The Big Sky Alpha novel Chapter 89

COLT POV

“What’s going on?” I asked Sasha. I could tell by the look on her face that her concern was growing.

Sasha asked Misty to take Hunter from Freya. “We’re going to have to get the second one out. “She said in a hurried tone.

“What does that mean?” I asked. “What’s going on? Is she okay?” No one was answering me. For a moment I was feeling like maybe I was only asking in my head until I heard a very faint Freya voice.

“It’s going to be okay Colt. Take care of them, no matter what happens just know that I love you.”

As the reality of what was being said hit me, Harland was holding me. Really, he was dragging me away. I protested, “I can’t leave her! What the f**k is going on?” I ripped my arms away from Harland and was met with more than just his hands now. I know Levi and Ash were trying, but they couldn’t contain me. I couldn’t understand why they were pulling me away. What the hell were they doing to my wife?

Harland stood in front of me forcing me to look at him, “Stop fighting son. You don’t want to be in here for this part.” He made me stay facing him but I looked over and could see Sasha pick up the blade. They are going to cut the baby out!

“No! No don’t do it!” I yelled.

Harland tried to Alpha command me to stop, but it didn’t work.

When I heard Freya scream in pain as she dug the blade into her I lost it. Max came out within a second, I no longer had control. Before I could reach the bed my screaming and bloody wife was laying in, my ability to move was stopped. I was frozen. I couldn’t shift back, Max couldn’t howl or growl or fight. I realized that Belladonna spelled me. All I could do was stand there in Max’s body and watch as they surgically cut into my wife’s stomach while she was fully awake and could feel everything. Her blood curdling scream echoing through my body to my soul.

Now that they weren’t focused on me, her dad and Belladonna were performing healing on her. Sasha pulled out my daughter, within seconds I could hear her crying. Belladonna came to me and asked, “Will you shift back and behave so you can hold your daughter?” I couldn’t answer her, but she knew. She released the spell and I immediately shifted back. Sasha placed my baby girl in my arms after she wrapped her in a blanket.

While Sasha tended to Freya, and her dad and Belladonna performed their healing on her, I sat over beside Freya and introduced her to our daughter. Freya was barely holding on, I could sense it.

My heart was so full of love at this moment but at the same time I’ve never felt so much pain in my life. I looked Freya in the eyes and though her skin was pale as a ghost her eyes were still the brightest emeralds and the love she felt for me and our babies was as clear as daylight.

I kissed my beautiful wife, I could feel how weak she was, I could feel how scared she was, I could feel how powerless she was in that moment. I never would have given a woman being medically tended to in such a manor a baby, but I handed my daughter to my wife anyways and let my wife feel what it was like to hold both of her babies before she died.

I could see the light leaving her eyes, the shimmering emeralds dimmed down to shells of emptiness.

Harland grabbed Kira from Freya as Sasha continued to work on my wife’s lifeless body.

My heart split in two, my soul ripped in half. I screamed out in a pain I couldn’t bare. It felt like every fiber of my being was being brutally torn away piece by piece.

I could hear Belladonna mumbling words to a spell, I could see Harland trying desperately to perform his healing ability.

As I sat there looking at my beautiful sweet Freya everything went dark, and in the blink of an eye I suddenly felt like I was somewhere else.

I was at a lake, I think. It was a full moon out, though I distinctly remember it being sunny in our bedroom just a moment ago when I was looking at Freya’s body.

“She’s a wonderful woman, your wife.” I heard a very angelic sounding voice from beside me. I turned and saw a woman I’ve never seen before. Beautiful woman, her skin looked like it was glowing.

“Who are you?” I asked in a bit of a rude tone, I guess I just felt surprised maybe even a bit out of place given that my surroundings just changed. Frankly, everything felt numb right now.

“I created you, my dear. All of you. Freya is one of my favorites. She has a lot of growing to do, but she’s going to be amazing.” She said, smiling out at the water in front of us.

I realized I was in the presence of the goddess. I really wanted to be surprised, happy, something! But my body wouldn’t let me. Everything just felt numb.

“Don’t worry Colt, I understand.” She placed her hand on me. “You’ve just lost a part of you, your body can’t feel anything else right now. I’ll send you back to be with her shortly, but I need to give you instructions first.” She waved her hand and a blanket appeared. A white glowing blanket.

“After I sent belladonna I realized she wouldn’t be enough and I’m not ready for Freya’s story to end. So I crafted a blanket out of my feathers.” She said.

I looked at her up and down, ” Umm, what feathers?” I asked since she just looked like a person, she didn’t look like she had anything other than her skin and hair.

She laughed and then she shifted herself into a beautiful white owl. Nothing I have ever seen before or even heard of before. Her wings were fluffy and large, the way they flapped as she hovered in the sky above me was hypnotizing. She slowly shifted back to the woman I was speaking with before.

She handed me the blanket and said, “I’ve never done this and I’m not entirely certain how it will work but place this blanket on her, cover her whole body, and the rest shall come.”

I wanted to ask her more, I needed to ask her more but before I could I just blinked. Then there I was, sitting there looking at my poor wife lying there lifeless. I looked around and it looked like no time passed at all, but I now was holding a glowing white blanket in my hands.

Everyone stopped in their tracks and looked at me.

“Will it work?” Harland asked, very well knowing the goddess just pulled me away to give this to me, she’s done it to him before.

I unfolded it and covered Freya’s body entirely like she said, “I guess we will find out.”
