The Big Sky Alpha novel Chapter 28

Getting ready tonight felt like going to war, but the only person fighting was Colt. I asked Lila to do my face paint again because I was too nervous to try doing it myself, my hands were shaky.

I wasn’t sure how I was supposed to sit through dinner with everyone before the battle, I didn’t have an appetite. Colt seemed very calm about the whole thing. I’m not sure if that was supposed to be calming to me, but it made me worry even more.

Not only am I about to watch my mate, whom I’ve grown very fond of this week, fight for the first time but I’m also about to watch either him kill someone or someone kill him. What happens after the battle is just too much to think about or be concerned with.

I feel sick, and watching my Luna attire come together it all felt overwhelming. I’m still not sure how I feel about being Luna, I haven’t even talked to Colt about that yet. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath to try to calm myself.

I felt Colt staring at me so I opened my eyes to find him standing behind me. He had my headdress in his hand.

“Stop worrying baby.” he placed his hand on my shoulder, trying to calm me down.

‘I’m fine.” I lied.

‘I can feel you worrying, I can feel you’re nervous.” he gave me the eye that says I can’t lie to him.

I gave him a small smile. He placed the headdress on me.

“I know being Luna probably isn’t something you thought too much about, but you’re going to be an amazing Luna.” he rubbed my arms up and down lightly. “You might think it’s going to be scary now, but just know you have alpha in you babe, and not just when I’m in you.” he chuckled at his own joke.

It did make me laugh, I’ll give him that. I never would have thought he would be like this, hearing all the rumors about him i would have thought he was this crazy hardass all the time.

Since he was fighting tonight he just wore a pair of shorts. He took my hand and we began our walk down to the dinner. It was a peaceful walk, or would have been if not for my mind racing a million miles an hour right now. It wasn’t a super hot evening, so the birds were chirping, you could hear the squirrels all around us, and the laughter of others walking down to the dinner as well.

I could feel Colt’s emotions. He’s been so calm, I really expected his nerves to pick up once we started getting closer but he’s still just so calm. With the way Aiden has been acting about this battle it would appear as though he’s got this in the bag.

“Why aren’t you nervous Colt?” I asked.

He shrugged his shoulders, “I’m a big sky alpha, I’m a direct descendent of the original big sky alpha. Warrior is in my blood, my bones, my spirit.” he laughed, “Then the moon goddess went and mated me to another big sky alpha descendent.”

I’m not sure how I made it through dinner. We had nice dinner conversations, Jessi and Levi have been really happy getting to know each other, Keegan joined us with his new mate, though she was watching over her shoulder the whole time like she was doing something wrong. My parents were happy they got to meet her though.

Colt didn’t eat, he said it slows him down so he’ll eat later. Instead he went off with a few of his warriors to get ready for the battle.

When it was time, we started heading toward the ring. My heart raced and I felt sick. I knew this battle was going to be intense, and so did everyone else.

I sat in my seat, my parents sat with me since Colt wouldn’t be. Levi went up and announced the fighters.

“Ladies and gentlemen, tonight we have a special battle. Alpha Aiden of Crescent Moon has challenged my Alpha, Alpha Colt of Big Sky to the death.” the crowd erupted, it felt like an earthquake of cheers, boos, stomps and growls.

“The only rules for a death battle is that there will be no rounds, no interference, and no referees. There still is no full shifting, if one of them does then they will be disqualified and the battle will forcefully be brought to an end.”

Levi cleared his throat. “Welcome our fighters to the ring!” The crowd burst into claps and cheers but Big Sky burst into howls. I’ve never seen that before. My father said it’s the pack’s way of letting the alpha know they believe in him. It warmed my heart. I joined in on the howls.

Colt stood in his corner, waiting for the fight to begin. Aiden danced around hyping himself up. He came over to where I was and winked at me.

“See you tonight, baby.” he said to me loud enough that Colt could hear him.

I could feel Colt getting angry. Aiden went to his side and jumped around waiting for the fight to start.

The bell rang, the battle has begun.

They both walked up to the center and immediately Aiden swung at Colt. Colt side stepped and countered with a low punch to the ribs, you could hear the crack.

Aiden stepped back and then dove down to take out Colt’s legs, Colt landed on top of Aiden’s back and they rolled. They fought to get on top. At first it was Aiden, he got a couple punches in on Colt’s face but Colt hooked his leg around Aiden’s and flipped him over.

Colt began wailing down punches and elbows to Aiden’s face. Then Colt stood up and backed away letting Aiden get up. I’m not sure why he did that.

Once Aiden had his footing Colt stood there and taunted Aiden.

“Come on, I know you’ve got more fight in you brother. Want my pack? Want my girl? Let’s go!” It was like Colt didn’t want this to go easy, he wanted a real battle.

Aiden began shifting parts of him, his teeth and his eyes became part of his wolf.

“That’s more like it brother.” Colt said, as he also shifted his teeth.

Aiden lunged at Colt digging his teeth into his shoulder. Colt grabbed Aiden’s neck and ripped his teeth out of his shoulder throwing Aiden to the ground. Aiden turned on the ground and grabbed Colt’s ankles bringing him down.

Aiden got on top of Colt and shifted his hand to his paw and dug his claws into Colt’s side. Colt grunted as blood sprayed out of him.

“I will be f*****g your b***h tonight Colt. She’ll be my new Luna s*x slave!” he said to Colt as he tried to strangle him.

The rage I felt through Colt was indescribable. Colt laughed, and that’s when I saw his eyes. They were glowing like fire, I’ve seen that when he’s with me but I thought it was just me imagining things in the heat of the moment.

“You are no match for me, brother.” Colt easily pushed Aiden off of him and stood up. “I am a Big Sky purebred Alpha.” he growled.

Aiden tried again, he lunged and grabbed Colt’s other shoulder in his teeth and began tearing into his flesh. Blood sprayed everywhere. Colt grabbed Aiden by the back of the neck and pulled him off.

“I will kill you Colt!” he yelled at him. He brought his leg up and kicked Colt in the face, knocking him to the ground.
