After politely turning Robin down, Leeanne headed over to the trading hall. She checked it out one more time before heading back to the chat channel.
Seeing all the chaotic messages, she was momentarily stunned.
She scrolled back through the chat history to figure out what was going on.
Leeanne thought, ‘Why waste time arguing? Wouldn’t it be way better to just grab some trading goods while they’re still up for grabs?‘
Leeanne messaged: [Everyone, stop arguing. There are tons of supplies in the trading hall right now. Hurry up and go treasure hunt before all the good stuff gets snatched up.]
Emmett: [For real? There are treasures? Don’t lie to me.]
Leeanne sighed. [With nearly a hundred thousand people here, how could there not be treasures?]
Robin had actually been lurking in the chat channel the whole time. He knew exactly who Leeanne was, so when she was searching for millet, he jumped at the chance to help out. He wanted to win her favor.
But just now, one of his guys tipped him off that Leeanne was pretty close with Rodger and Danelle. Robin immediately felt a bad vibe. His chances of getting on her good side were pretty much shot.
So when Max started stirring up trouble, Robin just stayed quiet and watched the drama. He wanted to see how popular Leeanne really was in District 33.
He also wanted to see if his own crew could sway the conversation in their favor.
Now that Leeanne had spoken up, it would look weird if he kept pretending he hadn’t seen anything.
So Robin quickly chimed in: [Yeah, I was just hanging out in the trading hall and totally missed all the messages. We’re all in the same district now, so no more arguing. Hurry and go treasure hunting in the trading hall.]
With the topic changed, everyone stopped arguing, and lots of folks rushed over to the trading hall.
Suddenly, Leeanne got a private message from Danelle. [Leeanne, Robin’s not a good guy. Don’t let him fool you. Robin is actually the author of Night’s End.]
Leeanne replied: [Wait, it’s him?]
‘No wonder I felt something was off about Robin, Leeanne thought. ‘So he’s that guy after all.
‘Now it makes sense. Myron must’ve helped Robin with the voting earlier. But how did they get in touch? Maybe they have some kind of communication item.’
Leeanne actually got it right.
Danelle: [Leeanne, come join our family group chat. My cousin Alina is from District 34 and knows Robin pretty well. Let her fill you in.]
With that, Danelle added Leeanne to the group.
Leeanne checked out the group members. There were five people in it: Rodger, Danelle, Alina, Spike, and Ellery.

They were all from the Spangler family.
Danelle: [Alright, I’ve added Leeanne to the group.]
Spike: [So you’re Leeanne. Danelle’s always talking about you. You’re really awesome.)
Ellery: [Hey, Leeanne.]

Rodger: [Well, Spike’s eighteen and Ellery’s nineteen. They’re both in college and a little slow sometimes. Leeanne, cut them some slack.]
Spike: [Hey, I’m not slow.]
Danelle: [You almost got played to death. You still think you’re not slow? If Alina hadn’t looked out for you, you’d be done for. If she hadn’t opened that chest on the island and found the Revitalizing Pill and healing salve, you would’ve died.]
Ellery: [Alright, I messed up.]
Alina: [Okay, let’s not embarrass ourselves in front of Leeanne. Hi, Leeanne. Let me fill you in about Robin.]
Alina quickly explained what had happened before, and Leeanne finally got it. Her work had suddenly shot up in the rankings thanks to Alina’s help. She also found out about Robin’s rough ending.
Robin didn’t win first place in the survival competition, and he ended up owing a bunch of people wood. He was really down bad at the time.
But during the island hunt, he somehow ended up with a ton of wood and nails. He actually paid everyone back and managed to patch up his reputation a bit.
He saved a lot of people during the hunt, but ended up killing quite a few in the process. In the end, he somehow snagged first place in the District 34 island hunt.
Alina warned: [Robin’s stronger than me now, Leeanne. He’s super sneaky, so you’d better keep your guard up.]
The rewards for being top place were pretty awesome. Besides the Invincible Suit, there was also a boost to one’s stats. With all that, Robin’s power level shot past Alina’s.
Because he saved many people in the hunt, Robin still had a bunch of loyal followers.
Leeanne thanked Alina for the information, and despite Danelle and the others asking her to stay, she left their group chat.
This was the Spangler family’s group, and she felt out of place there.
After leaving the group chat, Leeanne headed back to the trading hall and searched again for millet and chicken feed, but still came up empty–handed.
In her private messages, she noticed William had sent her some supplies.
William had split the loot he got from the island hunt with Leeanne. It was mostly wood, iron, animal hides, and meat.
This time, William only managed to score a bunch of common stuff, but at least he got a ton of it.
She also got a private message from Anthony.
Anthony: [You’re looking for millet and chick feed, right? Are you trying to feed baby chicks? If so, corn mush can work in a pinch.]

‘Corn mush?‘ Leeanne wondered.
Suddenly, it hit her. She actually had some corn.
All she had to do was grind it up, and she’d have corn mush.

She only had some fuzzy memories of helping her grandparents feed baby chicks, so she’d completely forgotten about using corn.
Leeanne quickly thanked Anthony.
She took out some corn, crushed it up with a wooden stick until it was nice and fine, then soaked the crushed corn in hot water until it softened into mush. Once it was ready, she brought it over for the chicks to eat.
Watching the chicks peck at the corn mush one by one, Leeanne finally felt relieved.
But Anthony had said that corn mush was just a stopgap. If she wanted the chicks to grow up healthy, she’d still need to find some real chicken feed, and millet was a must.
Leeanne made a mental note. She still needed to buy or trade for millet and chicken feed.
Earlier, everyone had been busy scouring the trading hall, but now it was seven in the evening, dinner time, so there’d probably be more folks hanging out in the chat channel now.
So she posted in Local Chat again: [Is there anyone selling millet or chick feed?]
Emmett was amused. [Leeanne, even you can’t get everything you want, huh? You’ve been asking for it again and again. Looks like you’re getting pretty anxious.]
Leeanne: [Why are you always so chatty?]
‘Does Emmett ever do anything besides camp out in the chat channel?‘ Leeanne wondered. ‘Seriously, he’s always here, every single time.”
Suddenly, a guy named Enrique Atwood messaged: [Leeanne, I have some millet. I’ve already sent it your way.]
Emmett was stunned. [For free?]
Everyone else in the chat channel was floored.
[Is Leeanne really that well–liked? People just hand her stuff for nothing?]
[Wait, who’s Enrique? I’ve never seen him before. He’s not from District 33, is he?]
[Enrique’s from District 35, and he’s not known for being kind. He just got here in District 33 and probably doesn’t even know Leeanne. So why would he hand over millet, which is pretty hard to come by, for free? How odd. What’s Leeanne’s deal?]
[Leeanne? I remember her. Wasn’t she the one who grabbed the first kill reward?]
[Well, let me explain. Leeanne is the top dog in District 33, basically our district’s goddess.]
Everyone was talking at once in the chat channel, and after a moment, Emmett suddenly sent a message. [I know what’s going on.]
