Applause and compliments rang out from the crowd,

“That’s Dr. Ford! She’s the one who operated on me last time. Such amazing skills and such a good person.”

“If it weren’t for her, this little girl might not have made it.”

Surrounded by praise, Elina helped the little girl sit on a chair.

The girl’s father quickly said, “Thank the doctor!”

Elina stopped him. “Don’t speak yet. We still need a full examination to check for any residue.”

Then she knelt and spoke gently to the little girl. “Can you just nod or shake your head when answering me?”

The girl slowly nodded.

‘Still having trouble breathing? Feel like throwing up? Does your head hurt?”

The girl obediently responded with gestures.

Elina breathed a sigh of relief and stood up, but the girl suddenly hugged her tightly. Elina was stunned for a moment before hugging her back and gently comforting her.

‘Don’t be afraid. With the doctor here, nothing will happen to you.”

She pulled out a lollipop from her pocket and handed it to the girl’s father. “Later, if she behaves during the check-up, reward her with this candy. And tell her not to put marbles or small things in her mouth. anymore.”

Not far away, Jaslyn froze at the sight.

Her little face was full of disbelief and sadness. Why is Mommy so gentle to another child? And that lollipop is my favorite. Mommy always carry some for me. Why did she give it to someone else?

Jaslyn’s face crumpled, and she cried, “It’s Mommy… Mommy is hugging another kid… Mommy doesn’t like Jaslyn anymore.”

She tried to break free from Elowyn’s hand, but the grip only tightened painfully. Elowyn knelt down and wiped her tears away.

“Mommy is helping someone right now. If Jaslyn runs over, Mommy will get mad at you.”

It sounded like she was persuading Jaslyn not to interrupt, but something felt off. Even Howard frowned.

Elowyn’s words sounded more like she was implying that Elina didn’t care about Jaslyn.

Jack, still angry, looked at Elina’s sweaty forehead. Somehow, his anger lessened. He had never seen her like this; so strong, so radiant.

“Jack.” Elowyn called, pulling him back. “Let’s go home. Mom and Dad are waiting.”

Jack looked away, his stern face softening slightly. He bent down and asked Jaslyn, “Do you want to say goodbye to Mommy?”

Jaslyn turned her head angrily. “No! Bad Mommy! Only nice to other kids!”

Then she stomped off.

Elowyn sighed.”Jaslyn really resents Elina.”

Jack hummed in response, saying nothing as he followed her. No one noticed the slight smirk at the corner of Elowyn’s lips as she watched them leave.

“Jaslyn, wait for me.”

Hearing the familiar voice, Elina, who had just handed the little girl to her colleagues, looked toward the door. She saw Elowyn holding Jaslyn’s hand, walking closely beside Jack. They looked just like a real family.

Already resigned to reality, Elina felt nothing. After Jaslyn’s discharge, hospital gossip about her and Jack faded.

Among colleagues who had known Elina for years, no one spoke ill of her. If anything, they criticized Jack and Elowyn for betraying her. Elina ignored it all.

With no more “your husband” or “your daughter” buzzing in her ears, she finally had peace. For a whole week, Jack didn’t appear. Her mood was much better. As for Jaslyn, she also missed her far less.

At five in the afternoon, Elina changed clothes after work and got a call from Xenon.

‘The new documents were edited. Have you seen them?” His deep voice carried a trace of warmth.

Elina sighed. “I haven’t had time yet. But is it really necessary to call every day to check? And isn’t it around 5 a.m. where you are?”

Xenon paused and explained, “I stayed up reading papers. Today’s my day off. I can sleep later. You just finished work?”

“Yeah,” she said, heading toward her dorm. “On my way back.”

“Not eating first?”

“I’ll cook later.”

“What are you cooking if you didn’t buy groceries?”

Elina laughed. “Since when did you start chatting like this? You usually only talk about work or rush me about documents.”

Far away across the ocean, Xenon frowned at her teasing words. “I want to ask you for a favor,” he said after

a moment.
