Lecanne thought for a moment, then gestured with her hands and pointed at the badly injured baby monkey. “I’m here to heal your little one!”
As soon as she pointed at the baby, the monkeys got even angrier, screeching and howling in outrage.
Some of them even grabbed sticks, shooting Leeanne death stares like she was their worst enemy.
Leeanne had no choice but to back away.
She was here for a mission, not to brawl with monkeys.
She gave it a few more tries, but the monkeys still kept her at bay, refusing to let her get close.
Feeling helpless, Leeanne stepped back a few paces, keeping her distance as she kept watching them.
The mother monkey cradled her baby, her eyes full of sorrow as she whimpered softly, gently trying to rouse the little one.
But the baby monkey just blinked at her, its tiny arm dropping weakly to the side.
Leeanne’s heart raced with anxiety. If this little monkey died, her quest would be doomed.
The mother monkey glanced at her baby, then gently set it down in front of a rock, propping it up against the stone. She got up and headed toward the pear tree.
The other monkeys looked pretty displeased, grumbling and shifting around restlessly.
But the mother monkey still reached out and picked a pear from the tree.
“You bastard!” Suddenly, a sassy, girlish shout rang out as the red–billed blue magpie came flying back.
It flapped its wings, snatched the pear in its beak, and with a swipe of its claws, scratched and drew blood from the mother monkey’s ear.
It wolfed down the pear in two bites, then perched on a branch and started cussing out the monkeys.
Leeanne noticed it only had a handful of lines. It said, “You bastard. Ugly freak. Idiot. Touch me again and see what happens!”
It just kept spitting out the same insults on repeat.
Leeanne thought, Wow, it only knows a couple of insults?
‘Man, it’s so aggressive.
‘Such a dirty mouth for such pretty feathers. What a shame!
The monkeys got chewed out mercilessly, but all they could do was stomp their feet and pound their chests in useless fury. none of them dared to lift a finger.
Each of them had a few scratches and bite marks, and it was clear that the red–billed blue magpie had done it.
Leeanne shook her head. Most of these monkeys were just first or second rank, but with so many of them, they should’ve been able to handle that magpie.

How did they end up getting bisonied like this?‘ she wondered.
The way the mother monkey was eyeing that pear, desperate for a taste, made Leeanne’s mind start turning.
‘Maybe this is my way in, Leeanne thought to herself.

After thinking it over, she slung her quiver onto her back, grabbed her horn bow, secured her whip at her side, and leapt boldly out into the open.
In one smooth motion, she drew her bow, nocked an arrow, and let it fly, her shot streaking straight for the red–billed blue magpie’s tail.
She couldn’t bring herself to aim for its head. It was just too beautiful, so she held back.
“Holy crap!” the red–billed blue magpie squawked, flapping its wings wildly as it shot up into the air, narrowly dodging the
arrow.
It spotted Leeanne and started hurling insults at her. “You…“”
Leeanne didn’t give it a chance to breathe. She nocked and fired two more arrows in rapid succession, pulling off a three- shot combo.
Three shots in a row was the most she could manage with her current skills.
The red–billed blue magpie didn’t even have time to finish cursing. It flapped and spun through the air, barely dodging the second and third arrows.
Leeanne stayed silent, relentlessly nocking another arrow, ready to fire again.
The red–billed blue magpie got spooked and squawked, “You… Damn it, that’s playing dirty. No honor!”
With a dramatic sweep of its long, beautiful tail feathers, it bolted, darting away as fast as it could.
Leeanne was taken aback for a second, then couldn’t help but let out a laugh.
This red–billed blue magpie, seriously, such a filthy mouth, but turns into a total coward when things get real, she thought.
Now that it saw the tables had turned, it wasn’t nearly as fierce as before.
She put away her bow and arrows, strode up to the tree, and without a second thought, stripped most of the pears off the
branches.
She packed them all into her backpack, leaving just one slot free.
With that golden–yellow pear in hand, Leeanne turned to look at the monkeys.
The monkeys stared at her with big, round eyes, some scared, some curious, and all of them suspicious.
Leeanne pointed at the injured baby monkey, then tossed the pear over to the mother monkey
The mother monkey caught the pear, froze for a second, then hesitantly handed it to her baby, never taking her wary eyes off Leeanne.
The wounded baby monkey took the pear, weakly brought it to its mouth, took a small bite, and gave Leeanne a weak, pitiful squeak.

Its voice was so faint, you could barely hear it.

After Leeanne handed over the pear, the monkeys became a bit friendlier, but they still huddled together, watching her with
eager, wary eyes.
Leeanne glanced up at the sun. It was getting late. She needed to finish her mission fast.
She picked a few more pears from the tree and tossed them to the rest of the monkeys.
The monkeys caught the pears and started munching away, finally letting their guard down around Leeanne.
Leeanne took out some healing salve and gestured toward the baby monkey.
The mother monkey looked a little lost at first, but then suddenly understood and nodded hard.
Being a second–rank beast with some intelligence, it was able to recognize what the healing salve was meant for.
Leeanne held the healing salve and edged closer to the mother monkey. Finally, she gently dusted the salve over the baby monkey’s injuries.
The baby monkey was in bad shape, a nasty slash across its belly and another wound slashed through its waist. But as soon as Leeanne applied the salve, the blood stopped flowing in an instant.
In just five minutes, the wounds were already closing up, and the little guy perked right up, even tried to grab Leeanne’s ponytail.
The monkeys were absolutely ecstatic, swarming around Leeanne and chattering nonstop.
Leeanne instinctively backed away.
The monkeys swarmed around her, grabbing her arms and pulling her toward the tree.
Confused but curious, Leeanne let them lead her, only then did she spot a hollow hidden on the far side of the tree.
