< 152 The meal bringers
FREYA POV
Clearly our kids are natural at this.

I handed the pole over to Kira, and within an hour Colt and I were helping both our kids bring in fish after fish after fish. Not even just the same kind of fish. We had trout, catfish, bass, even perch.
Colt was surprised, he wasn’t even sure this little pond had fish in it. Obviously, there were, but
after today there might not be.
Colt decided to teach Hunter how to make a fire, and then they roasted a couple fish for us to eat for lunch. With all this fish we figured that we should at least eat some as fresh as possible. The kids enjoyed eating their catches. They were quite proud to be feeding the family already.
We decided to stay out there all day. It got a bit chilly once the sun fell behind the trees, so that was when we decided to go home. Colt asked Levi to gather a couple of people to greet us and
cheer on the kids for their hard work. He didn’t tell me that part through.
We were greeted by my dad, Luke, Levi, Jessi, Jaxson, Ash, Josh, Sky, Bjorn, Koda, Eunice and Chay.
They cheered on the kids as we were walking up. Our little hams soaked up their few minutes of
fame.
“I think this calls for a special feast!” Chay cheered.
“Special feast?” Hunter asked.
“Well yeah! You caught so many fish we could do a little fish fry to celebrate!” She said, looking up
to Colt and me to see if that was okay.
“I think that’s a great idea!” Colt jeered on. He picked up Hunter and Kira bringing them to his
shoulders, gosh I forget how strong this man is sometimes.
“Let’s celebrate our meal bringers!” Ash yelled as the whole group helped make such a big deal out of the kids catching some fish.
In Big Sky, with the way we live, it’s always a fairly decent deal when someone brings home food. We have a lot of people to feed. We can’t just run to a store to get food when we run out. Especially, during the winter. Granted, right now with the way it sounds like the world or at least America is, I don’t think many people can just run to the store when they’re running low on food , these days.
It didn’t take long for Jessi, Chay and I to get a good fry going. All the guys worked with the kids to get the fish all gutted and cleaned.

No one ever prepares you, as a mother, for the moment when your five year old little girl comes running up to you with a headless and gutless fish in her hand yelling, “Mommy I gutted a fishie!”
On the other hand, the pride on Colt’s face as he watched our kids clean fish made me happy.
I walked up behind him and wrapped my arms around his waist, still just watching as they cleaned the fish and ran it over to Chay so she could fry it up.
“You are brilliant.” I told him. I looked up to his face and saw a big smile.
When all the fish were cleaned, and the kids were good and gross we headed over to get their hands and faces washed up. Their clothes were still nice and fishy, but a mom can only get so
much cleanliness out of the wild.
Colt was almost just as fishy as they were. I sure can’t say l’enjoy the smell, but I do enjoy the sight
of everyone laughing with huge smiles all around the table eating the fish our kids caught. Sure, we
helped them but really, they were all their catches. Proud mommy.
After our delicious dinner of several different types of fish, we decided it was a good night for a
bonfire. So, we headed out with some homemade marshmallows that Chay learned how to make. I
was pretty excited about this; I haven’t roasted marshmallows in years, and I was very excited to
teach my kids this wonderful experience.
Colt and Levi took Jaxson and Hunter out to have the boys help start the fire. Ash went and
checked on the wall situation before he came back to join us, and Sky sent Bjorn and Koda to go
get their cubs.
Eunice and Chay brought out the marshmallows and their little girl, Crissy. We sat out at the bonfire
and after a little, my dad pulled out a guitar. I didn’t even know he knew how to play, let alone that
he had one.
“Found this thing back when our pack was working on getting here. Sort of taught myself to play.” He held the instrument out in front of him with one hand while he nervously rubbed his neck with
the other. He looked over at me, at which point I realized I was smiling ear to ear.
I think he took that as my blessing to play. I’m happy he did. Having him play, everyone singing, laughing, the smiles, the delicious marshmallows, and my amazing family and friends topped off the perfect day with the perfect night.
The kids ended up passing out around the bonfire. That impressed me because we were all being quite loud. Colt carried Hunter to the packhouse and to bed while I carried Kira. Hunter is quite a bit heavier than Kira is these days. When I look at them together, it surprises me that there was a
point in time when they were about the same in size.

We got them laid down in bed and went back to the fire. On the way back there, I figured I had
some things I really needed to say to Colt.
“Colt, I’m sorry.” I said.
He turned to look at me with a look that told me he was confused about what I was sorry for.
“I haven’t been very attentive lately. I haven’t been paying attention to much of the conversations we’ve been having lately and then when I realized that I freaked out on you instead of owning up to it. On top of all of that, I haven’t been a very good wife to you lately. I don’t have excuses, I guess I just…” I was rambling, but he turned around and stopped me. He grabbed my arms and wrapped
me up so he could kiss me.
I must have really needed that kiss more than I knew, because before I knew it I was walking back leading us towards a tree to brace against. In no time he was leading me off of the trail to another tree. Before I could wrap my head around how much I needed that kiss, he was deep inside of me, kissing and biting at my neck.

Hey my wonderful readers… Unfortunately, my condition took a very tragic turn for the worst. I have been having a really hard time handling this mentally but I saw some complaints about my lack of updates so I’ve got this one and another I am working on. I can’t really say I am going to be amazing and update daily right now but I will promise to do my best. I know you’r here for the book and not my situation so I will be doing my best. I am very sorry everyone for the lack of updates through December, it has been a rough month but I am hoping to get back in my groove. #vote#
