Chapter 261. Under investigation
Chapter 261: Under Investigation
Grayson
Ever since the day Mr Lawson had made that announcement, Fordchem just crumbled and there was no wa out of that mess. It only took a month to lose so many clients and everything I had worked hard for. Despit how deep I was in trouble, nothing was worse than all the charges I was facing now that I was under investigation.
So what if there were some irregularities? It wasn’t as if the company had been getting worse each year.
It wasn’t just Fordchem that was affected. I had also been losing potential clients for my other businesses my name was something no one wanted to be associated with.
The worst came on that morning and there I was, lazily hunched over in my seat while my entire family was gathered in my living room. They came as soon as they heard the news from the media.
I held the bottle of whiskey by the bottleneck and it was almost empty. No one had tried to talk me out of it just yet as they knew I wouldn’t listen.
While I still had so much to look forward to because I was still a shareholder in several companies and had property in different parts of the world, it didn’t mean anything at that moment because with Fordchem in deep shit, I feared I was going to lose so much more.
Even with everyone present, I mostly kept my eyes on Tiffany because of those fake tears. She sat across from me and was right next to my mother.
Of course, my mother had her arm wrapped around her so she could comfort her. If only she knew that my fucking wife was actually celebrating the downfall of my company.
She was still fake sobbing when my father, who was right next to me, placed his hand on my shoulder.
“Son, that’s enough now.”
I pulled away from him while drinking from the bottle that I had with me.
“It’s not the end of the world. You still have so much more to look forward to. Tiffany’s just started her secon trimester and she really needs you. Please don’t do this to her and your unborn child.”
I held back a scoff. “I’m the one who received the news a few hours ago that I’m facing even more charges, not Tiffany. She’ll be just fine.”
She didn’t narrow her eyes at me or anything. She just kept going with her fake sobs and even made them a bi louder.
“Aww, my dear,” my mother said as she gently ran her hand down Tiffany’s back while looking at me with disapproval. “Don’t say that about your wife. And your father is right. You really need to put that bottle down because you actually have to take Tiffany to the hospital soon.”
I sighed. “Just in case you haven’t noticed, I’m in no state to drive.”
I wasn’t as drunk as I looked, but anything was better than going anywhere with Tiffany because I knew what
was coming.
“Hey,” my sister said. “You don’t even have to drive but come on. She needs you to be there with her. The chauffeur will take both of you.”
While wiping her tears, Tiffany softly said, “Your sister’s right. I need you.”
That instantly melted everyone’s hearts in the room and I fought hard not to roll my eyes. I couldn’t tell if they had forgotten everything she had ever done to them, or they were just overlooking it because she was pregnant. If only they knew that the little one growing inside of her wasn’t even part of our family. “It’s too bad there’s nothing that even Maddox can do to help you get out of this mess,” my father said.
I clenched my jaw as soon as his name was mentioned. I had no evidence to show that he was the one responsible for what had happened to me so suddenly. But I still believed he was the one behind all of it after

the warning in that boardroom.
Even if I were to go up against him, there was nothing I could do to someone like him. My best bet was Ha but even she wanted nothing to do with me.
I hadn’t spoken to her since the night of the Barclay Twins’ birthday and I greatly hoped that with whatever was going through, she’d finally give me a call. It was going to mean so much to me just to hear from her a know that she was worried about me. Not once had it happened the entire month, but that day was the heaviest blow for me when it came to the company. She definitely knew about it. I just needed to wait for h because I was certain she was going to reach out.
I was still thinking about it when suddenly, Tiffany got up from her seat with a sniffle. “I need to freshen up.
She needed to walk across the room to get to the stairs and on her way, she walked right past me and I cal the subtle smirk. I already expected something like that from her because it had been happening every sing day, but at that moment, there was no going back.
When she was out of sight, my sister said, “It’s quite sad that Margot couldn’t make it even today for Tiffan sake.”
“She never does,” my father added. “She’s constantly been moving between countries on those business trip
Tiffany and I had made everyone believe that, but the truth was her mother wasn’t that busy. Tiffany was jus still mad at her and they hadn’t spoken to each other in over a month.
Margot had also kept her distance so she wouldn’t trigger Tiffany in any way. She still tried to keep in touch using phone calls and texts. I had to constantly give her updates on what was going on with her daughter because even after all this time, she was still blocked.
My family left just 30 minutes later as they wanted to give me enough time to freshen up and sober up a littl bit.
I slowly made it up the stairs, every step filling heavier than the previous one as I thought about my new charges.
When I walked into the bedroom, I found Tiffany in a robe while humming.
I didn’t even need to ask what that was about because it had been the same tune every day whenever she wanted to rub it in my face that I had lost something so important.
I walked past her and stepped into the shower to feel a little refreshed.
When I stepped out, she was already dressed and was now lining her lips..
“Without my parents here, I don’t actually have to pretend,” I said. “You can go on your own. It’s not like you actually need me.”
She snickered. “Oh, no, don’t say that. You know how much I need you. Why wouldn’t I want to carry that face with me everywhere that I go? I’ve gotten used to that expression and you know what? I hope this keeps happening. You deserve it after everything you’ve done to me.”
I shook my head and headed to the wardrobe for my outfit while shaking my head with amusement. “Look who’s talking. The difference between you and I is that I’ve lost Fordchem, but I can still recover with time. It’ll be hard, but I believe it’ll happen. And then there’s you, so desperate to maintain your lifestyle that you’ve sold quite a number of cars and apartments.”
She burst into laughter to mock me. “That’s not true. I haven’t just sold quite a number of cars and apartments. I also sold my private jet two weeks ago.”
My amusement faded instantly because I didn’t know about that part.
“What?”
She turned around to face me, her triumphant smirk making poke my cheek. “If you think I’m as miserable as you, you’re wrong. I was gathering my money for a large investment and it’s done. I was so smart this time that not even Maddox could sabotage my plans. Life’s been so good to me lately and you can’t relate.”
I recovered quickly by shaking my head at her. “Someone is way more confident than a month ago with
