Chapter 271

Maddox

My father and I sat on one side of the table as we waited for Margot.

The room was so quiet that I could feel my racing heart along with my breathing.

My father was the complete opposite of me. He was so composed that it looked like he was just there for an ordinary meeting.

When Margot was brought out in handcuffs, her eyes went wide with surprise. It wasn’t because of me, but my father. She smiled as she rushed over to her seat and kept her eyes on him.

“You’re here,” she said to him while studying his face. She couldn’t believe it.

“Of course I’m here,” he said calmly. “Why wouldn’t I be here after learning what you did? And you were so mad about it that you didn’t want to go down alone?”

That instantly shifted her mood and she leaned back in her seat. “So, you came here to judge me.”

“You had something to do with my wife’s death, yet all you can think about is that I’m judging you for what you did Benjamin?”

“The idiot betrayed me!” she snapped and got up from her seat. “You wanted me to just let it go?”

“I shouldn’t be surprised that you reached that extent. It wouldn’t be the first time having someone’s blood on your hands. It’ll take Sebastian the whole day to get back to town, but I assure you that he’s definitely coming to see you. Just in case you think there’s a way out of here, there isn’t. You’re going to be locked up for a long time. We’re going to make sure of that.”

She sat back down quickly like she had just been defeated. Her confidence instantly faded and she went into panic mode when she brought her hands together.

“Look, what happened in the past is definitely the past. I was young and selfish. If I didn’t mean to…. I’m sorry, o-okay! mean it. Just don’t let them lock me up for good. I promise I’ll make up for everything. Whatever it is, just tell me and I’ll do it!”

When tears suddenly streamed down her face, it should’ve been satisfying to see the genuine tear in her eyes that she was going to be locked up, but it only infuriated me. I was seconds away from slamming the table. But with my father present I had to keep my composure.

Just when it looked like she was done, she finally looked at me for the first time since I arrived and he leaned forward while still having her hands together.

“Maddox, I think you deserve a personal apology as well. You were so young and I took your mother from you I just wanted it all for myself. Now, I realize it wasn’t fair to you.”

Her chair scraped against the floor as she got down on her knees, looking at both of us with those teary eyes

“I need you both to forgive me It’s the only way I’m getting out of this ntess She then suddenly got off the floor while panicking. “Think of it this way You’re so powerful that you can get anything done in hiding getting me my freedom I know you can do it, so please forgive me and help me?

The more I watched her act like she deserved any form of forgiveness, the more my vision blurred from my tears. She deserved only the worst.

Unable to sit there anymore, I rose to my feet and said, “Dad, when the trial begins. I wont be able to attend

My father nodded with a heavy breath. He was still trying to keep a blank expression, but he was now so angry that I spott

those creases on his forehead.

I was just about to step out when Tiffany walked in with a dreadful expression. She stood right beside my father.

Margot gasped as she wiped her tears. “Tiffany! You’re here!”

“Had I known you had done something so terrible before I called a few days ago, I wouldn’t have bothered to call at all. Tiffany said with a look of disappointment.

“Why don’t you tell these two that I did it all for you? I wanted to give you a better life and what better way than to make few decisions that wouldn’t please everyone? I gave you only the best. You can’t say I failed you because you’ve been ablet experience all the luxuries of this life thanks to my decisions back then!”

“Are you even listening to yourself?” Tiffany said while shaking her head. “You did it all for me? Then guess I should than you for that because thanks to you, I can’t even hold my head high. It was already so bad before, but now, it’s so much worse!”

Margot chuckled bitterly while shaking her head at Tiffany. “Is this what I get for making so many sacrifices for you? You’d be living a poor girl’s life if not for all I did for you!”

The entitlement was something I just couldn’t handle as I feared that I was seconds away from flipping that table just so she’d shut up.

Tiffany was on the verge of tears and she reached for my hand like she needed me that much. I knew what she was trying t do. She wanted me to feel sorry for her enough to let her back into the business empire, but I had already seen through he

Unable to hear anymore from Margot, I pulled iny hand away from Tiffany and headed out. My father followed behind me just a few seconds later.

We were already in the passage but could hear her still begging for mercy while at the same time, justifying her actions.

I had to stop for a moment when we were outside. I placed my forehead against the wall and took a deep breath to get myself under control. I didn’t want to shed tears again.

My father stood right next to me for a few seconds, then placed his hand on my back.

“We should go,” he said softly.

I composed myself quickly and shook my head as I stepped away from the wall. “I’ll find you in the car I ist need to have a word with Tiffany before we leave.”

“Sure, take all the time you need.”

After my father made his way to the car, I took out my phone and called Harper she was the one person count calk to t that moment. I only hoped she wasn’t in the middle of a lecture She picked up my call on the must try and was so relevest that she was available. Hearing her voice was so calming that my heart stopped pounding hard

I was much calmer by the time Tiffany stepped out and when she saw the just wanting near that wall she walked over with crossed arms and rolled her teary eyes

“I’m surprised you’re still here” Her voice trembled as she smitted Considering how you just pulled you hand away back

there”

“Are you okay?” I said quietly.

“Like you actually give a fuck”

I scoffed, hating the fact that even when I was trying my best to look past everything Fiffany had done she still wanted to act
