Chapter 21 Charges
That single, firm word stunned Ronald and Rowena.
“W-What did you just say?” Ronald’s face turned red with anger. “I knew it-you’re nothing but an ungrateful brat!”

It was a phrase Elina had heard so many times in her life that it no longer fazed her. From childhood to now, the words she heard the most were “ungrateful brat.”
“Are you trying to make me angry, to lose control so everyone will side with you and condemn me? Or are you hoping I’ll feel guilty enough to agree to your demands and protect Elowyn?” Elina spoke calmly, her voice light and drained of emotion, but her questions hit like a slap.
Even so, in Ronald and Rowena’s eyes, everything that happened was Elina’s fault.
“What good does it do you to say all that…”
Before Ronald could finish, a figure stepped in front of Elina, blocking her view.
“The investigation isn’t even over yet. The police haven’t made any conclusions, and you’re already blaming Dr. Ford without even getting the facts straight? Aren’t you afraid of making a fool of yourselves?”
Anna’s voice, as bold and blazing as she was, shielded Elina from the barrage of negativity. She kept her face cold, then turned to Elina. “Do you want to go sit over there for a bit?”
Some color finally returned to Elina’s pale face. She shook her head. “I’m fine, Ms. Anna.”
“Ms. Anna, please, for the sake of the Mansor family, let’s not escalate this,” Rowena quickly cut in, her tone changing completely. “Whoever caused this mess should be the one to clean it up. We can’t let Elowyn get dragged into it. You’ve always had a good relationship with Elowyn, haven’t you?”
Anna felt her anger rise. “Isn’t that exactly what I’m doing? Holding the person responsible? Elowyn’s the one who acted out, and you, as her parents, are still covering for her. I can’t even imagine what kind of disaster she’ll cause next.”
Every word was laced with contempt for Elowyn. “And as for me getting along with Elowyn, that’s only because of Jack. But compared to Dr. Ford, Jack’s influence means nothing.”
The moment those words left Anna’s mouth, Ronald and Rowena froze. Elina’s standing was even higher than Jack’s? Realizing Anna’s stance, Rowena still tried to plead, “Ms. Anna, even if you’re closer to Lina, Elowyn is her sister by blood. That counts for something, doesn’t it?”
Meanwhile, Jack was with Elowyn, helping her through the police report. Out of the corner of his eye, he
saw Elina.
She stood quietly behind Anna, her head slightly lowered, her expression distant and fragile. A wave of guilt and pity surged through Jack’s chest.
“Please believe me,” Elowyn’s tearful voice pulled him back. “I didn’t mean to fall. I didn’t do it on purpose. I never said I wouldn’t pay for the damages. It’s all just a big misunderstanding.”

Chapter 21 Charges
Her trembling hand clutched the fabric of his shirt, her fear and panic plain as day.
Finished
Jack lifted his eyes and said quietly, “The security footage was erased. Witness statements alone won’t be enough to convict. The police will investigate thoroughly. Don’t worry.”
Hearing his words, the officer nodded. “Mr. Mansor is right. But since the plaintiff intends to press charges, these statements will be powerful evidence in court.”
The officer’s tone remained professional, but he clearly hesitated to meet Jack’s gaze, wary of who he was dealing with.
Elowyn’s knees buckled, and she leaned heavily against Jack. “Jack, it was just two dresses… How did it turn into all this…”
The police officer handed Elowyn the report to sign and then turned to find Elina and Anna.
Both of them calmly recounted what happened. Unlike Elowyn, who twisted the story to her advantage, Elina and Anna’s statements were short and factual. They finished quickly.
