The Big Sky Alpha novel Chapter 31

POV COLT

I hate lying to her. The walk back to the house felt awful. She’s deciding to trust me and here I am lying through my f*****g teeth.

I told Freya that the pack chose Jasmine as my haze partner, which was true for the first one. I chose her this time. As much as hated myself for it, I enjoyed f*****g her. She could handle me, she enjoyed it, and she was fun… in bed. Outside of it, she annoyed the hell out of me.

My other haze partners just showed up during the haze, got through the haze with the most lame sex possible just to get it done and over with. When Jasmine showed up for the first haze of that season she wanted to enjoy it. I liked that.

The pack chose her to be my mate. I’m 20 and my mate wasn’t in the pack, and our pack does not like outsiders tainting our bloodline so they chose, and if I’m being honest I think she convinced them to choose her because her bloodline is tainted and I don’t think they would have chosen her on their own.

Her mother was an outsider. Somewhere in her bloodline there was Big Sky, but it had been bred out over the centuries for the most part. The pack did not accept her mother, they treated her like she was a witch.

When Harland came to me with this offer of marriage to his daughter I was intrigued. Alpha Harland is a direct descendent from the Alpha bloodline in Big Sky, and Misty’s parents both were direct descendents from the original gammas. That would mean that the daughter was also a Big Sky Alpha descendent.

I chose Jasmine as my haze match even though I made this agreement with Harland because I figured the haze would hit during the games. I wasn’t marrying Freya until the end of the month and that’s just if she didn’t find her mate so I figured I’d at least enjoy the sex before I married someone else. I’m not proud of it.

I was marrying for power, my pack understood when I told them. Jasmine said she’d never accept me with another woman though. When I learned Freya was my fated mate and not just chosen I hoped Jasmine would accept it and move on but it became clear that she wasn’t going to back down. It seemed odd that she had stopped for a bit there, but her being with Aiden before he died when we weren’t hazing seemed off.

That woman is up to something, but I don’t want to worry Freya. Not to mention, she already feels insecure about Jasmine. Lying just seemed better than telling her that Jasmine was fun to f**k, I mean I just took Freya’s virginity for crying out loud. She’d have a hard time with that.

Thankfully, Luke was back and he brought me the oracle. We brought him to the conference room. I probably should have called the other alphas to join us but I’m too anxious especially since he’s been waiting for us.

Harland and Misty were here with Luke and Keegan. Levi and Jessi were here with me and Freya. Together we walked into this conference room to face whatever this oracle had to say.

“Thank you for coming Eunice.” I began.

He cut me off before I could continue.

“I’ve been waiting for you, you took long enough.” he said, waiving his hand in dismissal.

“Do you know what is going on with us?” I asked, as I took a breath to keep me from being too upset with the distraction tone.

“The spell is broken.” he said.

The f**k is that supposed to mean?

“The spell calming the wolf desires?” Freya asked.

That’s ridiculous, I know I said I believed that but if it were true the spell would have broken when the wolves murdered the coven thousands of years ago and they’d all be dead by now anyways.

“Yes.” Eunice said. I couldn’t believe my ears.

“Wait, the coven is dead or at the very least if they weren’t murdered they’d be dead by now. The spell would have broken ages ago.” I said. I looked around and the room was in shock, everyone looked like they’d seen a ghost. This has only ever been a story to any of us.

What does this mean? The haze is never going to end?

“Not all of the Infinity Witches were slain that day Alpha. A single witch lived on from that coven, the spell only broke when a wolf killed her six days ago.” he had to be kidding.

“That’s insane, I mean she would have been… “I stopped, just trying to wrap my head around this.

“She was two thousand three hundred years of age.” he said, finishing my thought.

That’s impossible. Even witches don’t live forever.

Freya sat next to him, “You wanted to be brought here for a reason.” she asked what I should have been asking, “Why?”

He grabbed her hands in his, “You’re all in danger, miss. You guys don’t seem to be connecting the dots.” He paused for a moment, “Or maybe you just don’t know all of the dots.” he looked at me.

“A Big Sky wolf is the only wolf that can kill an Infinity Witch.” he cleared his throat. “The goddess cannot destroy her creations so instead of destroying then she created witches to fix the mistakes she made. Those witches had to be mostly immortal, but only the goddess can actually be immortal so the witches that cast the spell against the species can only be killed by the species. Not just with wolves, vampires too.”

He paused for a moment and then a bit frustrated with the fact that we were overwhelmed by this he said “Six days ago, a Big Sky wolf killed the last of the Infinity Coven officially breaking the spell keeping wolves from becoming complete savages.”

“Then why aren’t we all acting like savages? We’ve only had a couple of instances of rape. Aside from it being more intense, it doesn’t seem like the end of werewolves.” Alpha Harland spoke up.

“It’s been suppressed for thousands of years. It’s just going to get worse.” he sighed, “If you don’t figure out how to fix this you will go ferrel. The desire will consume you, you’ll turn in each other, you’ll fight constantly, packs will be destroyed, you as civilized beings will be destroyed.”

“Eunice, do you know who did this?” I asked as I unfortunately already had a pretty good idea.

“A she-wolf. I don’t know who, but her wolf is small and black.” he answered.

Jasmine. What the hell is that crazy woman up to? Does she even understand what she’s done?

“Do you know who that might be?” Freya asked. I don’t want her any more worried than she already is but I really don’t think I can handle lying to her anymore.

“I think this is Jasmine.” I had to be honest. It’s not the end of the world if Freya doesn’t find out that I liked f*****g Jasmine, it’s not like I’d ever do it again now that Freya is my fated mate but it could be the end of wolves if I wasn’t honest about my suspicions of Jasmine.
