Chapter 23: Royal Trial (Part 1)

Karisma’s POV

Papa stood up, releasing some of his aura. Not enough that it would feel like a challenge to the Alpha King, but enough that everyone knew he was an alpha protecting what was dear to him. It comforts me as Papa and Mother are both still beside me, no matter what has happened. His aura calmed me, and it helped me stop tapping my foot as I no longer heard my anklet jingling against my boot.

From the attacks on my life as a child to this drama because of a self–entitled beta. They have never once blamed me. Never once left me to protect myself. It fills the whole that was left in my soul when I turned six and that man… the one that was supposed to love me forever and ever, the one who shared my blood.

‘Family is not always those that share your blood.‘ Winter states in my head. ‘Yes, Karisma. Family is those who have your best interest and stand with you, no matter what life throws at you! Angela adds. I agree

with both of them. I am happy with my family and can only hope that my mate will be happy with me just

as I am.

I felt eyes on me and looked up to see that Kai Jackman was still staring at me. My heart thumped heavily

as I continued to look at him. The gentle squeeze from my mother made me break eye contact. “Is

everything alright, my dear?” Mother asked in a soft and gentle tone. I felt my cheeks heat up as I silently

nodded my head.

I don’t understand it. I have never once been so concerned about males before, but everything inside of me was always so focused on Kai. Even Winter and Angela always wanted to be around him… and that is saying something because Angela never seemed to show interest in either men or women, and Winter has been hostile to everyone except for my family at the Starlight pack.

I wasn’t even focusing on the trial until my mother squeezed my hand. I turned to her, and she looked at me with a worried expression. ‘Everything alright, baby girl?‘ she asked through a private mind link. ‘Yeah. Just nerves and strange feelings. I said. I mean, it was strange as I never once thought of whether my mate would be a male or female since I didn’t feel much interest in either.

‘Strange feelings? She asked. ‘I am feeling strong feelings towards Kai, but they feel muddled.‘ I told her. She gave me a small smile and squeezed my hand once more. ‘I guess we will talk later about the birds and the bees. She said, teasing me. I blushed before refocusing on what Papa was saying.

Third Person POV

Alpha Philip was in front of the room, between Melody and Luca, and Alpha Damian. “My daughter has been getting harassed by members of both my pack and the Moonlight Rose pack for years.” He started before Alpha Damian stood up and interrupted him. “You mean to say that the mutt you adopted, not your daughter. There is,a difference between them, Alpha Philip.” He growled.

Alpha Philip turned and snarled at him, letting more of his aura come out. Falcon was clawing to get out and rip Alpha Damian’s throat out right this very moment. “KARISMA IS MY FUCKING DAUGHTER,

WHETHER BY BLOOD OR NOT!” He roared. His and his wolf’s voice mixed as hair started to bristle through his skin. Karisma jumped up from her seat and ran over to her papa.

Throwing her arms around him, she allowed Falcon to take in her scent. Within minutes, Alpha Philip’s rage, along with Falcon’s, disappeared. He wrapped his arms around his pup and sniffed her hair. He didn’t care whether they shared blood relations or not. Karisma was his and will always be his. Even when she was old and gray with age.

“I am sorry, my little one. Papa is calm now.” He said as he nuzzled her hair. Karisma looked up at him. “I am here, Papa. You need to remain calm, as this could be seen as disrespect towards the Alpha King.” She whispered. Though Kai and Riley both heard her. Riley smiled while Kai smirked. They were on guard for things like this, but Karisma had seen what they had.

Alpha Damian was trying to provoke Alpha Philip, so he tried and cover his own ass. ‘This moron doesn’t

even know that he is screwed.‘ Riley’s mind linked her siblings as well as Melody and Luca. ‘No kidding. I

can not wait to see his face when they step up to speak later.’ Melody replied before dropping her link.

Karisma stayed with Alpha Philip as he turned to continue speaking. “My apologies. Falcon and I are very

protective of our pup.” He said as he squeezed her again. “To us, it does not matter if she shares our blood

or not. She has, and will always be, my daughter. My luna’s daughter. The sister of our future alpha. We all

love her and would do anything for her.” He said.

“If she is so loved, then why do your own pack members harass her?” Melody asks in a tone that was void of emotion. Karisma spoke up. “Because I asked him to let them be honest with their feelings. Even if Papa is the alpha and they would have to obey him if he commanded them to respect me, later on, it would have just caused resentment. Pack members would have either planned to overthrow the alpha family or leave the pack.” She said.

“Well, if they left the pack, then maybe they would be happier.” Riley said. Karisma shook her head. Leaving a pack like that would fester more and more resentment towards those who have a different mate. It is bad enough you have packs like the Moonlight Rose that breed thoughts like that into their children, but having members think that alphas can abuse their power to change how they feel would split more and more of the supernatural world apart.” She said.

“More people would be pressured into rejecting their mates or would reject their mates just to make things easier on themselves. That is not how alphas should use their power.” Karisma said while

squeezing her papa’s waist a little tighter.

Melody and Luca could feel their lips twitch a bit. They wanted to smile, but had to remain neutral. ‘Our little one is so wise and strong, despite us not being there to guide her.‘ Artemis purred in Melody’s mind. ‘ You are right. She will make a wonderful queen! She answered.

Melody couldn’t be prouder of her pup. That she remained so kind and caring for others, even when they looked down on her. She has a true alpha’s heart and spirit. They would just need to bring up her confidence. Then she would be a true alpha queen through and through.

Riley acknowledged Karisma’s reply with a smile and a slight bow. “Fair enough, miss.” She said. Alpha
