COLT POV
“It’s not shifting bears. They’re not real, just stories fold to us when we were kids. No one has ever actually seen one before.” I told Freya and Eunice as they brought this crazy idea to me.
“Or they’ve just not lived to tell the tale.” Freya said back, with a hand in her hip.
“The goddess, you said, is an owl. You’re shifting wolves. You just fought vampires. There’s witches, I’ve heard of fairies. Is it really so crazy to think that there aren’t other shifting creatures
out there?” Eunice asked.
“Yes!” I said, “It is incredibly crazy!”
“Colt, why would we be so special to be the only shifters? Don’t you think if the goddess created us
that she might have wanted to make others?” Freya asked.
I sat at my desk, this is ridiculous. I folded my hands in front of me and placed them on my desk,
cleared my throat, and tried to think of the nicest way to tell them they’re being fools.
“Look, the goddess I’ll admit threw me. But, she’s the goddess! I don’t know any other goddesses maybe they’re all owls, maybe it’s just her, I don’t know. However, wolves, vampires, witches, and even fairies are in the history books as far back as time. There’s nothing about bear shifters. Just
bears.” I said, hoping to put this to rest.
Freya threw her hands up, “You’re not even willing to entertain the idea?” I shook my head no to her.
“Fine, I will try to communicate with the Goddess.” She swirled around and walked out of the
office.
I turned to look at Eunice, “You don’t actually believe this, do you?” I asked.
He sat there a moment with one leg crossed over the other and his hands folded in front of him with his index fingers pointed out tapping against his lips.
“The one thing I know more than anything else is that this world is magical and unpredictable. I’m
a seer, and even I have no idea what all is out there. He said.
I decided to read through what Freya read that made her think shifters. It’s a story book. It’s hand
written meaning it must be from the pack ancestors, I say ancestors because it’s a very old book.
I’ve read this book before, it’s just a story about a few young wolves that fought a bear several
times because the bear was following them and wouldn’t leave them alone. They say in the story that the bear spoke to them, but the story is just that.
A story. As kids we’re always told that bears are dangerous just because they protect their young and their food. They don’t like to kill, but they will if they believe they are in danger or their food is

It doesn’t say shifters, it never talks about it being anything other than a bear. All it says is that the
bear talks. Not much to go on.
I thought back to earlier, the way the bear hid almost like it knew we were hunting for it in
particular and not any of the other animals out there. It hid until the sun was peaking just enough
to make things slightly more visible. When it attacked it attacked the one closest to it, which
makes sense. What didn’t make sense though, was that it wouldn’t stop. It just kept attacking him.
Even in my memory the scene was graphic and bloody. I kept playing it over and over in my head,
trying to remember more about the bear.
The more I replayed the attack the more I found about the bear that didn’t fit with general knowledge on animals.
The eyes were different than the kind of eyes you’d see in coyotes or mountain lions. The way it
acted was not animal like. Now I’m starting to feel crazy.
I stood up and shook my head like I was trying to shake the idea away. I’m just letting them get to
I decided to go find Freya, see if she’s gotten to talk to the goddess..
On my way to find her I ran into Harland and Misty.
“Have you seen Freya?” Misty asked.
“A while ago.” I answered, “She was heading to try to communicate with the goddess.”
“Why would she be doing that?” Harland asked me
“Well, she seems to think that the bear was a shifter.” I laughed a little as I said it. It just sounds
crazy.
Harland thought for a moment, “I’ve never heard of it, but these days I wouldn’t doubt anything like that.” He responded.
Great, he’s crazy too. Or am I crazy for being the only one who seems to think this is ridiculous?
They walked with me to go find Freya. Generally speaking, when she’s using her abilities she likes a certain place because it makes her feel one with the Earth.
As I expected, it’s exactly where she was. She was just sitting there with her eyes closed.
In the past, you couldn’t tell when she’d actually gone and spoken with her. She comes back quickly in our time so it is almost the blink of an eye. When did it, no one knew I left until Harland saw the blanket of feathers suddenly appear in my arms.
“Any luck?” I asked.

“Not yet, I’m having a hard time getting my groove She said as she swayed her body a little, not opening her eyes.
“Maybe I can help.” Harland said as he sat down with her.
Misty and I just stood there, it got quiet and awkward real quick.
“Maybe we should go?” Misty whispered to me.
I nodded, “I think they’ve got this.” I said as we began to turn away.
Suddenly Freya jumped up, “I f*****g knew it!” She yelled.

I have seen the notes about spelling and grammar errors. Slowly but surely I’m going back from chapter 60 I think is when it started from when I got my new phone that has been messing with me, I’m getting them corrected. I read this chapter a couple times just to make sure it wasn’t all wonky. I appreciate the feedback and I’m getting it corrected, bare with me while I do. I’m still trying to update daily while I go back and fix those errors so it’s not happening as fast as I’d like but I am working on it and looking at my chapters now when I’m submitting them. Thank you! #vote #
