Chapter 24 Lisa’s Call

As usual, Elina performed a basic check-up for Madam Moores and wrote out an order for further tests. ‘You’re doing really well, ma’am. Starting next time, you only need to come back for a check-up every six months.”

A housekeeper accompanied Madam Moores out for the tests, leaving Anna alone in the consultation

room.

Elina and Anna stared at each other. Unexpectedly, Anna suddenly said, “Dr. Ford, if you ever need any help, just give me a call.”

They had exchanged numbers before but had never actually used them. Elina had thought it was just a Formality, but after everything that happened yesterday, Anna’s interest in her seemed genuine.

Glancing at her computer and confirming she had no other patients scheduled, Elina finally responded. ‘I’m doing pretty well right now, but thank you for the concern.”

‘No need to be so polite with me. I just think if you plan to go through a divorce battle with Jack, it’s going to be tough to get what you want. I can introduce you to a good lawyer.”

Anna’s eagerness was met with Elina’s usual cool detachment, and even Anna found herself at a bit of a loss.

She quietly watched Elina, waiting for a response. “Ms. Anna, we’ve already filed for divorce. We’re currently in the cooling-off period. I’m not asking for money, and I’m not asking for custody, so there’s no need for a lawsuit.” After saying that, Elina added, “And please keep this confidential. I don’t want Mr. Benjamin to know about it yet.”

It wasn’t Elina who leaked the news but Elowyn, and if Jack found out, he would definitely jump to conclusions and blame her without a second thought. Elina didn’t want to waste any more time dealing with Jack’s nonsense.

Anna nodded. “Don’t worry. As long as Elowyn doesn’t go shouting about it with a megaphone, your secret’s pretty well kept.”

After all, Elina still had to attend Benjamin’s birthday celebration)

“Ms. Anna, weren’t you good friends with Elowyn?” Elina asked, puzzled by her attitude.

“Good friends? I used to be polite because of Jack. Later, because of you, I thought she must be a decent person too. Turns out, I was wrong. Jack must have been completely out of his mind.”

She didn’t say the rest of what she was thinking–that someone as wonderful as Elina was being thrown aside for a worthless woman-because she didn’t want to taint Elina’s quiet, pure presence with ugly

words.

Elina actually smiled slightly. “Ms. Anna, you’re quite funny.”

Anna blushed and said, “I guess I just don’t have a filter sometimes.”

A nurse came by to say another patient was waiting, and Anna stepped out on her own. Before she left, she

waved her phone and said, “Remember, if you need anything, call me, Dr. Ford.”

Elina paused for a second, then nodded. “I will.”

At first, she hadn’t thought much of Anna, given her connection to Jack and Elowyn. But now, she realized Anna was actually a clear-headed outsider, not one of them.

That evening, when Elina got home, she received a delivery from Luxe Haven. Just as Anna had said, the dress they sent was even better suited to her than the one that had been ruined.

Elina looked at herself in the mirror and nodded in satisfaction. It wasn’t flashy, but it definitely wasn’t to be underestimated. As a prop to maintain her image as Jack’s wife, Anna had chosen perfectly.

Elina was in great spirits. Then her phone rang. She walked over and paused when she saw the flashing caller ID.
