Chapter 269
Chapter 269
Margot knew how much trouble she was in as Bridget was connected to Maddox. Sebastian and her ex-husband.
Late that night, she was already on the run while carrying a small bag with her. She knew she couldn’t leave San Fr that would provide the perfect opportunity for her to get arrested, so she decided to lay low at a cheap hotel while disguise and a fake name.
The room smelled like cigarettes and cheap detergent when she walked in. She even twisted her face with disgust a spotted the wallpaper peeling near the ceiling.
After spending most of her adult life surrounded by luxury, she now had to settle for that just to stay out of trouble.
She set down her bag on the small table then approached the bed.
As soon as she sat down, she flinched because of the way it creaked and that made her get up instantly as she though next move against Benjamin for betraying her.
She approached the large mirror instead just to check herself out and make sure everything was still in place. Her dis had been working well, thanks to the large glasses that covered part of her face and the shoulder length wig that hid h forehead.
She also wore clothes that were several sizes too big. There was no trace of makeup, jewelry or anything that would m her recognizable.
It all made her laugh confidently as she stared at her reflection.
“Why am I so worried? Maddox and those assholes won’t find me,” she said to herself.
When she leaned forward to reposition her bangs she flinched at the sound of her phone ringing.
It was then she realized just how much she didn’t want to get caught.
When she checked the caller ID, not only was she relieved that it wasn’t him. She was also shocked because it was someo she would’ve never expected to hear from any time soon.
Quickly, she picked up the call because she didn’t want to waste a second.
“Sweetie?” she said to Tiffany with a pleasant smile while still panicking inside.
“Hey, Mom.”
Tiffany sounded so casual that it made Margot sigh loudly while placing a hand on her chest. “I can’t believe you actually called me after all this time. The last time we spoke was the night you found out the name of your father and even then, yo only asked if it was true and never spoke to me again after that. This means so much to me.”
“That’s why I’m calling you. I wanted to tell you that I want to see him and talk to him. But I need you to be present.”
Margot firmly shook her head. “I can’t do that any time soon Why not just go to him alone?”
“I can’t do that just yet. I’ve been away for a while. I wanted to do this with you. Don’t you think you owe me that?”
Just then, Margot realized something. “Have you heard anything?”
“About what?”
“You’re telling me you h. zen’t heard anything at all in the last four hours?” Her eyes narrowed suspiciously.

Tiffany sighed with irritation. “Given the fact that this is the first time I’m calling in months, this isn’t the reactio expecting from you.”
Margot’s eyes went wide like she had just figured out something. “Wait, this is just too convenient. You haven’t ca this time then suddenly, you called me today and just a few hours after I spoke to Maddox? Did he put you up to
“What?”
“Is this call being traced?”
“Mom, what’s going on?”
“I still love you, okay?”
“Mom, talk to me!”
And with that, Margot hung up on Tiffany, wrote down a certain number quickly like she was running out of time, slammed the phone on the floor until the screen shattered and it went off.
She looked down at the number she had just written down and nodded to herself. No matter what, she was going to Benjamin pay.
The next morning, Margot got herself a new prepaid phone and set it up as soon as she got back to her room.
With not much to do, she approached the old TV and reached for the remote just to fill in the silence.
All of the channels she had seen offered nothing she was interested in, so she kept pressing the button on the remote she stopped when her own photograph filled the screen during a news article.
“Authorites are now searching for Margot Fox and Benjamin Saunders in connection with the death of Bridget Aldridg
She swallowed hard and muted the television as soon as she heard that statement.
She realized it wasn’t a good idea to stay in one place for more than a day. She was already thinking about moving by th end of the day.
Just as she thought about where she’d go next, she heard the sirens of a police car outside and panicked.
She rushed to the window and peeled the curtain just enough to see what was going on.
It was just as she thought. The car parked right in the parking lot of the hotel and her heart raced faster.
Three police officers emerged from the car and headed straight to the reception.
She was already out of breath as she wondered what to do next.
Soon enough, she heard them in the hallway and that made her rush to the door. She checked through the peephole and spotted the three officers. They weren’t exactly at her door, but that didn’t make her feel at ease in any way.
Her breathing became shallow when she feared that the moment they’d knock on her door, she’d have to open it.
She was already thinking of grabbing her bag and jumping outside the window. She had never done anything like that, but at that point, she was desperate to get away.
Just then, one of the three officers called the other ones to check out something on the next floor and just like that, they were gone.

She placed a hand on her chest as she covered her mouth and laughed hard.
Idiots. This is too easy for me.”
While she had survived that moment without getting caught, she knew not to get too comfortable in that place. matter if they had come there for something else.
