COLT POV
I hate this, all of this! I’ve never lost my cool on Freya before. And where the hell I get off acting like
she doesn’t know me after the year? What the f**k is my problem?
I was about to go back to apologize to her, but then I got the link saying the sheriff was here. So, I
went to go meet him.
The sheriff is an odd looking man, in my mind anyways. He’s really skinny, doesn’t even look like he
could hold a sword let alone that gun strapped to his hip. He has dark hair and dark eyes, patchy
facial hair like he might be growing a beard but his baby face is fighting back, and he’s probably
normal height for a human.
He brought two guys with him. One looked like he just ate a whole pig, and he kind of looks like he’s dying from the walk up. The other is an old man, white hair and wrinkles. He doesn’t look like the
walk killed him but he might die of old age on the walk back.
Quite the trio of men. The skinny one was the only one that didn’t look like he was half dead, but he
sure looks scared.
“What did y’all do to him?” I asked Levi through mind link.
“Nothing Alpha, he’s been s*****g bricks since he saw us.” He said with humor, clearly he’s been enjoying the man being scared of them.
“Humans.” I said back to him.
I walked up to this tiny human and looked him over
“So, you gone look at this body or what?” I asked.
“Um” he stuttered, “I- well- are you the- I’m- leader?” He asked.
“Alpha Colt.” I responded.
I’m not even trying. I’m actually being nice to this guy and he’s visibly shaking. He’s heard too many
horror stories apparently.
“I–I’m sheriff Hawkins. C–can you tell me about the deceased? Um- dead person.” He asked.
I had to ignore that he thought I wouldn’t know what deceases meant, I am trying to be civil after
all.
“I was taking my wife and kids outside of our territory to some waterfalls we frequent. My wife
saw the body first, then I.” I answered. “It was hitting up against rocks.”
He either looked like he actually s**t himself or he wanted to ask something he wasn’t sure he

should.
“Ask your question, sheriff.” I said, feeling annoyed. know his question.

“Umm–well h–how exactly would w–we” he pointed to the fat and old ones first then at him, “know
that it wasn’t, umm, well you?” Yup that’s what I thought he was going to ask.
Levi grew irritated, “We wouldn’t have hiked down a f*****g vampire infested mountain to call you then back down again to bring you up here!” He growled lightly trying to keep his anger under control.
The sheriff nervously chuckled, “oh umm yeah t–that makes sense.”
“Just come with us.” I said.
We began walking and I could hear wheezing, I looked back and realized the fat one was looking like he might not make it much longer.
“Let’s stop here.” I said, then turned to Levi, “I think they need rest and water.”
He literally flopped himself down on a chair in front of one of the huts, I thought the chair was going to collapse under him. Levi just looked at me and rolled his eyes walking away shaking his head. I could hear the chuckle once he got a little further away.
This situation is rather comical. One is so scared I feel like if I put a bell on him you’d hear him for
miles. Another is so old I’m pretty sure he has no actual clue what is going on, I’ve considered
checking his pulse because he seems like a dead man walking. Then there’s this sack of potatoes,
clearly they’re going to have to stay the night here I can’t imagine him surviving the way down
today.
After about an hour of resting and trying all the patience I have, we got to the waterfalls. I’ve had a
couple guys watching the body, we set it up on some logs we stood up so it was off the ground,
then put a blanket over it.
The guys were just there to make sure no one or nothing took off with it. We checked in with them several times through the night just because they weren’t in our territory, technically. They were just close to it.
“So, this is the waterfall you were talking about?” The sheriff asked, while his side kick made louder noises breathing than the sheriff spoke.
“Not at all, we just lay bodies around all our waterfalls. We find it makes people more comfortable. “I gave him a look like he was a moron. He understood it.
He walked over and took the blanket off the body. The smell is vile. You could tell immediately that he knew exactly who the dead man was. He looked and found what we did, and from the looks of it he was very upset that this person was tortured.

Suddenly, the scared little sheriff grew a pair.
“If I find out you had anything to do with this we will reign hell down on you wolves!” He said, then covered the body back up.
Levi stepped forward like he was going to say something back, but I stopped him.
“It’s someone he knows.” I said in a low voice, making sure Levi heard me but not many others.
I cleared my throat, which got him to look at me. “Look, my beta was right. Not that we do, but if we had killed a human we wouldn’t be inviting you up here. We are having issues with these
vampires too sheriff and we’re trying to figure out how to handle it.” I said.
“This is my problem, sir or um, alpha. No one that I’ve ever met has met a vampire and I looked it
up before we got up here. In the US we don’t have vampire related deaths. They’re just not here.”
The sheriff said, clearly wanting to put this blame on the pack.
I didn’t notice River’s brother coming up from behind me, “No deaths? My baby sister was
murdered by them and my father was too! You want to blame us for this dude’s death then do
what you want but do NOT talk like vampires aren’t here because they’re killing us!” He growled,
causing the sheriff to place his hand on the gun on his hip. He didn’t draw, but it crossed his mind.
