The Big Sky Alpha novel Chapter 39

FREYA POV

I woke in a field, wildflowers in bloom everywhere with a giant full moon in the sky. In the distance I could see the glimmer of a lake. Everything was hazy, the last thing I remember was fighting rogues.

I started walking around, as beautiful as this place was it’s foreign to me. I’ve never been here before. Out of nowhere a woman dressed in white appeared at the shore of the lake.

I ran over there to find the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen. Ravishing caramel colored skin that actually looked like she was sparkling! Long dark curly hair that blew in the breeze, only I didn’t feel any wind.

She was wearing a large white gown that went to her feet, and when she walked you could see she was barefoot. She turned to me and she had the brightest blue eyes I’ve ever seen.

Her voice was even more beautiful than you could ever imagine. “I’ve waited for you a very long time, my child.”

I gulped, “I’m sorry.” she was beautiful to boot, but I felt upsetting her was not a good thing to do.

“Ummm… do-do I know you?” I asked, studdering.

She laughed and motioned her hand to walk with me.

“I am your creator, Freya.” My stomach fell to my lap, I’m dead!

She laughed again, “No, you’re not dead.” she picked up a stone and just kept walking with it in her hand. Well, at least I’m not dead.

“Wait, if I’m not dead, where am I?” I asked looking around.

“You’re in the pack infirmary, you’ll wake soon.” she said, “Right now, we are in my home. Not of your world.” she motioned out to the water, “I just love the views of some things in your world and have created places like them.”

This is amazing. I don’t understand any of it, I must be dreaming.

“Sure, you can think of it as a dream if you’d like.” she giggled.

“C-can you hear my thoughts?” I asked, holding my head like that would somehow stop it.

“I can.” she responded, so matter of factly like it was a normal thing to hear people’s thoughts. Though, I guess for her it probably is.

“Why am I here?” I finally asked.

“I brought you to me in your vulnerable state so I could help you. I’ve waited a long time for you to come to me, but you’ve not learned what you are yet.” she sat down, letting her toes sink into the wet sand just before touching the water.

“What does any of that mean?” I sat next to her, the amount of confusion I was feeling was enough to give someone a headache, but something tells me you can’t feel pain in this place. It just feels like the kind of place where the bad can’t touch you, if that makes sense.

“You are from a very special bloodline, from your father.” She skipped the stone on the glassy water. “When I created the werewolf kind there was one I created to lead all the others. I gave him abilities or powers so that he could handle any situation his wolves threw his way.”

She smiled like she was remembering something, “I loved that man, only one of my creations I ever gave my heart to.” she turned and touched my cheek. “He made me the first ever Luna.” she turned back to the water, “I became pregnant with a boy. I decided then that the child would have all of his father’s abilities and his first born child and so on.” she motioned over to me with her hand, “and you are the first born child of your father.”

I sat there for a moment pondering what she’d just told me. “How do I know what my abilities are?” I asked, actually wondering if they’re something I might have used before and just not known.

“You have.” she said, clearly reading my mind. “You’ll know the feeling when you use them. They’re similar to Alpha abilities like their command. Your abilities just stretch further, especially in combat.” she looked over at me.

“You didn’t use your abilities in your last combat, you could have taken all ten on your own.” she giggled, “but you’ll learn.”

We sat in silence for a while, “Why did you pick Colt?”

She stared into the water, “My child, you will bring out the best in him. You’re already starting to. If you knew the lengths that man would go to protect you, to save you, to make you happy…” she giggled, “Well my child, you’ll see when you wake up.”

I forgot, I’m in the infirmary. “Will I ever see you again?” I asked, knowing that our time is coming to an end.

“When you learn how to.” she smiled. I looked at the water and admired the view.

I turned to look at her and she was gone. Suddenly I felt a pulling feeling and when I blinked I woke up in the infirmary. I looked around and saw my mother sitting next to the bed reading.

“You’re awake!” she squealed. “Are you okay Freya? Do you need anything? Oh I should get your father. Oh dear… Colt…” She looked at me with concern.

“I’m fine mother, I feel great. Where’s Colt?” I asked, the way she said his name a moment ago made me worry a little bit.

“Oh sweetie, you’ve been out for two days. The haze has come and passed for everyone several times now, but Colt…” she sighed and looked down, “Let’s see what the healers say, if you’re able to go see him then I’ll have Jessi take you.”

Oh Jessi, I remembered she looked dead. “Jessi! She’s okay?” I said a little louder than I thought.

“She woke up the morning you guys came back, thankfully she didn’t have quite the wounds like you did.” I looked to where I remembered getting bit. Just little wounds now, benefits of being a shifter.

“Mom, you didn’t answer me. Is Colt okay?” I asked, my concern really growing. I was imagining the worst, he cheated or something I just knew it.

Then my dream came back to me, “If you knew the lengths that man would go to…”

“He’s… alive.” she said, clearly not wanting to tell me.

Just then word.

“She’s fine, she can go to him if she thinks she can handle it.” the healer said looking at my dad, she gave me a sympathetic look, then turned to leave.

“What the hell is going on?” I asked, feeling really frustrated that I’ve still not heard where my mate is.

“Freya..” my mother sighed, but my father held his hand up for her to stop. He grabbed my clothes and instructed me to get dressed.

“I’ll tell you along the way.” he said then told my mom to leave and he turned to go outside.

“Something’s wrong Freya.” Stella said to me.

“I know, I can’t feel him. Wherever he is, it’s not close.” I said back.
