The Double Drop Buff Surviving The Endless Ocean novel Chapter 99

Leeanne was plunged into darkness.

Her eyes quickly adjusted, and in the moonlight, the cave entrance looked deep.

Leeanne took out a torch, lit it, and held it over the edge to peer down.

It seems pretty deep down there, she thought.

After thinking for a moment, she took out a rope, tied one end to a nearby tree, and let the other end drop into the cave.

Then, holding the torch in one hand and gripping the rope with the other, she started climbing down.

Leeanne guessed she’d climbed about ten yards before finally reaching the bottom.

She jumped down, her feet landing on the damp earth.

Leeanne held up her torch and saw she was in a circular cellar.

The cellar wasn’t very big, just over a thousand square feet, and it was pretty empty.

The ceiling was about ten feet high, and she spotted a passageway opposite her. The passage was about six feet tall and six feet wide, big enough for two or three people to walk through together.

After thinking it over, Leeanne stuck her torch into the wall, lit another one, and walked up to the passageway.

She paused for a moment, then set down her torch and dug a trap at the entrance. It was about six feet wide and six feet deep, and she filled it with sharp spikes.

The reason she did this was that she suspected a fierce battle would break out soon.

Whenever there’s treasure, there is always some monster lurking nearby,Leeanne thought. That’s the iron rule of the wild.

Plus, since most of the beasts in this survival game were massive, she made sure to dig the trap deeper than usual.

The trap was set right at the entrance, so if any beast came after her, they’d have no choice but to cross it, and the moment they did, they’d drop straight into the spikes below.

After finishing the trap, Leeanne climbed out, grabbed her torch, and headed on her way.

After walking about sixty to a hundred feet, the tunnel suddenly widened into another circular cellar, about a thousand square feet in size. The ground was damp, with scattered stones and weeds here and there.

On the opposite side, there was another passageway, just like the previous one.

Leeanne thought for a moment, walked over to the tunnel entrance, planted a torch, and set up a similar trap. Then she continued on her way.

She didn’t encounter anything along the way, though the underground air felt a bit stuffy.

After walking another sixty to a hundred feet down the passage, she came to an even bigger cellar, about three thousand square feet in size.

Not far away. Leeanne spotted a treasure chest.

Chapter 99

It was called a treasure chest because it was slightly larger than a regular one, with several luminous pearls embedded in the lid.

The luminous pearls emitted a soft white glow.

Leeanne’s spirits lifted. This chest looks incredibly luxurious, she thought. No doubt, the treasure is inside. This is going way too smoothly, though.’

She didn’t dare approach the chest yet. Just to be safe, she picked up a stone from the ground and tossed it at the chest. The stone struck the chest with a bang.

Ribbit!A loud croak echoed through the cellar.

With a whoosh, a giant frog leaped out from behind the box.

The frog was about 2 feet tall and three feet long, with round, bulging eyes. It croaked again, Ribbit!

Its body was covered in green and black stripes, with deep green warty bumps dotting its back. Its belly was pale, but it pressed itself flat against the ground, keeping that white underside hidden from sight.

Suddenly, the giant frog flicked out its tongue like a black whip, aiming straight for Leeanne.

Even though Leeanne had been prepared, she couldn’t help but flinch in shock.

Seriously? A frog? Of all things, it has to be an ugly frog!she groaned inwardly.

She dodged to the side, snapped her soft whip across the frog with a loud crack, and then spun around to make a run for it.

Whatever the frog spat out, she couldn’t tell what it was, but as it got closer, a foul stench hit her nose.

Is that venom?Leeanne wondered, a chill running down her spine. Ugh, this thing is disgusting. Better run and lure it into the trap!

Ribbit! Ribbit! Ribbit!the frog croaked, hopping after her in huge leaps. Every so often, it spat out globs of something nasty that stuck to the tunnel walls.

It was black, sticky, and emitted a foul odor.

Leeanne ran even faster, desperate to get away.

She didn’t want to take the frog on directly. She knew frogs could shoot their tongues out really far to catch bugs, and she definitely didn’t want to get hit by that tongue.

Just thinking about it made her skin crawl.

She sprinted down the tunnel, occasionally swinging her whip back at the frog chasing her.

The frog usually couldn’t dodge and got smacked, but its skin was so thick the soft whip didn’t do much. If anything, it just pissed the frog off, and it started chasing Leeanne even harder.

Leeanne dashed to the entrance of the first tunnel.

There was the trap she’d set earlier. She vaulted over it with a single jump.

The frog was hot on her heels, launching itself after her with an even bigger leap, landing well past where Leeanne did.

Leeanne felt a surge of disappointment. Oh no, this frog has incredible jumping ability. It just hops along everywhere. Getting it into the trap won’t be easy,’ she groaned inwardly. Why did I have to run into a creature that hops around like crazy and effortlessly avoids every trap?

Plus, since she was underground, Little Blue and Snowy hadn’t come with her, so neither of them could lend a hand.

Ribbit! The giant frog croaked, leaping forward until it was just 2 feet away from Leeanne.

Seeing the frog’s enormous, round, bulging eyes, Leeanne’s face paled. She spun around and fled.

Good thing her Agility was high, and with the passage so narrow, the giant frog couldn’t really use its jumping skills properly. If not for that, it would’ve caught her ages ago.

Leeanne struck the frog with her whip to hold it back, then dashed toward the exit.

There’s still a trap outside,she reminded herself.

When she reached the first trap she’d set earlier, Leeanne leaped over it in one bound.

As soon as her feet hit the ground, she spun around and lashed out at the frog, which was still midjump.

Ribbit! The frog let out a loud croak as the whip struck it, and it landed right at the edge of the trap, so close, but just barely missing the drop.

So close!Leeanne sighed inwardly, then ran the frog around the open area for a bit before heading back toward the trap.

She still hoped the trap would work. After all, the liquid inside had a numbing effect.

Leeanne kept luring the frog back and forth, running circles around the area. Every time the frog tried to leap over the trap, she lashed out with her whip.

After several tries, she finally managed to strike the frog right in the eye as it was midair. The frog let out a frantic series of croaks, dropped straight down, and crashed into the trap with a loud thud.

Ribbit! Ribbit! Ribbit! The frog was screaming in agony from inside the trap.

The noise was so loud that Leeanne had to cover her ears. Clearly, it was really hurting.

Huh, that’s odd, Leeanne wondered. My whip barely scratched it, but now that it’s in the trap, it’s acting like it’s been badly injured. What’s going on?

She was a bit surprised, but her hands never stopped moving. She retreated several steps to the other passage entrance, nocking an arrow and drawing her bow in one smooth motion.

She knew this frog was way tougher than that.

Just as she expected, less than thirty seconds later, the frog sprang right out of the trap.

Ribbit! Ribbit! Ribbit! Its eyes were glowing red with rage as it launched itself straight at Leeanne

As it leaped, Leeanne spotted two gaping holes in its belly, blood dripping down in rivulets and splattering onto the wet

earth.

Its belly. That’s where it’s vulnerable!Leeanne realized instantly. No wonder it keeps its belly hidden. That’s its soft spot. Its back is tough as armor, so hitting there barely does anything. Gotta go for the belly. That’s it!
