Sabrina huffed, clearly annoyed. “Didn’t you say Elina hasn’t been home in forever? So why is she back now? That little brat must’ve been brainwashed or something-the first thing she does when she wakes up is cry for her mom.”

Rowena chimed in smoothly, riding Sabrina’s frustration. “Exactly. She takes after her mom-ungrateful little-” She caught the warning glance from Sabrina and immediately stopped herself.

‘Whatever the case,” Sabrina said, changing her tone, “Jaslyn’s still Jack’s daughter. I don’t care what drama you all have going on-don’t drag the Mansor family’s bloodline into it. If you do, don’t blame me for cutting ties.” With that, she turned around and told the housekeeper, “Make arrangements for the Ford Family to leave.”

Inside, Ronald was still deep in conversation with Noah. When the staff politely asked them to leave, he had no choice but to cut it short and head out.

The whole family squeezed into one car, everyone looking annoyed.

What’s so great about the Mansors, huh? If they weren’t so desperate for you to give them a son, do you eally think I’d have let you come today?”

She was seething, and Elowyn could only sigh beside her. “Elina’s the lucky one.”

Lucky? Give me a break. She wouldn’t have any of it if it weren’t for me.”

Back at home, Elina sneezed out of nowhere, rubbing her arms as a chill crept over her.

she hugged her arms around herself, but the moment she stepped into the house, the warmth inside

hased away the lingering chill on her skin.

Thirty minutes later, freshly showered and in cozy loungewear, she had just settled in when her phone

uzzed on the coffee table.

What’s this supposed to mean?”

t was Jack. The second she answered, his voice cut straight through-cold and accusing.

What the hell are you talking about?” Elina replied, thrown off.

The Luxe Haven gown order-why is it filed under the Mansor Group’s account?”

What else was I supposed to do?” she said, her voice calm but pointed. “You told me not to embarrass the amily-that if I’m going to be Mrs. Mansor, I need to play the part. So why shouldn’t you be the one Daying for it?”

She sounded calm and confident, and for once, Jack didn’t have a comeback.

Then came a drowsy little voice from his end of the line.

‘Was that Mommy? Is she coming home now? Hmph! Mean Mommy! Why’d she stay mad so long? I don’t want her anymore!”

Elina’s gaze darkened slightly. “Is there anything else? If not, I’m hanging up.”

Before Jack could say another word, she ended the call.

Inside the car, Jack stared at his screen for a moment, frowning before setting the phone down. Beside him, Jaslyn looked up with hope shimmering in her eyes.

“Daddy, when’s Mommy coming home?”

“She’s not,” Jack said, his voice colder than before.

Elina had changed. She wasn’t the same person anymore. These days, all she seemed to care about was money-as if nothing else mattered. Not even him.

Jaslyn’s eyes went wide. “But didn’t Mommy just call to say sorry? Didn’t she want to come back? Why isn’t she coming? Daddy, I miss her cooking. I want her to tuck me in.”

And more than anything, she wanted things to go back to how they used to be-Mom being the first one waiting outside school, taking her on little weekend trips, just the two of them.

Mom’s hugs used to feel so warm and safe. Not like Aunt Elowyn’s, where something always felt… off. Sometimes, she even hurt in places she didn’t understand.

Why?

Mom used to love her most of all. Now she barely even came around.

Jaslyn bit her lip and looked up at Jack, her eyes filled with tears.

Jack let his eyes fall shut, clearly drained. He slouched back in his seat and pressed his fingers to his forehead.

“She made a mistake and still won’t admit it. I’m not going to be the one to ask her to come back. If you can’t stand it, then go find her yourself.”

Jaslyn sniffled but suddenly straightened up, the sadness gone in a flash.

“No way. She’s the one who left me. I’m not giving in first.”

Behind the wheel, Howard thought silently. Great. You two just keep being stubborn.

In the days after the party, Elina found herself enjoying life on her own more than she expected.

Every once in a while, she’d see a mom walking with her kid and remember Jaslyn-so sweet, so clingy

back then.

On Thursday, after finishing an early shift at the hospital, Elina was just about to head home for a nap when her phone buzzed.
