Chapter 252
Chapter 252
Grayson
With the bass coming from the speakers that were all around, Harper never heard me following behind her.
The DJ made the announcement that everyone needed to gather around the main table, but even after Harper listened to that announcement, she just kept moving through the hallway until she turned to the other side.
I didn’t make my presence known right away just so I could take in the view of her voluptuous curves from the back. But he actually looked like she was upset about something..
When she finally turned around and saw me standing just a few feet away, she actually twisted her face with annoyance.
“What the fuck do you want?” she asked bluntly.
I was so caught off guard that I blinked a few times rapidly. “Damn, after not seeing each other for a while, that’s the first thing you say to me? There’s so much going on with you that it’s crazy how long it’s been.”
She didn’t even seem like she wanted to respond. She faced the other side of the hallway and wanted to keep moving.
But I quickly grabbed her wrist and pulled her back gently. “Wait-”
She grunted as she pulled her wrist away from me. It wasn’t just because she was still mad at me. She actually looked like she didn’t want me to touch her. To me, that felt like an insult.
I knew why I was there, so I decided to play my cards right. “Is everything okay? Downstairs, I saw the look on your while you were looking at your phone.”
She sighed loudly, like I was actually wasting her time. “Whatever it was, it’s none of your business.”

I was a little disappointed that my first plan didn’t work. I thought showing her that I still cared would make her soften up, but I guess not.
“Cool.” I raised my hands in defeat while still not showing her any signs of backing down. I needed something else and I had just the perfect thing to say. “I was with this guy, Jason, right before I followed you. You must’ve seen him when you walked past me.”
“I wasn’t that interested in what was going on around you.”
I forced a chuckle. It seemed the only way she’d talk to me is by being blunt. Well, it was better than completely being ignored.
“Anyway, I continued. “He wanted me to put in a good word for him so you can talk to your Aunt Rachel.”
“Fine.”
And with that, she attempted to walk right past me, but I didn’t have enough patience this time.
The moment I grabbed her and pulled her back, I pinned her right against the wall. It was then that I could smell the whiskey from her pretty mouth. She had been drinking for quite

That’s enough, Harp,” I said as I brought my face real close to hers. “You have some nerve, standing here in front of me an not even bothering to apologize.”
She scoffed right in my face. “For what?”
“Don’t act like you don’t remember. You set me up the last time we met.”
“Fine. I’m sorry my sister didn’t do more because the truth is you deserved worse. And you know what? The only reason you’re coming up to me is because Anna’s not here.”
She must’ve been trying to hurt my feelings, but I was only amused by the situation.
She was still talking about her sister when I gently placed the palm of my hand on her cheek and she froze, like she had suddenly forgotten her words.
Without blinking, she instantly slapped my hand away, but that only made me place my other hand on the other side of her face.
She did it again and I told myself it was going to take a lot more than that to see her crack.
“I see you’re still acting like you want nothing to do with me,” I said with a smirk.
“I’m not acting. What will it take for you to actually realize that I really want nothing to do with you?”
The confidence in her voice actually made my smirk fade because it sounded like she meant it.
There was no way I was going to lose. I needed to see the reaction that always satisfied my ego most of the time. So I moved my face closer and slightly tilted my head.
She was about to step to the side and the thought of actually having her reject me made me think fast. I held her by the waist possessively and she gasped. By the look on her face, it wasn’t even because she loved the feeling. She shook her head, like she couldn’t believe I was taking things that far.
“Is this your desperate attempt to make things go your way?” she asked firmly.
“I just want to speak from my heart. It doesn’t matter what has happened. I love you.”
I could feel her breathing with our faces so close and her breath was still steady, like hearing me say that while I was that close did nothing to her..
Even when I looked in her eyes, all I could see was that she was daring me to take things as far as I wanted and I still wouldn’t get what I was looking for.
In a low and threatening tone, she said, “You better let m-”
I shut her up when I quickly placed my lips on hers. I was gentle with it as I wanted her to feel what I felt. My tongue waited for her to part her lips for me in response. But even after a few seconds, nothing happened. She was so closed off that I wasn’t getting anywhere with her.
Suddenly, someone grabbed me from behind and dragged me away from her so aggressively that I didn’t have time to defend myself.
The moment I came face-to-face with Maddox, he punched me hard in the jaw twice while holding on to my collar.
“Please, stop!” Harper cried out with panic.
The rage on Maddox’s face should’ve scared me, but it was only amusing because he actually looked jealous. There was a high chance that he would punch me again and I’d be no match for him. That was why I smirked as I spoke to him while tasting the blood in my mouth.

Chapter 252
“I told you that I’d take her away from you. That wasn’t so difficult. I’m sure you saw how she still longs for me and
“That’s not true!” she quickly chimed in. “Babe, it’s really not what it looks like!”
I chuckled. “You don’t have to lie to him. He saw the whole thing.”
I knew that I was lying. Harper had let me kiss her just so I could feel how much had changed between us. If I ever had hope that I’d be able to melt her heart again, the moment I placed my lips on hers proved me wrong. But it was so satisfying to see Maddox so furious that I wasn’t going to stop.
I kept talking just to make things worse and it seemed that the more I went on, the longer it took for him to actually punch me again. He just had his list hanging in the air while breathing hard. The possibility that he believed me actually got me excited. I didn’t even care that my jaw hurt.
“She’s definitely not yours,” I said to him.
Just then, Harper came closer right behind Maddox. She placed her hand on his elbow of the arm he had positioned at an angle while clenching that fist.
To my satisfaction, Maddox pulled away from her and let me go. He then looked between the two of us like he was still trying to process what had happened.
He didn’t even have my attention as much because when it came to Harper, she froze with wide eyes, like she couldn’t believe that he had pulled away from her because he didn’t want to be touched.
“I can’t believe this shit right now,” he finally said calmly while staring straight at her.
“You better believe it,” I chimed in while massaging my jaw.
“Shut up, Grayson!” Harper yelled, gritting her teeth with irritation.
“Why don’t you shut me up by giving me another kiss?” I teased her.
She didn’t respond this time and I was actually offended. It was like I wasn’t worth her time. She actually focused on Maddox, who didn’t say anything else and just glared at her. It was like she hated to be seen that way by him. I couldn’t fucking stand it.
“I’m glad I came to this party,” Maddox finally said. “I actually got to see the two of you.”
The most satisfying part, even though I knew that Harper just stood there and let me get close to prove a point to me, was that when he saw us, it just looked like she was into it.
She let out a shaky breath as she got closer to him and said,. “Can you please just hear me out? I really-”
