COLT POV
“Colt we’re too far, they’re never going to make it home, they’re already giggling like little girls.” Levi said, while we tried to get the girls to hurry up.
When Jessi threw up I knew it was only a matter of minutes before she passed out. Rogue’s mouths are disgusting. Levi and I didn’t get bit, at least but enough for them to really sink their teeth in like they did with Jessi and Freya.
I looked over at Freya and she was sitting down. I went over to her, “Can you keep walking?” but it was hopeless, she couldn’t speak. Her face looked panicked for a second, I moved out of the way, she was going to puke.
S**t. “Levi pick Jessi up, we’re going to have to carry them back, and we need to do it fast.” I ordered.
I picked Freya up, so far she’s not burning up. I began running and she was looking at me, alert at least. When her head fell back I began to worry.
“Stay with me Freya, stay with me baby!” yelling at her was useless.
She passed out, and I picked up my pace. Levi and I ran full speed. It took about an hour, maybe to get to the pack. It felt like the longest hour of my life.
We got to the infirmary, I mind linked the pack healers when we got close enough so they were awake and ready when we got here.
They said Levi and I could leave, they’d send someone for us once they had answers or news. That wasn’t happening. They had someone bring us cots so we could stay with them.
The healers knew right away what happened and what to do. They cleaned the outside of the wounds so they could get a good look at them, then they drained them. Trying to get as much of the bacteria out as possible.
This isn’t a normal infection that’s caused by a rogue bite. It’s magic, just like all of us creations by the moon goddess. The bite has to be deep. Once the bacteria is in the body, the infection begins immediately and spreads rapidly.
I couldn’t sit or stand still. I paced up and down the little ten foot aisle.
“You’re making me nervous, Alpha.” Levi said, sitting there anxiously tapping his foot.
After another hour the healers removed the tubes draining the wounds.
“Now we wait, make sure no fever spikes up. We will come in every hour and administer an antibacterial ointment on the wounds to help.” the healer, Sasha explained then she sighed. “There was an awful lot to drain since we couldn’t get to it immediately, our fear is that we didn’t get it all.”
“What does that mean?” Levi asked, worry clear in his voice. She didn’t have to answer, I already knew.
“The infection will continue to spread and it will eventually kill them.” my voice seemed so hard and cold, but inside my heart was breaking.
I just got her, she doesn’t even know that I love her yet. Worst yet, I’d never live knowing I caused her so much pain in her final days. She shouldn’t have even been out there, fixing the problem Jasmine caused because of me.
I still had her bag with all the books and scrolls we brought back. I mind linked Jake, one of my gammas, to wake Harland and let him know what happened and then to bring me the oracle.
I ended up cancelling that last part just moments later.
“Perk of being an oracle.” Eunice said as he walked in.
“Did you not see this part?” I asked, not angry with him but actually curious.
“I don’t see everything, just what the goddess decides I should.” he answered, “I never would have sent her if I did.”
I handed him the bag.
“Most of this is in other languages neither of us could read. Some in a code, I think.” I wasn’t too sure what Levi and Jessi found. I looked over at Levi asleep on the cot next to Jessi.
“I wanted her to go for this one.” he said holding up a scroll that appeared to be written in blood. Also, looked to be in another language.
“What is it?” I asked, it’s not a language I can read.
He sat back in his seat and sighed, “As her mate, I guess you should know.” he cleared his throat and I sat beside him.
“She’s more than just an alpha decedent and Big Sky purebred, son. She’s a direct descendant of the very first alpha ever to be made by the goddess. The men in Alpha Harland’s bloodline have been granted this unique ability to transfer all of their DNA in their first born children.”
He held the scroll up to read it for a moment and he put it back into his lap. “I doubt Harland even knows, it’s something that an alpha long ago decided would harm the future. generations so he never spoke a word of it and the stories died with him.” he laughed, “but the goddess told the Infinity Coven.”
I sat there looking at her, I doubt she would have had any idea. I wonder if she’s even realized she might have abilities. I thought back on our time together, it hasn’t been enough yet and so much of it has been this stupid never ending haze.
Then I realized it’s not just going to stop for me because she’s unconscious, and it’s so strong I can’t just please myself to end it.
“What do I do about the haze, Eunice? I won’t be with anyone else ever again. How do I get through this until she’s okay?” I could hear the fear in my voice, I’m sure he heard it too.
“There’s only two ways alpha, and you’re not going to like either of them.” he answered.
I sighed, “Tell me.” I said softly, already knowing what he was going to say.
“Sleep with someone else or… ” he gulped loudly, “Lock yourself away where you can’t escape.”
I stood and walked over to her, my beautiful Freya. The woman who has shown me the beauty in life I didn’t know existed in only a few days.
He came and stood next to her bedside and put her hand in his, then his eyes turned white. They turned completely white and looked like they were glowing.
“She will bring light to this portion of the world, she will rule by your side and be the greatest Luna of all time.” he looked over at me, his eyes normal now.
“She will bring out the best of you if you let her, son.” he smiled.
I didn’t need him to tell me any of that, but he knew that already. I made my mind up before he even told me my options. I’ll never hurt this woman again, I love her.
I mind linked Jake, “Have the other gammas ready the dungeons to the south and make sure no females know what’s being done. This needs to take place now.”
Eunice smiled, fully knowing what I did. That’s when Harland and Misty walked in.
