Chapter 231
Grayson
waited until the waiter was far enough, then, in my most pitiful voice, I said, “The things that I do for Tiffany because I love her so much, no one can understand that. Despite what she’s doing to me right now, I still want what’s best for her
That made my mother–in–law tilt her head. “What are you talking about?”
I shook my head dismissively, shifting in my seat like it was so heavy to talk about. “I’ll find a way to handle it
She leaned forward, clearly not wanting to let it go. “What’s this about? You can’t tell me you’ll handle it after saying something like that.”
She was so curious that I just wanted to smirk because I was already setting the stage, but I couldn’t.
“On our way back from the Aldridge Estate, Tiffany said she wants all her shares back.”
She gasped as she leaned back in her seat. “Why would she say that?”
I sighed as I looked to the side. “Isn’t it obvious? Everything was transferred to Maddox for a reason and after what happened yesterday, she’s definitely not getting anything. That’s why she wants to hold onto everything she already has. But is that fair to me? I was actually uncomfortable at first when she wanted me to manage all this, but I said yes, because it was with her best interest in mind. Now she just… wants it all back.”
I held my breath, wondering what she would say in response to that, but it took her a while to say anything.
When I looked back at her, she had thoughtfully crossed her arms. She didn’t seem to want to say anything just yet, which was unexpected because I thought it would be so easy for her to just demand that I do as Tiffany said.
Judging by the way it took her so long to say something, part of me started to believe that she was looking at other options because she wasn’t in agreement with Tiffany’s decision.
But then, she dropped her arms, looked me straight in the eye and placed her index finger on the surface of the table to emphasize whatever she was about to say to me.
“She’s right. This is my daughter’s future we’re talking about. She’s entitled to nothing because that asshole ruined everything by telling her he’s not her father. As soon as you can, transfer everything back to her.”
I hoped it wouldn’t come to that because it was going to get a little ugly, but there was no way I was going to let go of those shares, not after what I had achieved ever since they had become mine.
“Are you sure about what you just said?” I asked. She wasn’t even able to pick up the threat in my tone
She sneered. “Listen here, Grayson, whatever my daughter wants, she’ll get it, especially now. There’s a way we can speed up the process using-”
“No.”
She blinked rapidly. “No?”
“I’m not doing it,” I said firmly. “I’m doing just fine managing everything. It’s not like I’m running away or something. Everything’s perfectly in its place. Haven’t you heard how much improvement there’s been at the shopping mall in just a
week? This is-”
“Don’t give me that crap! I just lost my appetite.” She got up so rapidly that the chair scraped against the floor. “Stop acting

so entitled and just do as you’re told.”
Just when she turned to walk away, I said, “You’re the only one who’s going to do as you’re told”
I felt good saying that to her and it made me sit up even more confidently in my seat
She first jerked her head back at me with a look of disbelief before turning fully. “What did you say?”
“Sit down.”
I saw her right on time when she raised that hand so she could slap me across the face, so I caught her wrist when the palm of her hand was just an inch away from the side of my face.
“I said sit down.” I said, “unless you want me to announce everything you told me today.”
Her eyes widened. “You wouldn’t dare.”
“At this point, I definitely would. Sit down and listen.”
She must have wanted to keep it a secret so badly because she didn’t look like she was in a hurry to leave anymore. I waited until she sat back down and there was that sharp glare aimed right at me, but it meant nothing because I was already in control.
‘It’s so disappointing how you were quick to take Tiffany’s side and not mine. That’s why you’ve left me no choice. I’m not giving anything back to her because you’re going to be on my side.”
“Are you out of your mind?”
‘Not at all. I’m just stating my terms. That’s in exchange for keeping my mouth shut.”
It took her a moment to figure it out and when she did, she twisted her face in disgust. “You wouldn’t dare.”
“I can show you right now,” I said boldly.
She looked around then crossed her arms in defeat.
“You said it yourself,” I said, “you don’t plan on telling Tiffany anytime soon who her biological father is.”
“And here you are, threatening to expose the truth because you’re that desperate to keep those shares? Are you so selfish that you would do that to your own child?”
I wanted to tell her right the way that it wasn’t mine, but it hadn’t yet gotten to that.
“Look, I just want everyone to win in this situation,” I said, my voice authoritative. “That’s why it’s better we play by my rules.”
I expected her to give in to my demands just like that, but suddenly, she raised her eyebrows, like she had just realized something and it made her chuckle with confidence.
