“What’s up?” Danelle leaned over for a closer look. “Whoa, this person actually hid their server and name? Dang, they’ve got a ton of votes!”

“The votes are shooting up so fast. Are they getting people to vote for them?” Rodger muttered.

“Getting people to vote? Oh, that’s right!” Danelle’s eyes sparkled. “We can totally do that too!”

“Forget about all that for now. Come have some coffee!” Leeanne called out.

As long as they completed the quest, the rewards would blow anything from the Quality of Life Contest out of the water.

Everyone stayed busy.

With the coffee room ready, it was time to get the supplies for brewing coffee.

Danelle spread out a heat–resistant mat on the table and set the portable stove on top.

Leeanne prepared some smokeless charcoal, put it into the stove, lit it with a lighter, and then placed the iron grate over it.

Rodger had already washed the white ceramic coffee pot, filled it most of the way with water, sprinkled in some coffee leaves, and put it on the stove to brew slowly.

Danelle brought over some roasted melon seeds, setting out two plates, one with salty sunflower seeds and the other with caramel–flavored ones.

Leeanne headed to the storage shed and grabbed a few wild tangerines Danelle had given her, some read fruits William had brought, the pears she’d just picked up, and a handful of chestnuts and peanuts William had shared.

Everyone had stuffed themselves earlier, so nobody was really hungry now, maybe just nibbling on some seeds. She only took a little, just enough to save some for planting later.

She just tossed everything into the wooden bowl Rodger had given her and set a few out by the stove.

Finally, she sliced up half a watermelon and laid the pieces on a plate, then grabbed a basket of strawberries. With all that, the table was packed again.

Danelle and the others were already settled in.

The panda cub, Fluffy, loved being where the crowd was. Spotting Leeanne and the gang hanging out together, she waddled

over and tried to clamber onto the bench in the hut.

But she was just too small and too chubby, just a fluffy ball that kept trying but just couldn’t make it up there. Danelle couldn’t help but squeal at how adorable she was and scooped her right up into her arms.

Leeanne went back to the storage shed and grabbed seven or eight tender bamboo stalks, laying them out on the bench for Fluffy to munch on.

“Whoa, Leeanne, you’ve got bamboo too?” Danelle exclaimed, her eyes lighting up

Rodger perked up. “Hey, Leeanne, got any thicker bamboo?”

“Yep,” Leeanne replied, and with a wave, she brought out a bamboo stalk about four inches thick..

Rodger’s eyes lit up. “Hold on, everyone. I can turn this into some plates.”

Rodger and William hauled the thick bamboo off to the side, and soon came back with a bunch of smooth bamboo plates.

Once everything was in place, wisps of steam were already rising from the white ceramic coffee pot.

The water was bubbling and the coffee was steeping.

Danelle set the chestnuts and peanuts right by the stove to roast nice and slow.

“Hey, maybe we should have some roasted sweet potatoes?” Leeanne said.

She had a ton of sweet potatoes. After all, this gathering was not complete without them.

Danelle shouted, “Yes. Roasted sweet potatoes are my absolute favorite!”

Leeanne grabbed several of the smaller sweet potatoes and set them by the stove to roast.

Danelle looked at the table packed with food and the brazier surrounded by treats, groaning as she rubbed her belly. “Man, I really shouldn’t have eaten so much earlier.

“Now my stomach’s totally stuffed. What am I supposed to do?”

Leeanne’s eyes lit up. “Should we grab some hawthorns to help with digestion?”

Danelle and Rodger both raised their hands in agreement.

All three of them jumped into the Local Chat at once.

Leeanne: [Buying hawthorns. Will trade for water or food!]

Danelle: [Anyone got hawthorns? Hit me up for a private trade!]

Rodger: [Buying hawthorns!]

When all three started asking for hawthorns at the same time, it immediately grabbed everyone’s attention.

Emmett: [Rodger, Danelle, Leeanne, what do you need hawthorns for?]

Danelle: [Well, I’m so stuffed…]

Emmett: [If you’re that full, just walk it off. Why bother with hawthorns?]

Danelle: [I still wanna eat!]

Emmett was speechless.

Danelle was so over the top, nobody could ignore her.

A person wrote: [See? Whenever they hang out with Leeanne, they always end up stufted!]

Another wrote: [Seriously, did you see all those meat skewers on the table carlier? There was so much food, and it all looked amazing. No wonder they’re stuffed!]

Someone wrote: [Stop talking about it, or I won’t be able to sleep tonight!

Someone else wrote: [Leeanne, I’m your long–lost brother! Forget about getting hawthorns for Danelle, just give me the leftovers.]

The chat was a total mess, everyone just joking around, but not a single person mentioned hawthorns.

Mick finally lost his patience watching the chat.

Mick: [The Quality of Life Contest has been running for an hour already, and it ends at noon. And some people are still just focused on eating? Seriously, how lame is that?]

Myron saw Mick’s message and couldn’t help but give him a kick. “Dude, why are you reminding them? What if they actually remember? I’ve been holding back on asking for votes all this time!”

Mick shot back, “Who cares if they remember? Our entry totally rocks!”

Myron couldn’t be bothered with his idiot brother.

Just those meat skewers Leeanne and the crew whipped up earlier would crush their entry by a mile. ‘How can Mick be so out of touch?‘ Myron thought.

Since Mick had already brought it up, Myron figured he might as well go all in and start asking for votes.

So Myron posted in the chat. [We’ve already uploaded our entry. Entry ID 5443, titled “A Good Life.” Please vote for us!]

Mick: [Yeah, if we win, it’ll make District 33 look awesome!]

He even dropped a link right there.

When one clicked it, it showed a snapshot of the scene.

They were in a wooden gazebo.

Myron, Mick, and another guy were sitting on wooden chests, with a makeshift table made out of four chests in front of

them.
