The Big Sky Alpha novel Chapter 71

FREYA POV

“This is the best f*****g jerky I have ever tasted!” I said to Colt as he poured me my third glass of water.

“Just glad you’re eating my love.” He said smiling at me.

He mind linked Levi to let him know that I was awake so Jessi could know. He said he didn’t quite feel right mind linking my friend. It made me laugh, but I was again glad to know he thought of how it might make me feel. He was wrong, because I really wouldn’t mind but it was nice knowing that nonetheless.

“So…” I said with a mouth full of food, “When are you going to go beat some a*s and find out what those a**hats want with our home?”

He laughed and looked at me funny, “A**hats? I can’t say I’ve heard that one before. I’ll go down tomorrow maybe, we’ll see how you’re feeling.” He answered.

“I think you should go first thing in the morning.” I said while swallowing. I paused only long enough to down half a cup of water and shoved a bit of bread in my mouth. “You’ve waited long enough, before we know it they could be attacking again.”

“I know, I just…” he paused and looked at me then just sighed. “You’re my world and you’re carrying my world. I just want to know you’re okay.”

I sat my food down and scooted closer to him, “Baby we’re fine. But you’re Alpha, you need to make sure you’re showing your pack that they’re first. You need to find out what the hell these people want and what their plans are because the pack needs answers. Two attacks in a week time by two different groups of people, I’m sure many of them aren’t feeling very safe right now.” I kissed him softly, “Not to mention the other pack leaders that are here. Though I imagine the games are over now?” I asked.

He nodded, “Yeah they’re over. They will be leaving tomorrow. I’m actually quite glad to be rid of them. I want to enjoy the last bit of summer before we enter the fall season.” He sat there for a second just watching me.

“You’re right, I think the pack needs us both right now. In the morning I will go down with a couple men and begin interrogations. We’ll see how you’re feeling tomorrow, but I think you and I both should address the pack. My father always said a pack feels safest when the Luna is there in times of trouble. I think it has to do with some maternal thing, I don’t know really.” He smiled at me as I touched my belly when he mentioned maternal.

With the leaders leaving tomorrow I can start focusing more on my Luna duties within the pack. I’m excited to learn all about this pack and its history. I bet there’s some magical facts about this place.

There was a knock at the door and Colt got up to answer. Suddenly the door flew open and in barged Jessi.

“You b***h!” She yelled all sassy and silly. She was in a good mood.

“I finally have my mate awake and then I get here and you’re out!” She fell down on the bed next to me.

“Hey Jess I’m glad you’re home!” I said, laughing at her crazy. I love when she’s bubbly like this.

“I heard you saved the pack, twice! And you got your first kill!” She rolled her eyes, “And I missed all of it!”

“It’s nothing really, I just hope Colt can figure out more about these people so we can get through this and hopefully get some quiet time.” I went back to my food.

Suddenly I felt my stomach move, I think. I felt it again. The gestation of a wolf is much faster than a human’s, so feeling movement this early is normal. Not even a couple months and little movements can be felt by mom.

I started crying.

“Freya are you okay? Are the babies okay?” Colt rushed over.

“I f-felt th-them!” I sobbed out.

Colt sighed heavily and Jessi burst out laughing.

Pregnancy emotions are going to get the best of me, I’m sure of it!

We sat there talking, joking, and laughing for a while longer then we all headed to bed. Sleeping for days apparently didn’t stop me from being tired.

Colt lead me to the shower and we washed each other, talking about how things are going to be with these babies when they’re born. Then I realized we can start talking about names, we know there’s two and there’s a boy and a girl.

Then we play fought over who would get to choose which names. We ended up deciding he would pick the first name for the boy and the middle name for the girl. I would pick the first name for the girl and the middle name for the boy.

We talked about a couple names. He gave me the name Angus. I shot that down immediately. Cute name, but all I can think about is a burger when I hear that. I said Scarlet and he said it reminded him of a prostitute in a book he read once so that was a no.

I’m beginning to think naming two kids is going to be a whole different kind of battle for us. There may not be any blood but it might get a bit messy.

As we laid in bed together I tangled myself up in his arms and legs feeling utterly content. I could feel his happiness, and I knew I was happy. Sleep somehow came nice and easy for the both of us tonight.
