Chapter 263 Change of Plans
Chapter 263: Change of Plans
Maddox
After weeks of preparation, everything was ready. I had several meetings that had taken place behind clos doors and by the following morning, Tiffany was going to lose something she had recently come to value
I stared at the open folder on my desk and smirked. It wasn’t going to destroy her completely, but it would make her understand that actions had consequences.
She might have thought that after that one time I managed to acquire the company from Brenda Jones, Iv going to leave her alone, but I wasn’t yet done. I had one more blow.
After everything she had done, she deserved every bit of it.
I reached for my phone and could imagine what the following day would be like. All I had to do was make call because that was all it would take for the next phase to begin.
Right when my thumb was about to dial that specific contact, I received an incoming call from my father.
I frowned because he rarely called during business hours unless something was important.
“Dad.”
I expected an immediate response, but there was a brief silence. That was enough to tell me that somethin
was wrong.
“Maddox, I hope you’re not in a meeting.”
“Not at all. What’s wrong?”
“Tiffany lost the baby a few hours ago,” he said quietly.
My body instantly froze at the news that Tiffany had a miscarriage.

I leaned back in my seat slowly, my hand loosening around the phone. “What exactly happened?”
“I don’t know yet. Grayson didn’t give me any details when he called to tell me.”
I rubbed a hand down my face. “That’s…that’s awful.”
“It is. I’m on my way to our private hospital now.”
“I’ll come with you. Work can wait,” I said immediately.
“I’ll come and pick you up. Where will I find you?”
After I told him which office I was at, the call ended and I placed my phone on my desk with a loud sigh.
I looked back at the folder that had everything I’d spent weeks putting into motion. One call was all it would’ve taken, but at that moment, I couldn’t do it.
I had wanted her to face more consequences for her actions, but whatever she had done, she had just lost her child. It didn’t even matter who the father was.
That wasn’t the time to make her suffer. I even thought that time was never going to come again, so I quickly put the folder away and rose from my seat as I called Harper to inform her.
When I reached the hospital, my father’s car was already there. I parked beside him just as he got out.
I was about to walk over to him so we could go in together when something caught my eye. Just beyond the main hospital entrance was the hospital’s flower shop.
“I just need a second,” I told my father while already approaching the shop.
I walked into that flower shop and studied all the flower arrangements before pointing toward one that had a mix of white lilies and cream roses.
When I returned right where I left my father, he first looked at me and then the bouquet in my hand. His expression softened as his lips curved in

He paced a hand on my shoulder and said. “I’m sure she’ll appreciate it.”
The truth was. I wasn’t expecting her to appreciate it. I just did it because I wanted to.
When the two of us entered the lobby, everyone went quiet and that included the receptionist, nurses and
the factors
They were now in the presence of the former chairman and the current chairman.
gave us warm welcomes but it wasn’t like the usual because they knew what was going on.
We acknowledged each greeting as we walked towards the corridor that led to Tiffany’s room.
Grayson was just outside that room, standing alone while he faced the floor.
At the sound of our approaching footsteps, he slowly looked up and I studied him carefully. His eyes wer and his entire face looked exhausted. Was he genuinely devastated or simply good at looking devastated
He first acknowledged my father then me as he shook our hands, one after the other.
He didn’t even make eye contact with me but glanced at the flowers.
How is she? my father asked
Grayson instantly broke down and I watched every second without blinking. Were those real tears or just a deformance? I couldn’t decide
“She’s not okay” His voice trembled. “She hasn’t stopped crying since she woke up a few hours ago.”
My father sighed. “I know this isn’t easy for you. This was supposed to be your first child together and ther this happened. I’m so sorry”
So am I managed to say, despite having my doubts about his tears.
He immediately wiped his tears and turned towards the door. “Thank you. Come in.”
“Who’s with her my father asked.
My family’s already here. They were the first to arrive. My mother-in-law was the first person I called, but because she’s coming from another state, she’s not yet here.”
I knew in my heart that my father preferred it that way.
Grayson led the way inside and my father entered right after him. I was the last to walk in and closed the doc
Despite Grayson’s family being present in that room, there was silence except for the steady beeping of the
Tiffany lay on the hospital bed with her back facing everyone.
“Tiff, you have visitors again” Grayson said to her
There was no response from her. Not even a glance.
Then, my father stepped forward and gently called out her name

I also stood near the bed, still holding the bouquet in my hand. As I studied her at that moment, I didn’t se anyone else apart from someone mourning the loss of her child. It was for this reason that everything el had been planning felt insignificant.
It took a few minutes for her to calm down.
Even after breaking the hug, my father remained beside her because she didn’t want to let go of his hand.
She stared at nothing like she was replaying the events of whatever had happened.
My father then gestured towards me and I cleared my throat to grab her attention.
She lifted her head and I held out my hand. “These are for you.”
She blinked rapidly without saying a word and received the bouquet.
As she set it on the table beside her, my father rose from the bed.
He waited until she was facing him again before he asked what happened.
Before anyone could answer, I caught something. Tiffany shot a subtle glare at Grayson, like it was a silen warning for him to be careful. My eyes narrowed slightly because now I was certain something huge had happened and it was something neither of them wanted to say out loud.
“There was an accident,” Grayson’s mother said with emotion.
“Tiffany fell down the stairs,” Grayson continued quickly, like he wanted to be the one to tell us what happe “I tried to stop it, but I couldn’t get to her in time.”
“Where did this happen?” I asked.
“The plan was to bring her to the hospital because she needed to see the doctor, but she wanted us to first grab some food. When we were at the restaurant, that was where it happened.”
Still not convinced, I said, “And how exactly did-”
“Can you just stop?” Tiffany snapped. “If you came here to investigate what happened, then you shouldn’t ha come!”
I instantly lifted both hands. “I was just curious.”
“I don’t need your damn curiosity, okay?”
I sighed, not bothering to say another word.
Her mother-in-law quickly rushed over to her and sat on the edge of the bed while rubbing her back. “Please calm down, my dear. We’re all just worried about you.”
While she comforted Tiffany, I focused on Grayson and caught the moment when the sorrow seemed to disappear from his face. He almost looked comfortable.
Then, his eyes met mine and his expression changed again like he was about to let those tears run down his face.
I kept staring at him for as long as I wanted to and he found himself getting uncomfortable as the seconds went by because each time he looked at me. I was still watching him.
I had so many burning questions that finally I said, “Grayson can we talk outside?”
He was caught off guard, but had no choice. “Uh, yeah, sure. I need to get some coffee.”
I led the way out of the room and after he closed the door and we moved several steps away from there, my eyes narrowed suspiciously.
“You must be so happy about this.”
He scoffed. “What are you talking about?”
