Chapter 28 Jealousy

Finished

As the eldest grandson of the Mansor family, Jack had a way of easily putting Benjamin in a good mood.

Sure enough, without even needing to explain anything, Benjamin was already smiling, his eyes filled only with the warm affection of an elder toward his younger kin.

When the elevator reached the first floor, the guests, who had already been informed that Benjamin was coming downstairs, gathered near the elevator doors, waiting expectantly.

With a soft ding, the doors slid open. When the crowd caught sight of Jack and Benjamin inside, the younger generation even cheered to liven up the atmosphere.

But as soon as Elina appeared, the noise instantly died. For a moment, the entire villa fell into a heavy, stunned silence.

Is that Mrs. Mansor? I’ve never seen her before, only heard about her. I didn’t expect her to be so beautiful in person!”

That dress she’s wearing is from one of my favorite designers. It’s a limited edition from Luxe Haven. I can’t believe how perfect it looks on her.”

‘She’s stunning, like a real-life fairy.”

Whispers soon picked up again after a few beats. Lowering their voices, the guests buzzed about the rarely seen young Mrs. Mansor of the Mansor family.

Elina’s dazzling appearance hadn’t been planned. But when she lifted her eyes and locked gazes with Anna in the crowd, she understood immediately.

This dress probably cost more than the two ruined ones combined. Elina realized this was Anna’s way of howing her sincerity.

Although she had no intention of stealing the spotlight and only wanted to play her part as Jack’s wife, the ituation left her with little choice. She wasn’t going to shy away from it either. Stepping out of the levator, she carried a poised and graceful smile, following Jack’s lead as she said, “Thank you all for oming today.”

ack’s father had been deeply passionate about painting and had made great achievements in the art world, but he was completely clueless when it came to business.

Benjamin had personally groomed Jack as his successor, so Jack often represented the family at public

vents on his grandfather’s behalf. Elina’s role was to step in for Sabrina.

But every time she flawlessly upheld the Mansor family’s image, standing right behind Jack and playing he perfect Mrs. Mansor, it only fueled Sabrina’s resentment. That was why Sabrina always looked for ways o bring Elina down.

To put it nicely, both women in the Mansor family had a hand in running the household. But the ugly ruth was that Sabrina was nothing more than a figurehead, while Elina actually handled much of the amily’s affairs and held real influence.

As Benjamin’s daughter-in-law, Sabrina should have been the one standing proudly beside him. Instead, she had to settle for clapping along with the guests in the front row, her useless husband standing beside her, totally oblivious. Her eyes darkened with resentment.

And Sabrina wasn’t the only one unhappy with Elina’s spotlight. Elowyn watched Elina standing proudly between Jack and Benjamin, seething with rage.

Unlike Sabrina, Elowyn made no attempt to hide her jealousy and anger; it was written all over her face.

Rowena stared at Elina in disbelief. “How does she even have the nerve to show up here, and still posing as Mr. Benjamin’s granddaughter-in-law?”

“Shameless! She must’ve clung onto Jack and acted all pitiful in front of Mr. Benjamin,” Elowyn hissed, her voice trembling with emotion.

Ronald, on the other hand, looked on with a mixture of envy and admiration. “Getting compliments from so many big shots… Lina must’ve saved up lifetimes’ worth of good karma.”

“Dad!” Elowyn tugged at Ronald’s sleeve, her eyes red with frustration. “You’re playing favorites!”

“If it weren’t for her, the one making you proud tonight would’ve been me! I could’ve used this to network and introduce your name to people in the industry.”

Her words implied that Elina had failed to fulfill her duty as the Ford family’s daughter. Ronald’s face twisted with displeasure, his earlier envy turning into disdain and anger.
