected by Ryan anymore. I had tried so hard not to care. But it only took two days and I feel like the same Evie back then. Emotional and can’t get a hold of her own feelings. The same Evie who…loved Ryan.

Wipe your tears, Evie. I chant to myself. It’s embarrassing enough that the warriors are probably looking.
