<154 My brother

  1. My brother

COLT POV

“Freya! What the f**k do you think you’re doing? Ash!” I yelled.

“On it Alpha!” He yelled back right away as he ran to the tree and began climbing.

“I’m finding out who they are!” She hollered. I could hear her walking away from the wall. “Hello?” She yelled out. “Who are you?” She asked them.

Every part of me felt that I needed to be on the other side of the wall with her, I climbed the tree after Ash who was just jumping down on the other side of the wall just as I started climbing up.

“I am Freya, Luna of Big Sky. Announce yourself!” She demanded, as nicely as she could while still being a bit nervous. I could sense her tenseness at ease, which made me feel uneasy. When I got

up the tree and staring over the wall I could see that they were walking up towards her.

I jumped down, startling Ash for a split second as he made his way towards Freya. He glanced

back at me a quick second and then back towards Freya. He jumped in front of Freya and shifted

facing towards the people walking towards him.

After a couple of seconds, he shifted back to himself. I just dropped out of the tree.

“Ash! What’s going on?” I growled, getting ready to shift.

“Alpha, it’s okay. We know them.” He answered.

I paused for a moment and tried to focus on the people in the dark. I couldn’t believe my eyes.

“Damon?” I half whispered.

He stepped into the moonlight, confirming it was him.

“You’re dead.” I said.

“Well, they sure tried.” He answered me. Hearing his voice struck a chord with me. My emotions heightened. I could almost cry. Damon has been more of a brother to me than my own brother

ever was. I hated that his pack had been attacked. When Harland said there were no survivors my

heart broke a little.

Really, I’ve just been trying to not think about it. I cannot show the type of emotion I felt then, so I just pushed it down. Now, tears threatened to break through. I’m having to fight like hell to keep myself collected right now.

Part of my emotions won though. I quickly walked over and wrapped him in a hug. Not a hug like I

would hug Freya or my kids, but a hug like I would hold a brother I thought had died.

I could feel that he was not quite himself, at the moment. He was basically using me to hold him

“It took a lot to get here, Brother. I can hardly stand.” He said low enough so only I could hear. He’s an Alpha, he must be strong for his pack, or at least what is left of it. Not to mention there’s no way

he is willing to look weak in front of another pack.

I pulled away from my hug to look at him and nod, letting him know I understood what he needed

from me.

“Ash, bring everyone to the gates to get them inside. Get Chay and Jessi to bring them all something to eat and lots of water.” I looked over at Freya, “Freya and I need to talk to Alpha

Damon.”

I could tell that she was suspicious that I wasn’t taking him to the gates right away. With all the rogues out here, I’m actually surprised she didn’t say anything. She must trust that there’s a reason

I’m doing this.

After everyone was out of earshot, I turned back to Damon.

“Are you hurt?” I asked him.

“No, just weak. We’ve gone weeks without actual food and water has been scarce. At least, water we can get to. Most of what we’ve been drinking probably isn’t safe for consumption.” He chuckled weakly, “Thank you Colt. I’ve been using every little bit of energy I’ve got to get my pack here.”

I turned over to Freya, “Can you run in, grab some water and food, and sneak it back out here?”

She gave me a look and then I think it clicked to her why I was doing it this way.

She left quickly and about ten minutes later she was back with a jug of water and a small bag of different foods for him. She also brought a first aid kit; she must have figured he might need

something more out of it.

“Do you think you can get to the packhouse? Or even to Sasha’s?” She asked him.

“Right now? No. Give me a little bit to rest, and I might be able to.” He responded.

I got down to his level while he was drinking some of the water, “Brother, we’re concerned being outside of the walls at night. We’ve been having rogues attack almost every night and with your condition I don’t think you could do a battle against them.” I told him.

“Colt and I can help you get wherever it is that you want inside the walls.” She said trying to

convince him.

He looked around for a few minutes. He kept drinking and ate a couple bread rolls. Finally, he tried

to stand up.

“Okay. I think I can get somewhere inside.” He said, very weakly.

“Do you think you need the healer?” Freya asked him as we began walking slowly.

He shook his head. “I just need to eat and sleep.” He responded.

We walked him over to his hut. It’s been a long time since he’s been here, but I haven’t let anyone touch his hut. He used to basically live here as a kid, so my dad gave him a hut. Ever since, this has been his and even when we thought he was dead I never let anyone touch it.

He didn’t have any food in here, but Freya had a bag of food with her. She laid out everything she had in the bag on the counter of the hut for him. Apples, dried meat, and bread. She also placed the jug of water she brought on the counter and grabbed the cup that was on the shelf filled it up

for him.

“Brother, we’re going to have to talk about everything you and your pack has been through. For now, we’re going to let you rest. I will be back in the morning to check on you.” I said to him.

“I don’t recall seeing Jocelyn. She didn’t make it?” Freya asked.

Damon’s face went white. The sadness pained me. Freya nodded at me.

“Get some rest Damon. We’re very happy you’re here. Colt, come.” Freya said, as she pulled open the door waiting for me to leave.

I looked over to Damon, I’ve never seen him as anything other than my crazy, funny, and strong friend I grew up with. Seeing him so hurt, so weak, and so sad was everything I never thought I would see. I knew he needed space so he could be weak, but I didn’t want to leave him.

Freya came over and put her hand on my shoulder, “Colt, he needs to rest.” She whispered to me, pulling on my arm so I would leave with her.

I was hesitant, but I knew she was right, so I walked out and closed the door.

Sleep will not come to me easily tonight.
