Because of her mother’s few words, the expression on Elowyn’s face gradually calmed down.
However, no matter how bitter they were behind the scenes, no matter how much they talked down what they couldn’t have, Elina, standing beside Benjamin at that moment, was still one of the brightest stars in the room.
“I heard Mrs. Mansor is a top specialist at the Central Hospital, with a perfect surgical record. She even won awards back when she was still studying. Sir, you’re truly blessed to have such a granddaughter-in-law. With her around, you’re bound to live another hundred years!”
Hearing this, Benjamin couldn’t help but reveal a proud smile. “Of course. Lina is outstanding. She didn’t rely on any connections. She climbed her way up to become the youngest chief at the Central Hospital purely through her own ability.”
He was standing up for Elina and making it clear to everyone that her achievements had nothing to do with the Mansor family. It was all her own doing. Standing just behind him, Elina’s smile grew a little stiff, but her nose stung with emotion. Benjamin understood her hard work and dignity, maybe even better than Jack did as her husband.
Before long, Jaslyn, who had been soothed by the nanny, came over. Just like Elina, she politely greeted all the elders around them.
“What a sweet child. Just as poised as Mrs. Mansor.”
“Exactly. She’s more like Mr. Mansor, calm and full of grace.”
“If you ask me, she takes after Mr. Benjamin more than anyone. Always smiling so kindly. No wonder everyone likes her so much.”
“Sir, you should take a family photo with everyone!”
The Fords also came over. But even then, Elina held Jaslyn in her arms and stayed close to Benjamin, maintaining her important position at his side.
Sabrina barely contained her displeasure, forcing a smile, responding mechanically to round after round of compliments directed at Elina.
Finally, the birthday banquet officially began. There was a stage set up in the garden for performances, and the guests who had been crowded into the main hall of the mansion slowly began to disperse.
From a distance, Elowyn stared at Elina standing next to Jack, biting her lip until it almost bled. Why? I have already come back. Why is Jack still keeping that woman at his side? Hadn’t that little brat said she hates her mother the most? Why is she now sitting quietly in Elina’s arms without a single tear?
Seeing the “perfect little family” being praised to the heavens, Elowyn could no longer hold back her
anger.
“Elowyn,” suddenly, a lazy voice with a hint of mockery sounded next to her, “must be tough watching them, huh? There’s something I haven’t told you yet.”

Elowyn turned her head and found Ethan’s smirking face right behind her, frowning instinctively.
Ronald and Rowena had disappeared, probably off taking advantage of the networking opportunities. She stood alone in a corner, looking like an abandoned rag doll.
Ethan’s face, however, wore a look of faint pity. She hated seeing that look on anyone’s face.
“When did you get here?” Elowyn changed the subject, unwilling to let anyone see her vulnerability.
Ethan stepped a little closer to her. “Aren’t you curious? It’s about Jack and that woman.”
Her brow furrowed tighter. “What do you want to say?”
Ethan leaned in and told her about running into Elina at the police station and how Jack bailed her out afterward. He watched as Elowyn’s expression gradually crumbled.
Ethan sighed and said, “I even asked Jack if he had feelings for her. He didn’t admit it… but he didn’t deny it either.”
That final line seemed to snap the last thread holding Elowyn’s sanity together. She clenched her teeth and balled her hands into fists.
“Mr. Xander, there’s something I’d like your help with,” Elowyn squeezed the words out through gritted teeth.
Ethan raised an eyebrow. “What is it?”
Elowyn leaned in closer too, lowering her voice. “Something that will make sure Elina can never hold her head up high again.”
His face instantly lit up with interest. “Now that sounds fun.”
