The Big Sky Alpha novel Chapter 35

COLT POV

I love this woman. Watching her take control of the situation and talking to Eunice about saving our species made me happy and proud. My love for her was growing every moment.

Even when she’s in pain she’s able to lead, that’s more than I ever thought I’d get in a Luna. She’s perfect. Now I just need to be patient, I have to earn her trust and forgiveness back, which I imagine will be harder to do now that I’ve broken her trust.

She gave everyone orders on what to do like she’s been doing this for years. Nevermind the fact that she was the youngest in the room, everyone listened and obeyed.

After our shower I realized that she really wasn’t going to leave me, but I still had a lot of work to do. I know I can trust my mate with everything but knowing she doesn’t feel the same way really hurts, and when I can feel her hurting it makes me wish I could go back in time.

Before we left Freya wanted to go to the kitchen and get some food. She stuffed a bag full and even got us a first aid kit.

“We’re wolves babe, we don’t need bandaids if we scrape our knees.” I chuckled.

She rolled her eyes and giggled, “It’s in case we run into an unexpected situation. We don’t know what we are walking into with this witch’s cabin.”

I smiled at her, “You’re so smart.”

Jessi and Levi were waiting for us outside the house, everyone else began heading down to the dinner and we went the other way.

“Do you mind taking Levi a little ahead of us?” Freya asked, a little shyly.

“What’s wrong?” I asked, of course immediately thinking she had an issue with Levi.

“Well…” she started, I could feel her get a little nervous and that made me start to worry. “It’s not a big deal or anything, but with everything going on I just kind of want to have some time to talk alone with Jessi.”

I laughed and she looked at me like I was a jerk and I remembered she can’t read my mind.

“I was worried something was wrong, like you didn’t like Levi or something. I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have laughed but I built up a horrible scenario in my head and it was not even close.” I leaned over and wrapped my arm around her shoulders so I could kiss her forehead.

“Of course I will, Freya. We’ll go ahead just a ways so you can still see us.” I smiled and went a little ahead.

“Hey Levi, let’s scout out ahead of the girls for a bit.” I said trying to not make it obvious that she just wants to be left alone with her friend for a while.

I looked back at her and she was smiling at me.

“So, what’s that about?” Levi asked me once we ran up a little ways.

“We’ve been through some s**t today, she just needs to vent to Jessi. She doesn’t have anyone else to talk to about the stuff between me and her.” I told him.

“Well, you might as well tell me cuz Jessi is gonna tell me anyways.” he chuckled.

I thought about it for a second, he knew everything between Jasmine and I. He’s been my beta for years, I became alpha at 16 and he’s been by my side the whole time. I’ve never been one to talk about things, but our mates are going to make it so we hear it all anyways.

“I lied to her about Jasmine.” I sighed, “Freya was a virgin until the night Jessi showed up. I just didn’t want her to hate me and I didn’t want her to feel insecure about Jasmine anymore than she was.” I was looking around and just talking with him. I’m comfortable with him and our personal crap just like she is with Jessi.

“She found out huh?” he asked but it wasn’t actually a question. After a moment he said “It’s a lot all at once for her, the feeling of betrayal will fade as you keep doing right by her.” he was right. “I know you love her, but does she know that?”

I shook my head, “I didn’t want to overwhelm her, I guess that was before today.” I laughed, “I was going to tell her before we left, we showered together. Helped me realize she wasn’t going to leave, just that I have a ton of work to do.”

“Why didn’t you?” he asked.

“Frankly, I just tried putting myself in her shoes. I would think it was a cop out for getting caught lying.” I shrugged.

We walked in silence but we could hear the girls faintly talking and giggling.

Suddenly I had this eerie feeling that someone was watching us. Levi felt it too and we both stopped walking and kept looking around. The girls must have felt it too because I felt Freya’s emotions go from happy to nervous.

When the girls got to us I grabbed her hand, and just then I heard a twig snap in the distance.

“Rogues.” Max said in my mind’s eye.

She squeezed my hand so I turned to look at her and that’s when I saw eyes.

Just a single set, that seemed odd because rogues rarely travel alone. Then I heard a snap behind me, I knew we were surrounded.

I mind linked Levi, “How many do you think?” he responded “4. We can take them.”

They started getting closer and I felt this switch in Freya’s emotions, she went from nervous to something I couldn’t put my finger on, but I felt power surge through her while I was holding her hand.

The wolf lunged at her and she ripped her hand from mine and shifted, the wolf went right over her and passed me while I shifted. I looked over and Levi and Jessi were shifting and all the wolves were all attacking.

The wolf coming for me was smaller than me and black, his eyes looked different, like there was no human left in him and he stunk. He snarled at me, I clapped my jaws back at him and he lunged at me. I stopped him in the air and threw him on the ground in front of me with my paws. Max fully took over at that point. He grabbed the wolf’s throat and ripped it out.

He looked over at Freya, who was now Stella. She was on top of the wolf grabbing the back of his neck with her teeth, she looked at Max and snapped the wolf’s neck in her mouth as she looked at him.

Max smiled watching his Luna dominate in battle. Our mates were amazing.
