The Big Sky Alpha novel Chapter 69

FREYA POV

I can’t believe we’re being attacked again.

Colt was hurt, he got shot. Twice! Ash said he had to take me back to the house, Colt is trying to lure them from us.

I started going with Ash without thinking. After a few steps it donned on me, I should be helping my husband. I am very exhausted, but I still managed to use my ability to put a shield around our pack. I couldn’t walk anymore though, and I have no idea how long the shield will last. Last time it lasted just over a half hour, but I wasn’t as physically depleted as I am now.

Ash grabbed my arm and started pulling me, “Forgive my Luna but move your a*s!”

“I can’t.” I stumbled to my knees.

“Can I carry you?” He asked and before I even answered he was lifting me up.

Ash, tell Colt the shield might not last as long this time. I don’t have energy.” I said trying to get the words out clear enough but not even having the strength to speak up.

Before I could make sure he heard me everything started going black. All I could hear was the yelling and screaming around me.

COLT POV

“She’s passed out Alpha. She said her energy was low the shields she put around us might not last as long as last time.” Ash mind linked me.

“Is she okay?” I asked, definitely more worried about her than myself at the moment.

“She’s okay, I think she just expelled more energy than she had. I am almost to the house with her, I’ll take her to lay down.” He answered.

“Stay with her Ash, no matter what!” I commanded.

“Won’t leave her side Alpha.” He responded.

I’m bleeding from arrows and I can’t see where they’re coming from. The good news now is they can’t hit me anymore. I shifted, Max ran toward where the arrows were coming from.

“Smells like humans.” Max told me.

What the hell would humans be doing out here? And why the hell are they picking a fight?

“I’ve got the scent.” He said.

After a moment he had one of them in his sights. They’re Natives. It can’t be Blackfeet, we have a truce with them.

Then I noticed the feather. Crow. We’ve never had an issue with this tribe. I don’t understand.

“Alpha, Eunice says it’s the Crow tribe!” Ash mind linked again.

“What do they want?” I asked as Max was heading up a tree to tackle the one he sees.

“Our land.” He said.

This makes no sense, but I surely wasn’t going to question anything Eunice says. These guys must have realized they can’t hit us with their arrows anymore because now I can see a few climbing through the trees, much how I would imagine monkeys do.

Max growled and lunged at the one in front of him before he could move away.

He knocked the man out of the tree landing right on his back. The man’s face went very pale as I realized he was trying to breathe, must have knocked the wind right out of him. Max landed on all fours just over the man.

I shifted back taking control and moved the man into the fetal position. He gasped loudly finally. I grabbed him and walked with him over to the holding cells. We would find out what they wanted, what their plan is.

“Alpha, we have collected prisoners.” One of my gammas advised through mind link.

“Holding cells. We will be interrogating.” I said.

With hardly any effort at all I dragged the man with me. He was punching and yelling the whole time but I never said a word and I never loosened my grip.

The shield was down now, Freya was right it didn’t last nearly as long. It lasted long enough to scare some of them off though, and right now that’s all we needed.

One of the omegas was standing at the cave where we had our holding cages. He opened the cell without speaking so I could throw the prisoner in. And throw I did. I tossed him in the cell like he was a small log. Humans greatly underestimate the difference of strength between a human and a wolf.

He cursed out loud as I slammed the cage door. I mind linked the pack, “No one speaks to them. If you must speak to each other in their presence mind link it.” I commanded.

The guard nodded his head.

He mind linked me, “I have called for several others to come guard with me. They will be properly looked over until you tell us what to do with them.” I nodded at him.

I left the cage without a word. I heard the man yelling, “You can’t just leave me here! What are you going to do with me?” I am going to let them all fester in their thoughts while I go make sure my wife and babies are okay.

I passed a few others with prisoners on the way, quite a few bloody. Not much can make an alpha more proud than seeing the fear in prisoners eyes.

I got to the pack house and Eunice stood quickly pointing up to our room. I walked in and Ash, who was standing by the door, punched me and immediately began apologizing.

Good punch, really caught me off guard though.

“The hell man?” I asked rubbing my cheek instantly.

“I’m so sorry alpha. F**k, I just didn’t know who it was. I haven’t heard anything from anyone other than your pack wide link but I wasn’t sure if they were still here!” He rambled continuing to apologize.

“It’s fine Ash. I’m glad you were ready to protect her if you needed.” I laughed.

Then I looked at her, sleeping on the bed.

“I watched her comfortable, but I didn’t want to over step so I placed her down and stepped away.” He said.

“Has she moved?” I asked.

“Not at all alpha. I’ve been checking on her. She’s breathing and I’ve checked her pulse on her wrist, good sleeping pulse.” He answered.

“Thank you Ash. You may go. Check on the pack, find out if there’s any casualties or damages. Find out how many prisoners there are, but no speaking around them. I want those bastards to fester.” He nodded and left, closing the door behind him.

She’s been exerting herself quite a bit lately. I just wish I had known how exhausted she was.
