Chapter 250: Watching Her
Chapter 250: Watching Her
Grayson
The Barclay Twins were Traving their birthday party on a private island that belonged to their uncle. Everyone in attendance that evening had come by invite only..
Apart from the mansion, there were six cottages across from it. They were open to everyone in attendance, but no one had a use for them, especially with one of the most popular DJs in charge of the music. His booth was right in what was usually the living room.
It was an hour since the party had begun and I’d already finished a full bottle of whiskey and was halfway done with the second one.
I didn’t even enjoy it for a second because not once did I get the chance to talk to Harper. It wasn’t just because Maddox never left her side. She also wasn’t looking in my direction despite us sitting right where we could see each other. I couldn’t think of a single moment when the two of us had made eye contact ever since my arrival with Tiffany.
When she wasn’t so busy focusing on Maddox, she was busy talking to Ella and Zoey, or arryone else who had been invited. She didn’t even have to go around to talk to people because they were the ones who were coming to her. It even looked like some of them were introducing themselves. These were people I’d heard of in the corporate world, children of some of the most influential people and there they were, wanting to get to know her.
The moment came when all those people went in different directions. That was when I got to watch her closely. She shifted in her seat and crossed one leg over the other while lightly vibing to the music.
I should’ve looked away, but I couldn’t because she looked so sexy in that short red dress. There was the dark red lipstick, low cleavage and exposed collarbone. Maddox sipped his drink while he possessively had his arm over her shoulder. He
ctually looking at her like he wanted to fuck her right there.
hings had annoyed me that evening since arriving on that island, like how Maddox and Harper were the center of on whenever the twins were not around and the people passing by while talking about who Harper’s father was. I’d ard them a few times. But nothing annoyed me more than seeing him openly look at her like that. He must have known that I was watching because he finally looked in my direction while kissing her hand. He even whispered something in her ear while still staring at me, but she didn’t even bother looking in my direction. She knew she’d see me and that just made me feel like she’d rather stare at a wall.
While that had my blood boiling, I wasn’t the only one experiencing that. Tiffany was right next to me and kept groaning and scoffing while watching them. She had actually been doing that constantly but I was so jealous about Harper and Maddox that I didn’t give a fuck about what she had been doing.
“Look at her, just enjoying being the center of attention,” she finally said a bit louder than usual because of the music. “I’ve been to several parties before, but since when is it all about Harper? I can’t stand it.” She then chuckled mockingly. “And I’m guessing it’s worse for you.”
She was right about that, but I wasn’t going to give her the satisfaction she was looking for.
“Oh, Tiff, If you can’t stand what’s going on here, then you better go home.”
She rolled her eyes. “You know I can’t do that. It’s parties like these where you get to meet potential business partners.” “Yet here you are, sitting beside me since we arrived.” I smirked as I sat up more. “Is it because people didn’t actually pay attention to you when we arrived?”
She sneered. “Stop making up stuff that didn’t happen.”
“You know we both saw it. Don’t tell me you’re actually wondering why that happened? The news spread that your father, actually no, Mr. Aldridge transferred everything to Maddox, so there’s nothing for you. What makes you think anyone who had potential business plans with you would still want to get close to you?”

Chapter 250 Watching Her
She must’ve said that about Joah te piss me off, but it only made me laugh because I didn’t care at all. There wasn’t even the smallest part of me that longed for what we used to have. It was dead and now, there was only one girl I longed for.
didn’t even look at Tiffany as she made her way through the crowd to go outside. I was too focused on Harper.
I thought I’d have that moment to myself, but was interrupted when someone tapped me on the shoulder from behind. I looked back and found a familiar face smiling at me with a greeting. His name was Jason and he was just a year older than me. I hadn’t directly worked with him, but his father. He was so glad to see me.
Of course, I had to be polite and return the greeting, but I also didn’t want any other view apart from Harper. It didn’t matter to me that she was with Maddox. I could just pretend he wasn’t there
Just so I wouldn’t miss out, I invited Jason to sit with me at my table so we’d have a little chat. He had no problem doing that and quickly joined me.
Maddox got up just then while staring down at his phone, like he needed to take an important call. He shared a simple kiss with Harper before heading outside, right in Tiffany’s direction.
Harper now turned to her friends and kept vibing to the music. I liked that view better because she was now alone.
“I didn’t think I’d be seeing you here,” I said to Jason while still focusing on Harper.
He grinned with a nod. “I was actually surprised when I received the invitation to this birthday party. I hadn’t spoken to the twins in years, but I see they still regard me as a friend. This party has been amazing so far!”
“I agree,” I said as my eyes traveled up Harper’s legs. “There’s so much to see.”
Whatever he had to say afterwards, I barely looked at him as I kept staring at Harper.
It became so obvious to him that he finally said, “She’s gorgeous.”
I finally looked at him. “Who?”
He lightly shook his head, like he couldn’t believe I was trying to play dumb. “I’m talking about the girl you’re looking at, Harper Beauregard.”
I chuckled. “I’m just trying to keep an eye on her because she’s already drunk too much. She’s actually my childhood best friend.”
I even hated that friendship label because now, I wanted so much more.
His eyes grew wide with amazement. “Really?”
I nodded. “Yeah and back then, we were just growing up in a small neighbourhood before we ever became who we are today.”
His lips curved into a smile like he was so impressed. “So you two are still really close?”
“Very close.”
I sounded so convincing when I said it that I almost believed it myself.
Just to further convince him, I even took out my phone to show him a few old pictures of Harper and I.
He gasped when he saw them. “Wow, it’s true. It’s not that I didn’t doubt it because come on, you’re Grayson Ford. I just
(‘ would’ve never guessed that you two grew up together. Can you please do me a favor?”
He looked at me with hopeful eyes and that made me tilt my head as I wondered where this was going.
“Can you please talk to her for me?” He brought his hands together
“What?” I asked with amusement.
