101. Crisis after crisis

FREYA POV

The funerals were beautiful. The situation, however is haunting our pack members.

Colt told their son what happened to his mother, and after a few hours, the group we sent out to

find the vampires hide out brought home Dwain’s body.

He had gone after the vampires, and by the looks of it, they made him pay for it. He didn’t just have a bite mark on him, he had them all over. Accompanying the bite marks were what looked like slashes of a knife all over his skin. Those slashes wreaked of a scent I had rather hoped to never

smell again.

Wolfsbane.

They tortured him. He didn’t have any restraint markings on him though, so it looks like they did to him what they did to those girls and made him feel like everything was fine while he suffered.

The pack was scared. The pack was sad. The pack was angry.

The anger became more and more evident as groups of people began asking to go on the

searches for the vampire hide out.

Colt hasn’t told anyone yet, but the group already found the hide out. It’s been a couple days, but he requested the group keep it secret for now. Alpha Damon agreed. Tensions are high and emotions are higher. The pack needs a few days, then we will tell them and create a plan.

Eunice has informed Colt that the vampires either know or will know where we are and he’s seen that they will begin luring people out and killing them. Though, he sees this taking place when the leaves are changing color and beginning to fall.

This leaves us with roughly a month. It’s mid august now, this doesn’t start happening until about

mid September, if we’re lucky.

Colt is having to deal with the fact that our hunting abilities are a bit limited because of these

creatures on our mountain. Usually the best hunting is at Dawn and dusk. We can’t have people out

late enough to be taking advantage of the dusk hunting, and our Dawn hunting is doing well but not

enough to make up for the fact we’re not out in the evenings.

Jessi and I have gotten all the kids in bed. We’re having dinner with Damon and Jocelyn tonight

with Jessi and Levi. We need to hammer down details of what this is going to look like.

1 don’t think we can really go into their cave to fight them.” Damon began. “We lose the advantage of daylight at that point.”

“I agree.” Levi added. “Though they don’t have the added strength of the moon at that time, they

still don’t have enough drawbacks to make it a good strategy on our end.”

Colt cut into his steak, scooped some potatoes into his fork and took a bite while he chewed and

thought.

“How exactly can we get the upper hand in battle with them? Sure, light is their weakness, so they’re not going to come out in it and fight us.” He said after he swallowed. Raising a good point.

We all sat and ate for a moment, “What if we trapped them?” Jessi asked.

“You mean in their cave?” I asked for clarification.

“Exactly. They’re obviously getting human blood somehow, but if they’re trapped and can’t get out they’ll end up dying, won’t they?” She looked at the guys as she asked.

“How do we know if they have more than one exit to this cave? Are you familiar with the cave their using?” Damon asked Colt.

“Vaguely. I know there is at least one exit besides the one the men located. Without getting inside

the cave there’s really no way to know for sure.” Colt answered.

Levi chimes in, “Not to mention there’s not really a way to know how many of them there are either.

They could have several tunnels leading several directions with an army in there. Caves are really not an easy thing to deal with in combat.”

“I’m thinking we might need to think away from the cave.” Colt said after a couple more minutes in

silence.

“Yes, the cave poses too many questions and there’s no safe way to gain access to the cave. They

surely don’t leave it unattended at night.” I said.

Then an idea came to me, “We already know that they’re going to come here, so why don’t we

prepare for that. Armor up, make coming here a trap.” I said. “I have no clue how, but maybe that’s

the reason Eunice had the vision. Get us ready for what we know they’re willing to do.”

“It could work.” Damon said.

“We just have to figure out what to do to armor up. Levi added.

“I may have a couple of ideas from things I’ve read, but we need to know more about them.” Colt

said.

The rest of dinner we sat and bounced ideas of each other about how we armor up the pack and defend ourselves from these beasts.

Damon advised us that he will be staying with his men. He’s notified his pack that they’re not attending the games this year. This is something I’ve been wondering as the games should be starting now. They’re being held at the Silver Moon pack this year, which is Jocelyn’s pack.

She said that her family was hoping to see her, but this is an issue here and Damon agreed is more

important.

“If we don’t end this now, this could be a problem for the whole species.” She said.

I hate how right she is. Why is it always our pack dealing with the potential species ending

situations. Crisis after crisis.

“We have two more days to figure this out.” Colt advised our dinner party, “We will need to inform the pack by that time and they’ll be expecting to prepare for our attack.
