Chapter 251. Whep! Left

Chapter 251: When I Left

Maddox

The Barclay Twins’ birthday party was supposed to be a time for me to just have a good time, but even when I had given clear instructions to my assistant hot to call me about anything work related, he still did it. I knew that it had to be important if he was actually breaking the rules.

It was something I couldn’t ignore, so I kissed Harper on the cheek and excused myself to talk to him outside. The music wasn’t too loud, but I still preferred to get away.

I let the phone ring as I moved further away from the mansion, now heading towards the cottages that were across from it. There was quite a distance in between the two sides and for me, that was the perfect spot to talk on the phone.

I stopped when I was right in the middle and dialed the number again.

Just as I thought, it was urgent, but more importantly, it was more serious than I assumed. It was still something that could wait until the following day, but I just needed to give my assistant clear instructions.

I was still talking to him when I heard a familiar voice from the side of one of the cottages.

I looked over and spotted Tiffany leaning against the side of the wall of the cottage that was at the very end. She was on the phone, yelling. It didn’t take much for me to figure out that she was talking to Josh.

But even after finding that out, that wasn’t the main reason I stared at her for that long. Not only was that our first meeting since finding out that we didn’t share the same father, but I still hadn’t forgotten about what she had wanted to do to Anna. My revenge was already on its way and I was ready to deliver the final blow. I just needed two more days.

“Who gives a fuck if you’re busy?” she yelled. “I called you because I’m bored here! Don’t forget that I’m pregnant and- Hello? Hello? Shit!”

She kicked the air, then faced forward like she was about to start walking back toward the mansion.

But when she saw me, she froze, looked to the side, then faced forward again with her head high.

She was visibly upset by how Josh had hung up on her, which was why she moved with long strides that made her hair sway a little harder than usual.

As she got closer to where I was standing, I noticed that she did everything in her power not to look at me. Even when she walked past me, not once did she even glance at me with the side of her eye.

But I wasn’t just about to let her go, so just after she walked past me, I turned around to look at her and said, “What’s wrong? Nothing going your way this evening?”

She stopped in her tracks, then turned around. “What?” she said loudly.

“There’s no music playing here. You definitely heard me so I don’t have to repeat myself.”

She huffed, taking several steps forward to get close to where I was. “You and I haven’t talked in a long time and that’s the first thing you have to say to me?”

“I’m the one who made an effort to even say anything. You just walked past me like you don’t give a shit. But you know what? That’s okay because I don’t either.”

She sneered before crossing her arms. “So that’s what this is? You were just looking for a reason to rub it in my face that you don’t give a shit? Of course you don’t. You got what you’ve always wanted, everything that belonged to-”

“My father?” I finished that sentence for her.

She clenched her jaw and glanced to the side before looking back at me. “You’re such an asshole for enjoying this.”

“I didn’t say anything about enjoying this.”

“Don’t give me that bullshit. Here you are, sole heir and with you, is that that-*

I raised my eyebrows as I stared at her, my eyes narrowing with warning about the next word that would come from her

mouth.

“Go on,” I dared her.

mething she managed to say.

She pressed her lips together with a sigh, like she knew not to disrespect Harper in my presence.

“Everyone’s now just kissing her ass like she’s s “Well, she is. And this is just the beginning. Enough abone and young out who your dad is?”

Even though my tone was mocking, I was also genuinely curious.

“No and I don’t give a fuck about that.”.

sighed. “I don’t know why I even bothered to ask. I knew you’d say something like that. I mean, why would you want to find out who he is? You already know that had he been someone as wealthy as my father, Margot wouldn’t have done what she did. That only leaves one possibility and ”

“Oh, just shut up about Her voice cracked like she was about to burst into tears. “You think you’re so powerful?”

My expression turned cold as I said, “I am.”

That instantly shut her up and her eyes widened a little when she realized just how right I was.

I took a step forward while maintaining that cold expression as I said, “I’m so powerful that I’m about to show you.” “What’s that supposed to mean?” Her forehead creased like she was actually worried.

I slowly walked past her as I said, “Pretty soon, I’ll show you. Just be patient.”>

That must’ve landed so hard as she didn’t follow me or ask any further questions. I preferred it that way because I wasn’t going to tell her anything. But when she would receive that final blow, she’d realize what I was talking about.

As I was getting closer to the mansion, I had to smile so I’d look friendly again. I even ran into some siblings that I had known for a long time and we chatted for a few minutes before I continued on my way inside.

I was just about to get to our table but paused when I noticed that the twins were there with Harper’s friends, but she was the only one who wasn’t present.

I didn’t mean to do it, but the next spot I looked at was Grayson and he wasn’t there as well.

Quickly, I took out my phone to start texting, but before I could even send that text, I was interrupted by someone.

“Maddox!”

I looked up and instantly forced a smile. “Jason.”

He chuckled with relief. “I can’t believe you remembered me!”

“How could I not remember you?” I managed to keep my tone polite despite the thoughts running through my head. “I’ve actually been wanting to talk to you since you arrived, but it wasn’t so easy with everyone crowding you and Harper.”

“Well, you’re in luck because we finally got separated,” I said jokingly.

“You know, I was just with your brother-in-law and couldn’t believe it when he told me that they’re childhood best friends.” I subtly poked my cheek. “He told you that?”

“He did. I needed a favor from her and he said he’d put in a good word for see the two of them come downstairs.”

  1. I’m so hopeful that I’ll be waiting right here to

I shoved my hand in my pocket and clenched it. “What’s that supposed to mean?”

“He assured me he’d talk to her, so he followed her upstairs.”

Jason had a lot more to say but I barely heard anything as I just started thinking about Harper and Grayson being upstairs.

I didn’t just want to wait around, so I quickly excused myself and walked up the stairs after texting Harper.

There were so many speakers hanging from the wall at around the mansion that I couldn’t escape the music. I just wanted some silence as I thought about finding Harper. But in a place like that, it was impossible.

The hallway had so many doors that I quickly started opening each one of them just to find her. She hadn’t yet replied to my text and that made me wonder why.

There was no sign of her in the rooms on both sides of that hallway and I was getting impatient.

When I turned left into the next hallway, I froze as I felt the building rage inside of me. I finally found Harper and she was in Grayson’s arms while he kissed her gently.
