On Monday afternoon, Ella, Zoey and I chose to have lunch at a restaurant that we’d been wanting to try out on that Monday afternoon.

They sat on the other side of our table while I sat alone, giving me a clear view of the difference between the two of them. Zoey barely paid attention to anything else as she was glued to her phone. She didn’t even seem all that interested in checking out the menu. In the end, she went with whatever Ella and I would have.

After placing our order, Ella waited for the waitress to walk away, then leaned towards me and said, “I can’t believe you belong to one of the most powerful families in the world. Who would’ve ever thought such a day would come? It’s crazy as fuck. So…when do you meet your dad?”

Forcing a smile, I said, “Dean hasn’t said anything about him. Do you think I should call my dad first or give it some time?”

Ella thoughtfully tilted her head. “Has Dean mentioned that your dad wants to meet you?”

I frowned a little. “No.”

“Then there’s no need. When he’s ready, he’ll call or something. Right, Zoey?”

Zoey didn’t respond, making both of us look over at her. It was just as we thought. She was still distracted and had a bright smile while typing on her phone.

It was only when Ella snapped her fingers in her face that she flinched and looked up from her phone at both of us.

“What’s up?” she asked, trying to play it cool.

“Look who finally remembered that she’s having lunch with us!” Ella rolled her eyes. “You’ve been so distracted ever since you and Aiden became official.”

“He’s been so sweet!” Zoey pressed her phone against her chest with a grin. “I’m actually talking to him right now. We were making date plans and…” she trailed off then cleared her throat, like she had just realized something. “Look at me being selfish when we’re talking about Harper. I’m sorry, guys.” She put her phone down and said, “You’re actually Harper Beauregard. Have you actually thought about how filthy rich you are now?”

I firmly shook my head. “Until my dad acknowledges me publicly, I wouldn’t consider myself one of them.”

“I can’t wait for the day you go toe to toe with Tiffany.” Zoey chuckled with delight. “I can already imagine the two of you in the same boardroom!”

“Wanna know what’s even better?” Ella chimed in with a smirk. “Crushing Grayson when he’s your competition.”

“OMG! Yes!” Zoey excitedly tapped her on the shoulder.

They went on and on about a few possible scenarios, each one of them sounding more ridiculous than the previous one.

“You two need to chill out,” I finally said to them with amusement. “It hasn’t gotten to that yet. I still have a long way to go. Enough about that.”

I felt that the longer I talked about it, the more it constantly reminded me that my father hadn’t yet reached

out to me.

My friends must have noticed because a few seconds after I went silent and couldn’t hide my frown, Zoey excitedly clasped her hands together.

“Voting closes today for the Young Power List Awards! At this point, we all know who’s going to dominate. Sure, Grayson might win in one or two categories, but that won’t matter.”

Ella chimed in while taking her phone from her purse. “I think even Grayson already knows that he’s fucked. I need to vote again for Maddox. I don’t know how many times I’ve visited this page!”

Zoey was back on her phone too, casually adding to the conversation when she gasped with a hand over her mouth.

“What?” Ella and I said in unison.

She looked up from her phone and straight at me, her hand moving from her mouth to her chest.

“What?” I asked again.

Unable to tell me, she handed the phone over to me and as soon as I looked at the screen, I had an uncomfortable feeling in my chest. I was looking at a picture of Maddox with another girl. I knew it was taken that same day because of his brown suit and the way he styled his hair that day. The two of them were sitting too close at a table alone.

I had never seen that girl before, making me wonder what was going on.

My hand began to shake slightly, so I scrolled down and found other pictures of them together. They had been taken from different angles. There was even a video of the two of them as the girl whispered something in his ear and he laughed about it.

I thought I’d get some answers from the comment section, but that only made me feel worse when I read some of the comments.

“Wait, is this Maddox’s new catch?”

“He dumped Harper already?”

“There’s no way they’re just friends. Has he been cheating on Harper?”

“I knew he wouldn’t last with Harper! Haha!”

Unable to read anymore, I looked away and handed the phone back to Zoey, but Ella was so curious that she grabbed the phone.

“What the hell?” she said quietly.

I didn’t know what to say as I was still processing what I’d just seen.

When Ella handed the phone back to Zoey, her expression softened as she looked at me.

“Are you okay?” she asked.

As the seconds went by, I could feel my heart racing so fast that there was a change in my temperature. I was so bothered by what I had seen.

I barely ate my food when it was served. I constantly scrolled on my phone, trying to find answers. There was no one in the comments who knew who that girl was.

Maddox had some explaining to do, but I couldn’t reach him when I called. He didn’t even reply to my text messages. I needed to know so badly.

All I knew was that he’d told me earlier that he’d be attending a charity event at 10 AM. The pictures made it look like he was in a formal setting, but who was that girl?
