After stepping out of the car, I got to see him in full view. He was still in the same suit I’d seen in those pictures and videos.

He opened his arm, an invitation for me to get closer for a hug, but I just stood there like I didn’t want to. I just wanted him to speak.

It only took a few seconds for him to get to me and he wrapped his arm around my waist, moving his face closer for a kiss on my lips, but I immediately looked to the side. Kissing him was the last thing on my mind.

“Okay,” he said quietly, still holding onto my waist. “So that’s how it’s going to be now. We should go inside. There’s a lot that I have to say and it’ll be a lot to take in.”

He led the way while still holding me, but I stood in place and said, “No. I want to hear it right now. I’ve been waiting for hours.”

“Come on. It’ll just take a few seconds to get inside the house.” He scoffed like it wasn’t going to be a big deal.

My eyes narrowed when I looked up at him. “Are you being for real?”

He sighed, like he had just realized how that had sounded. “Fine. Let’s talk. I know you’ve seen a lot, but don’t believe everything people are saying in the comments.”

“Who is she?”

It took a few seconds for him to speak. Then, he dropped the name.

“Claire.”

Hearing that name only made me feel worse because last time, I had to deal with Juliet and it wasn’t that bad because I was there when she showed up.

“Claire, huh?” I moved a few steps to the side, his arm dropping from my waist.

“I know how that looked,” he said, taking a few steps toward me but not close enough to hold me, “I was caught off guard. I was at the charity event I mentioned. I didn’t know she’d be there. I didn’t even know she was in town.”

yet when she sat with you and had her hands all over you, you didn’t react. There were cameras everywhere. I just couldn’t push her away and embarrass her.”

I shook my head with disbelief. “So you just laughed when she whispered in your ear?”

“Like I said, there were cameras everywhere. There’s something else you need to know. I don’t know how this happened, but she joined the joint project I’ll be working on. The meetings will run for three weeks and there.

I jerked my head in his direction fast. “That means you’ll frequently meet up with her for the next three weeks? Will it just be the two of you?”

He shook his head with disbelief. “Why do you make it sound like I’m going to be having a good time with her?”

I sighed. “I didn’t say that.”

“You didn’t have to. Do you think I’m so weak that I can’t handle myself around her?”

“I didn’t say that either.”

He sighed, pulling me closer by holding my hands. “Then trust me, okay?”

I sighed, telling myself not to be so insecure about it.

“It won’t just be the two of us. There’s a whole team, so don’t worry about that. I’ll meet her on Mondays and Thursdays.” Gently placing his hand on my cheek, he said, “Now, how about that kiss? You still owe me that.”

I chuckled softly as I tilted my head and closed my eyes, my lips meeting his in a passionate kiss. I told myself to shove all the doubts at the back of my mind. I just needed to trust him.

When he pulled away, he took out his phone as he said, “Have you had dinner yet?”

“No. That hasn’t even crossed my mind.”

“How about we have dinner at my place?” He held up his phone, ready to take a few pictures.

“I like the sound of that. Had I not spoken to you about this, I don’t think I would’ve had dinner. It bothered me that much.”

“As it should. You’re my girl.” He smirked.

After pressing the record button, he began by kissing my cheek, then moving his lips towards mine. We kept it simple when our lips locked as I didn’t feel him shoving his tongue inside my mouth. That was more than enough to get the message across.

After he stopped recording, he stepped back to smack my ass as he said, “Get what you need so we can leave.”

I was about to head towards the front door when he smacked my ass again, but I wasn’t complaining. I even looked back while biting my lip.

When I came to my bedroom, I changed my shoes, then went to the mirror to brush my hair.

I then picked up my phone to turn the notifications back on. Everything came flooding in, but it was the most recent notification that caught my attention. Maddox had just tagged me in a post.

Curious, I clicked on that notification and was redirected to his most active page. He had posted the video we had just taken outside, where he was kissing me on the cheek, then on the lips. That would’ve still been

My heart fluttered as I read it over and over again and it quickly began to gain attention before I even left the house.

While that one post cleared the air and put me at ease, I still wasn’t over the fact that Claire was going to stick around.

The internet had shut up about a possible break up between Maddox and I. While I no longer had to worry about that, there was still something else I couldn’t stop thinking about. It was Thursday and Maddox was supposed to meet Claire. It wasn’t like it was just going to be the two of them, but I had these images in my mind of them sitting across from each other. What if he would go back in time to when they- no. I firmly shook my head, telling myself to keep pushing the cart and focus on the groceries I had come for.

I had already accepted that he had a wild past and some of those girls would show up at one point in his life. It had happened with Trina and we were able to get past it. All I needed to do was trust him because I knew he loved me and had been honest with me so far.

When I got to one end of the aisle I was in, I picked out a jar of peanut butter when I heard a familiar voice from behind me.
