The Invisible Girl's Revenge (Harper) novel Chapter 166

Grayson

When I arrived home that evening, I quickly learned that Tiffany was home as well I was glad I no longer had to annKOUTWE my presence now that things were very different between us in our marriage.

Because I didn’t feel like going upstairs, I took a seat on the sofa in the living room. I was still mindful of how I sat down as I feared that I had some lingering pain in my balls. I quickly realized that I was back to my usual self again, but I just couldn’t get over the pain from earlier.

I didn’t even turn on the television. I just wanted to be alone with my thoughts, which were mostly about Harper. She was now all I could think about.

I took out my phone and scrolled to my gallery, playing the footage that had been sent to me in the surveillance room. I’d made sure it was deleted, but not before having a copy of it myself. I couldn’t just let it go as that was the closest I had ever been to her.

Seeing me towering over her in that narrow space while holding her and noticing how nervous she was still made me believe I had a chance. I watched her body language over and over again as I couldn’t get over it.

I began tracing her face with my finger, which was just coming in contact with a screen, but it didn’t matter. I could still look at her.

And then came the part when she was able to resist and kicked me in the balls. That was the part of the clip I hated watching. I could even feel the impact of her knee again and it made me flinch. That part of the clip could’ve been cropped out, but I decided to keep it. Pain or seduction, it didn’t matter. As long as it was Harper, I didn’t mind it. I smirked as she walked past me with so much confidence. Who would’ve ever thought that nerdy Harper would turn out this way one day?

Wanting to watch the footage again, I rewinded it, but paused when I heard footsteps coming down the stairs.

The butlers were downstairs, which meant the only one coming down the stairs was Tiffany. Just knowing that she was coming down made me lose my focus and I clicked off the clip. It wasn’t because I was scared that she would see it. At that point, I didn’t care. It just wasn’t going to feel the same now that her presence had ruined it.

I kept myself busy by checking out the buzz surrounding the Young Power List Awards that would be the following week. Maddox was the most talked about nominee and I fucking hated that.

The awards were being held a day before Harper’s birthday and judging by how things were going between us, I didn’t see myself being invited to her party. I still had time and hoped I could turn things around.

As Tiffany made it past the bottom stair, I thought she’d just walk past me and head to wherever she was going. But she came straight to me and paced right in front of me with heavy breathing.

“I still don’t understand why Maddox got everything! What does dad think of me? Am I not his daughter? It’s really pissing me off that I haven’t been able to reach him since the court verdict hours ago. What the hell is going on with him? Is he ignoring me on purpose?”

I chose not to comment on it, my eyes are still glued to my phone.

“Grayson, I’m talking to you!” she yelled.

I paused as my thumb hovered over the screen. We now called each other on a first name basis whenever no one else was around.

Looking up at her, I said, “I didn’t realize I was supposed to be listening. I’m not even sure why you’re telling me all this.

She shook her head with narrowed eyes. “This involves you too!

She rushed in front of me to block the way and pointed a finger at me, her tone now sharp. “Don’t you dare insult my mom! She’s still your mother–in–law!”

I barely heard the rest of what she had to say as my heart beat a little faster. My body began to heat up, so I loosened my necktie as I rushed up the stairs.

Tiffany called out my name, saying she wasn’t done talking, but who gave a fuck about what she had to say? I had already heard enough.

When I made it to the bedroom, I tossed the tie across the room, pacing right in front of the bed.

The last thing I expected was for Maddox to come over to our house. I told myself to leave right away, but quickly talked myself out of it. There was no way Harper had told him what had happened in that store, but on second thought, what if she did? I’d underestimated the openness of their relationship last time and it was then that I’d been humiliated by him.

I’d already been through so much that day and didn’t want to end up dealing with Maddox as well. It was for this reason that I decided to leave the house.

I was inst about to head out my bedroom door when I heard a car engine outside, making me swallow hard
