Chapter 221

Leeanne sat on a rock, clear water swirling around her feet. Two little blue–legged crabs were scrapping on the stone, poking and kicking each other like a couple of rowdy kids.
She overheard their squabble.
“Dummy, beat it!” one crab barked.
“No, you beat it! I found this first, and my whole family’s about to show up,” the other crab shot back.
‘Oh, you wanna call your family? Fine, I’ll call mine, too!” the first crab retorted.
‘Pfft! Hey, hey! What’s that thing? It’s snatching our loot!” one of the crabs suddenly yelled.
Leeanne was so caught up in listening to the little crabs that to anyone else, she looked like she was spacing out.
The kitten sauntered over with its usual swagger. “Can’t find your treasure, huh? Bet you feel stupid now. Why don’t you just…”
Leeanne cut her off, “Shh!”
She was so focused on the crabs that she didn’t even hear what the kitten was saying.
She finally caught the most important part of their conversation.
Ah! Someone’s stealing our treasure!” one crab shouted.
Damn, it’s the culprit! It made us fight so it could snatch our loot!” the other crab yelled.
Call your family. Let’s beat it up. How dare it steal the Swiftwing Fruit!” the first crab shouted.
Swiftwing Fruit?‘ Leeanne wondered.
She watched as the two little crabs dashed into the water. Without a second thought, she slapped on her breathing mask and love in after them.
Following the slope of the rock wall, she quickly caught up to the little crabs.
She spotted a bunch of blue–legged crabs swarming around a fluffy white shape.
These crabs were huge, each about 2 feet across, with long blue legs and massive claws that looked like steel blades, glinting with a deep, unsettling sheen. They were kind of creepy.
They were yelling insults as they ganged up on that white thing.
The white shape was mobbed by the swarm of crabs, and Leeanne had no clue what it was.
All she could see was the info on the blue–legged crabs: [Tier 2 Mutated Blue Crab] [Tier 1 Blue Crab).
The crabs were shouting angrily. “Who’s this wild brat, trying to trick us? Let’s tear it apart with our pincers.”
“Snatch the Swiftwing Fruit back.”
“Finish it off! Let’s eat some meat.”

“Damn it! We got played by some punk. I’m furious. Save its head for me. I’ll kick it around like a ball.”
“Meat! Meat!”
“Kick it! Kick it!”
Suddenly, a voice cried out, “Help!”
‘Wait, that’s Little Seal,‘ Leeanne thought.
Little Seal had snatched the Swiftwing Fruit.

Leeanne’s expression hardened. She whipped out her Harpoon Launcher and pulled the trigger. With a loud bang, the harpoon slammed right into a crab’s belly.
The big crab thrashed a few times, then died.
Leeanne yanked the harpoon back and fired again and again, killing several more blue crabs in rapid succession.
The crabs freaked out and scattered in all directions.
“What is that thing? Call Grandpa. Call Grandpa.”
“My brother’s dead. Screw it, let’s go all out.”
“Grandpa’s here. We’re not scared anymore.”
Leeanne looked up and saw a massive crab charging straight at her, its pincers glowing dark blue.
[Tier 3 Mutated Blue Crab.]
Tier 3 mutation? That’s on par with that great white shark from before, Leeanne thought, her heart skipping a beat.
Last time, taking down that great white shark was tough as hell. She only managed it by rushing to the surface and getting Little Blue and Snowy to help.
‘Should I bail?‘ she wondered.
But Little Seal was clutching a pile of loot, surrounded by a swarm of blue crabs.
Leeanne thought, I’m pretty sure Little Seal is holding the Swiftwing Fruit. If I run now, what about the Swiftwing Fruit?‘
Leeanne stepped back and fired her harpoon. With a loud bang, the harpoon shot out, but the Tier 3 blue crab snapped it right out of the water with its pincers.
‘Damn, this thing is fast, Leeanne thought, her heart pounding.
She yanked the harpoon back and fired again and again, but each time, the Tier 3 blue crab batted the harpoons away with its pincers and legs.
The blue crab’s only weak spots were its belly and eyes. Everywhere else was basically impenetrable, like solid steel. The harpoon didn’t stand a chance.
Leeanne was getting anxious.
The blue crab was already closing in, brandishing its massive pincers menacingly.

Feeling helpless, she decided to escape to the surface for now.

Leeanne shot up to the surface, but the Tier 3 blue crab didn’t even bother chasing her. It turned around and headed back.
She heard Little Seal yelling, “It’s mine! No way, I’m not giving it up.”
‘Swiftwing Fruit!‘ Leeanne thought, her heart pounding.
She dove right back in, skipping the Tier 3 blue crab and going after the Tier 1 and Tier 2 ones.
“Bang, bang, bang!” Wherever her harpoon hit, the blue crabs scattered like crazy.
The Tier 3 blue crab got pissed and came charging again. Leeanne waved at Little Seal, signaling it to make a break for it.
But Little Seal clung to its haul and wailed even louder.
Its cries kept rising. “Crab! Eat crab!”
‘Seriously? It still wants to eat crab?‘ Leeanne thought, feeling both helpless and amused.
The Tier 3 blue crab was already barreling toward her, so Leeanne spun around and made a run for it. Suddenly, she caught sight of a long, drifting ribbon in the water.
A white one.
Before Leeanne could even react, that white ribbon suddenly lashed out and coiled around the Tier 3 blue crab chasing her.
Then a bunch more ribbons came flying, wrapping the crab up tight.
Leeanne spotted a gigantic squid.
Turns out those ribbons were actually the squid’s tentacles.
Talk about backup,’ Leeanne thought, grinning to herself.
Without a second thought, she pulled the trigger, and the harpoon shot out, slamming right into the Tier 3 blue crab’s belly.
It was right where the squid’s tentacles had missed.
She yanked the harpoon back, and a chunk of flesh was hooked on the tip.
The blue crab was immobilized, so it was basically at her mercy.
The squid realized something was up. With a quick flick of its tentacles, it shoved the blue crab right into its mouth.
Leeanne was silent.
‘Seriously? It even snatched my kill, she thought, feeling a bit annoyed.
Once the Tier 3 blue crab died, the rest of the blue crabs scattered, crying as they ran.
Leeanne hurried over, scooped up Little Seal, and darted up to the surface,
She placed Little Seal on the rocky reef.
Little Seal called out to the sea, “Hey, thanks, buddy.”

Leeanne asked, “That squid was your friend?”
Little Seal replied, “Yes.”

Leeanne was taken aback. ‘So that’s why Little Seal didn’t run. It was waiting for its friend to show up, she thought.
Leeanne eyed the bundle in Little Seal’s arms with a greedy glint. “What’s that you’ve got? Let me take a look.”
Little Seal spread its flippers, showing off several green twigs, each dotted with a few yellow fruits about the size of hawthorn berries.
Leeanne pulled up the description.
[Swiftwing Fruit: Spiritual fruit. Eating it permanently increases Agility by 2 points. Only works once. No extra benefit from eating more.]
Just as I thought, this is it, Leeanne thought, her eyes lighting up with excitement.
Leeanne stared at Little Seal, practically bouncing with excitement. “Hey, Little Seal, where’d you pick these Swiftwing Fruits?”
Little Seal tossed one into its mouth and pointed underwater. “Right there.”
‘Wait, it’s underwater?‘ Leeanne thought, surprised.
‘No wonder I couldn’t find it. It’s in the submerged part of Coral Island,’ she realized.
Just as Little Seal was about to throw another fruit into its mouth, Leeanne quickly stopped it. “Don’t eat any more. Eating more won’t help you at all.”
Little Seal whined, “But I’m hungry.”
Leeanne pulled out a basket of strawberries. “You can have these instead.”
Little Seal stared at her with big, round eyes. “Shrimp. I want shrimp.”
Leeanne was silent.
She thought for a moment, sent a message to Maeve asking her to send over some Blue Phosphorus Shrimps, then turned to Little Seal. “Deal, I’ll swap you some Blue Phosphorus Shrimps for your fruit. How many do you have? Show me.”
Little Seal loosened its grip, and Leeanne counted. There were only four fruits left.
It looked like there were five Swiftwing Fruits to start with. Little Seal already ate one, so there were four left.
Leeanne said, “How about I trade you a Blue Phosphorus Shrimp for these fruits? Sound good?”
She heard a scornful “Meow.”
Turning around, she spotted the kitten perched on the rock, staring at her with a face full of contempt.
‘Talk about expressive, Leeanne thought.
