Chapter 165
Maddox
The limousine wasn’t going to leave the airport until I said so. I just sat there in the backseat, my window rolled down as I kept watching my father’s private jet on the runway. I smiled as it took off, that being symbolic of his new freedom.
I finally gave the instruction for my chauffeur to begin the ride straight to my office. I could’ve easily gone home, but I didn’t want to do that just yet as I planned not to work on Friday. It was going to be all about my girl.
Just a few minutes into the ride, I dialed my uncle’s number. It didn’t even take long for him to pick up as he had been waiting to talk to me.
“It felt like it was taking you forever to call me. I was just dying to know all the details,” he said from the other end of the line “I wanted to wait until my dad left. He just did.”
“He really deserves this vacation. It’s funny how he planned it before the divorce was even finalized. He was confident and for good reason. I really hated that I wasn’t in the courtroom to see Margot’s defeat with my own eyes. It’s too bad there won’t be a next time to see her like that.” He sighed thoughtfully. “I remember when I got divorced, I took a vacation as well and it served as a great reset. I hope your father finds love again.”
I tilted my head like he could see me. “The same goes for you.”
“Nope!” He chuckled dismissively. “I’m not looking for that.”
I smirked. “You can say that all you want, but it looks like love is looking for you.”
He scoffed. “You call that love? Stop talking about things which aren’t there.”
“Oh, uncle, I thought you liked your new catch.”
“Ugh, she’s not my new catch and you know it.”
His voice turned a little sharp, like my words were actually getting on his nerves, but I didn’t stop.
“She’s definitely your new catch,” I said. “I get that she talks a lot, but you seem to love that. The last time you were with her, I saw the way you looked at her.”
“That’s where you’re wrong.” His voice softened. “I was only looking at her like that because I’ve never met anyone like her before. She’s so different.”
I nodded with satisfaction. “I can’t wait for the day when you’ll actually tell me that you’ve fallen for her. I’ll remind you of this exact moment.”
“Then you’ll keep waiting forever.”
“Maybe you just don’t see it, but I do. Just give it time and you’ll find yourself openly telling me that you’ve found love again. It could be with her. Love will do that to you sometimes. Five years ago, I would’ve never thought that I’d fall in love with Harper.”
That seemed to be the perfect opportunity to change the subject and make it about me. It was the only way to make me stop talking about his love life, so he made good use of it.
“You love that girl so much that you want to always be there for her. Look at you, canceling all your meetings for tomorrow and pushing them to next week.”

Chapter 165
He was still talking about her when I received another call. It was from her and my lig met was a silent re pick up because I was talking to my uncle. Instead, 1 sent her a text that I’d call her as soon as possible,
Her reply was instant, asking where I was. She needed to see me right away if I wasn’t too bossy. It wonder
sat up some more, wondering what had happened.
I was so curious that I asked her right away, but she just wanted to meet me in person and talk
There was a small shopping complex along the road leading to one of my offices and I asked her to meet me there. I saw myself sparing a few minutes for her before heading to the office. It was in the same direction apny
I was so worried that I wanted to find out what was going on immediately.
As the limousine entered the parking lot, I found her standing right by the entrance and she began following as it drove further inside. She looked a bit restless and now that I’d seen her face, it was clear that something was wrDDE
She rushed over to my side, not even giving me a small smile as I stepped out. Still, I wrapped my arm around her waist and kissed her on the lips, but she didn’t even kiss me back. It was like she didn’t even want to do it
“Did I miss something?” I asked while still holding her that close. “And I thought you’d still be with your friends.”
She took a step back with a sigh. “Ella accompanied Zoey. I couldn’t go because I really had to talk to you.”
She began pacing right in front of me with one hand on her hip and the other one on her forehead.
“What’s going on?” I asked, watching her get more restless by the second.
After taking another deep breath, she said, “I was at the mall with Ella and Zoey when I ran into Grayson.”
