Chapter 88
Hale gripped a massive iron bow, nocked an arrow, and with a sharp twang, sent an iron arrow hurtling toward Emmet.
Emmett scrambled, rolling and crawling to dodge.
Leeanne had already whipped out her horn bow, snatched up three arrows, and fired them in rapid succession.
The first arrow collided with the iron arrow with a crisp sound, deflecting it so it veered off and crashed to the ground.
The second and third arrows streaked straight for Hale’s face and chest.
Hale’s expression changed, and with a swift twist of his body, he dodged them all.
“Leeanne, are you meddling again?” Hale’s expression darkened as he lowered his head and muttered something under his breath.
Emmett had crawled over to Leeanne and shouted, “He’s calling his crew, Leeanne, stop him!”
He panted as he said, “His guys are right there in the woods next to us.”
Behind Hale was a thick forest.
Leeanne shot a glance, nocked three Arrows quickly, while Hale nocked three iron arrows of his own. The two stood off against each other from a distance.
Leeanne shot without a second thought.
Hale shot his iron arrows right back.
The six arrows crashed into each other midair with a rapid burst of pops, then tumbled to the ground.
Meanwhile, four arrows came flying in from nearby.
Emmett reacted quickly, immediately dropping to the ground and shouting to Leeanne, “His buddies are here!”
Leeanne kept her cool, snapped her soft whip, and with a few quick cracks, smacked all four arrows down to the ground.
Two more people burst out of the woods. One was Jocelyn, holding a wooden bow with a quiver of wooden arrows on her back, which were Hale’s weapons before.
Leeanne shot a glance at Hale. Now he was wielding a massive iron bow, with a quiver of iron arrows on his back.
‘So they upgraded their gear? Is that why they’re so full of themselves now?‘ Leeanne wondered.
Jocelyn turned around and gave the rope in her hand a vicious tug, grumbling some nasty words under her breath.
Only then did Leeanne realize Jocelyn was dragging a girl along, and it was Camelia.
Camelia looked pale, her arms and body bound tightly with ropes. There was a pool of blood on her left leg, and she stumbled as she walked, clearly suffering from severe wounds.
Finally, a pale–faced young guy stepped out as well.
He was a bit of a shorty, his eyes flickering restlessly, looking uncertain and shifty.

He also had a quiver slung over his shoulder, a short bow in his hand, and a few wooden arrows tucked inside.

Emmett sidled up to Leeanne and whispered, “All three of them are from the archery team. Except for Jocelyn, the other two are pretty good shots. Leeanne, no point in sticking around and getting hurt. Let’s make a run for it.”
Hale sneered, “Run? You think you can get away?”
Jocelyn, Hale, and the short guy lined up, each raising their bows.
Emmett grinned, trying to sound friendly. “Hey, we’re all from District 33, right? Let’s talk this out. Hale, I even watched your match back then. Doesn’t that make us friends?”
Jocelyn let out a mocking laugh. “Wow, Emmett actually thinks we’re friends. Now that’s a surprise.”
Hale sneered, “Friends? Sure, then hand over all your supplies from that backpack.”
Emmett flashed a fawning smile. “Sure thing, no problem!”
He turned to Leeanne and said, “Go on, get moving. I’ll hand over the supplies to them.”
Hale said coldly, “Who said she could leave?”
Emmett turned back. “Hey, Hale, I’ve got plenty of supplies in my backpack, enough to buy our way out of this mess. And besides, Leeanne came with me, so I have to take her with me.”
Hale shot Leeanne a frosty glare. “Alright, but Leeanne has to leave all her supplies behind, too.”
Jocelyn shot back, “No, Hale. Leeanne’s way too full of herself. Let’s take her out!”
Leeanne rubbed her wrists and said, “You all seem to be having quite a lively chat. Why didn’t anyone bother to ask for my opinion?”
Emmett quickly tugged her sleeve, leaned in, and whispered, “Just hold them off for a bit. Gideon will be here soon…”
Suddenly, the short, pale–faced guy yelled, “Come on, let’s get moving. Gideon’s about to show up.”
Jocelyn and Hale’s expressions shifted, and they raised their bows in unison.
Camelia, still tied up, gritted her teeth, her expression pained as she looked at the short guy. “Quinn, when did you become
like this?”
Quinn Styles’s eyes shifted uneasily, avoiding Camelia’s gaze. He kept his focus locked on Leeanne.
Emmett leaned in and whispered to Leeanne, “Quinn was the one who betrayed Camelia just now. He used to be one of her students on the archery team, her star pupil even. Who could’ve seen this coming…”
Hale frowned deeply, and he snapped at Jocelyn and Quinn, “Come on, let’s finish this fast!”
All three let loose their bowstrings, sending three deadly arrows streaking straight for Leeanne.
Emmett rolled out of the way in a hurry, scrambling to safety.
Leeanne cracked her soft whip, weaving and twisting to dodge the incoming arrows.
“Hurry up!” Hale snapped, grabbing three iron arrows, Jocelyn and Quinn quickly followed suit.

Suddenly, Leeanne glanced upward and made a quick gesture.
“You filthy mutts!” A voice suddenly rang out, sweet as sugar, but laced with venom.
The three of them froze, then looked up toward the source of the sound.
They saw a breathtakingly gorgeous bird dive down from the sky.
It was none other than the red–billed blue magpie.
“Little Blue, stall that shorty!” Leeanne shouted.

Just one look was enough for Leeanne to see that Quinn was the sharpest archer of the three, so she ordered Little Blue to hold him off.
Little Blue chirped excitedly, “Got it, got it!”
It spun around and dove straight for Quinn, hurling insults as it went. “You stinking midget, ugly loser, worthless nobody. Bow before me!”
It shot out its claws, grabbed Quinn by the shoulder, and yanked hard. Quinn yelped and scrambled backward.
With a loud rip, a huge chunk of his shirt was torn off, and it even ripped open a patch of skin, blood instantly seeping out.
“Ouch!” Quinn screamed, stumbling back in terror.
He’d been careless for just a moment, mesmerized by the bird’s stunning beauty, and he was totally distracted, making himself an easy target for Little Blue.
Little Blue tossed the torn cloth aside and yelled, “You filthy mutt, useless trash, you little shrimp!”
Quinn’s expression darkened, thinking, “This bird is scolding really harshly.‘
He was barely 5 feet 3 inches tall and weighed just 100 pounds. When he first joined the archery team, his height was inadequate, and his archery skills were completely unsystematic.
Most of the time, he ranked last in the team. Lots of people mocked him behind his back, calling him a midget or a good- for–nothing.
But Camelia was the one who comforted him, cheered him on, and really took the time to teach him. Turned out, he had real talent, and bit by bit, he climbed his way up to become the top archer among the students.
After that, nobody dared to talk trash about him anymore.
Who would’ve thought that even this bird knew his old nickname and was mocking him mercilessly?
That realization wiped away all his fear. Quinn looked up at Little Blue, his eyes blazing with fury.
‘I have to kill it!‘ Quinn thought. I have to kill this filthy animal!
He stayed silent, drew his bow, and sent five sharp arrows whistling through the air, one after another.
