Chapter 52

Leeanne and the snake locked eyes for less than a minute before the black–scaled python finally snapped. It launched itself into the air, lunging straight at Leeanne.

As soon as the python moved, Leeanne whipped up her soft whip with her right hand, cracking it loudly and aiming right for the snake’s neck, the spot that could take it down.

At the same time, she raised her dagger in her left hand, thrusting it toward the snake’s head as it lunged at her.

The whip cracked, but missed the python’s vital spot, just struck its body instead.

Leeanne heard a wet squelch as her dagger pierced flesh.

Scoring a direct hit, Leeanne bolted down the mountain and stopped a short distance away, keeping a close eye on the black–scaled python.

The python let out a piercing hiss, coiling itself tightly around a nearby pine tree. Its tail thrashed wildly, sending pine needles flying everywhere.

A thin line of blood streamed from its eye, and the gash on its body was even deeper now, about a few inches, with raw flesh showing.

Leeanne’s dagger had stabbed its right eye, and the whip had hit the same spot that had just been stabbed.

Maybe it couldn’t see with one eye, or maybe the pain was just too much. Either way, the black–scaled python gave up the chase and just wrapped itself around the pine tree, hissing in pain.

Leeanne thought, ‘No wonder the whip and dagger are considered top–tier and rare–grade weapons.

Leeanne gripped her whip and dagger, taking a few steps further up the mountain.

The python finally seemed to notice her, uncoiling from the pine tree and lunging straight at her.

But it was moving much slower than before, probably because it was badly hurt.

Leeanne snapped her whip, nailing the python right on its weak spot.

The python shrieked, thrashing and rolling a few times before it finally went limp.

‘Did I kill it? Leeanne thought, a little uncertain.

Leeanne hung back for a moment, and when the python didn’t budge, she finally stepped closer

As she happened to glance down the cliff, she spotted a dark hole hidden among wild grass in a rock crevice.

The snake had come up from beneath the cliff, so its lair was likely hidden somewhere on the cliff.

This was a second–order mutant beast, smart enough to protect rare herbs. There might be some treasure in its lair,

‘Let’s check it out!‘ Leeanne decided on the spot.

The cave was about a few feet away from the old pine tree. The cliff face was rough and uneven, with plenty of rocky outcrops. Right below the cave, there was a big ledge, so it didn’t look too dangerous.

That was exactly why Leeanne chose to climb down.

She never rushed into anything, always made sure she was fully prepared before taking action.

She could free up two slots by drinking her water and eating the strawberries. If she equipped her quiver, horn bow, and dagger instead of keeping them in the pack, that’d open up three more slots.

That should keep her going for a while longer.
